hi there, i usually dont mess around with imagines blogs at all even if its for characters i really like but... i really like your stuff so far. would you be ok with maybe doing some transfem hong lu headcanons? its one of my favorite hcs for hong lu, but its okay if not
Oh my god I've been working on this for SO LONG because I wanted to make this perfect, but perfect is the enemy of good and it's Pride Month so I'm going to just get over myself! This is something I feel super strongly about myself as an enjoyer of the original novel. Did you know there's articles and papers examining the trans coding of Jia Baoyu? Here's one by Li Kotomi, a Taiwanese writer who is a trans woman herself!
Since this is an imagines blog I'm tossing in some x reader stuff, but it's mostly Hong Lu focused. Some inspiration from the novel for this one, as well as my vague ideas on how Hongyuan (specifically Daguanyuan) approaches gender (also novel inspired). Also, disclaimer: I am a GNC trans man, so I may not be familiar with any particulars about the transfeminine experience.
Though Jia Mu had been thoroughly consumed by the Anamnaworm, a part of Shi Miyin that still lived deep within her once idly wondered if her little Baoyu would've been happier as a commoner girl with two black eyes.
The City is a harsh place. Throughout the vast majority of its cold, sprawling alleyways, people simply do not care what your name and pronouns are as long as they themselves are fed and have a roof over their heads before the Sweepers come out. It stands to reason that inventing arbitrary gender laws about sticking to "what you were born as" (if such a thing is even always that clear cut) is a pastime of the ultra rich. So brings us to Daguanyuan.
One would think the Jade able to avoid these things. But, much like the rest of the choices stolen from her, Hong Lu did not get to choose her gender. People placed the expectation of manhood on her, and she responded in kind, reflecting their falsehoods in the mirror she made of her face. Jia Zheng and Lady Wang had their first legitimate son. Xue Baochai had wonderful husband. And so on and so forth.
When she was picked up by Limbus Company, she found it curious how...spacious the world felt under the name she gave Faust, even though it was something she thought of randomly. And the people around her were even more curious. They did not look at her strangely when she introduced herself with an "unusual" name, and some of them even gave "unusual" names of their own. ("Don" Quixote? "Outis"—"Nobody"? You can just do that...?)
As the journey went on, she would experience these odd sensations. Hong Lu would suddenly feel comfortable in her skin, at times. Being around people who didn't place such strict expectations on her seemed to do this. But the screams of that day and the joyous laughter behind her jade eye would bring her right back to where she belonged: floating, aimlessly, simply witnessing the things that passed her by. You noticed this once. That's how you figured out how stiff Hong Lu actually is most of the time...and that accidentally getting called "she" on the street made her look the most relaxed you've ever seen.
Following her turn, you assumed that relaxed posture would return tenfold. But while she wasn't nearly as stiff and quiet as before, it was clear she was struggling to learn how to be "herself", whatever that's supposed to mean after 20 years of being whatever people wanted her to be. So, remembering that "misgendering" incident, you decide to "accidentally" call her Miss Hong Lu.
Her face was priceless. She was still smiling, but her eyes were wide and not a word came out of her mouth. It took her a full minute to buffer before she finally unfroze to bring a hand to her chest. With a glimmer of curiosity in her black eye, she leaned in. "'Miss'?"
From then on, you'd keep making those little "mistakes". Some of the more emotionally attentive Sinners caught on to this, and before Hong Lu knew it, the whole bus was calling her things like a 'dear feminine companion' or a 'dingbat of a lass'. Even Vergilius reprimanded her with a "ma'am". For the first time ever, she truly felt as if she belonged in her own skin. Another weight crushing her chest lifted.
She came out to everyone eventually, which resulted in a lot of awkward "yeah, duhs" and Hong Lu asking how everyone figured it out with a confused tilt of the head. This is how she learned her real smiles aren't anywhere near as practiced as her default expression. They were, according to her assessment in the mirror, very unbecoming of Jia Baoyu.
...But she isn't Jia Baoyu now, is she?
As an aside, her presentation preferences didn't change much. Maybe she'll try a more elaborate ribbon in her hair from time to time, but she's come to develop that same sense of neutrality a lot of other folks in the City have. She finds it more validating to not play the aggressive gender games from Daguanyuan and just be loose with it.
One day, Sinclair mentioned that the gender balance in the bus was kind of...off, now? Not that it's really necessary but he was just thinking abou—
And then Don Quixote proudly stood up and said he would take Hong Lu's place. Everybody clapped. #Pride
In your search to find out what could be the reason for Hongyuan standing tall despite the powerful foes waiting outside its walls, you find a valuable clue that can help Hong Lu get better.
Chapter 1 of Jaded Glass; Shattered Heart, you can view the masterlist here.
₊✦Limbus Company | Various Hong Lu IDs & EGOs x Gn!Reader✦₊
Ever since the loss of Xichun, you swore you saw Hong Lu’s heart shatter into a million pieces.
It showed in the way he acted after you retrieved the golden bough, too. The faint light he regained in his eyes was now completely gone, the little smiles his lips would form into in the few moments of genuine happiness he experienced were now hollow smiles only meant to appease whoever he was talking to.
This wasn’t even getting into how doll-like he had become. He barely talked, not of his free will but in an act of obedience towards you and Dante.
It was like he had finally become the perfect little doll that Jia Mu and the xianren had wanted him to become.
Though it was horrible, there was one good thing that came out of this; that being Jia Huan destroying the screen the xianren used to watch the world through. Not to mention that with the death of Xichun and the loss of the anamnaworm given to the family hierarch, the fall of Hongyuan was inevitable. So you thought that seeing this place that caused him so much pain finally fall might at least provide Hong Lu some relief.
However, Hongyuan remained peaceful.
Saying that it was odd would be an understatement. So many forces from several different groups were waiting outside, barely being held back by Kong Qiu’s army as they sought to destroy H Corp and obtain its secrets during this moment of vulnerability. Kong Qiu was strong and you had no doubt that his army was as well, but with the lack of a family hierarch to control the heishou, Hongyuan’s fall was inevitable.
So how come there weren’t multiple armies in here right now, destroying everything within their sights?
“Dante’s asking if you're sure about this,” Faust relayed their words to you after Dante stopped ticking.
“I am,” you nodded. What else could you do in this situation, really? “With the state he's in… I hate to say it but Hong Lu will just get in your way, so please let me travel separately with him for the time being.”
Dante began ticking again, muttering about something with Faust. Their hesitance was understandable, but being forced into more work certainly wasn't going to help things either.
Not to mention that you needed to investigate why Hongyuan didn't fall when there was no family hierarch protecting the place. You'd love to do it with the rest of the sinners and Dante, but an emergency call prevented them from staying in Hongyuan any longer. If you split up, then you could find out what was wrong with Hong Lu's help.
Though, whether he'd help you survive if something were to happen was an entirely different issue.
“…Dante agrees to splitting up,” Faust finally replied, her gaze flitting back and forth between you and Hong Lu who was standing beside you with an empty smile.
“They do…” you let out a sigh of relief before smiling at Dante, who gave you a thumbs up in return. “Thank you.”
“Dante also told me to let you know that you can come to us for help if you run into trouble,” Faust added.
“I'll keep that in mind.”
With one last glance and a wave from Dante, the two left, leaving you alone with Hong Lu. You weren't sure how the others would take this sudden leave from both you and him, but you prayed that it wouldn't get in the way of their next task. It shouldn’t.
You turned towards Hong Lu, finding him staring ahead with that same empty smile from earlier. “Hong Lu?” You called out to him only to receive no response. The only thing he seemed to respond to were commands and requests anyway.
As if you didn't know how difficult this was going to be already…
“Can you help me find out what's going on in Hongyuan?”
...No response.
Right, you'd have to go about this a different way. Think… despite the threat of invasion, nothing happened so far— or at least nothing serious. If the family hierarch’s presence is what kept Hongyuan safe, then wasn't it natural to assume that there currently was one?
So where were you most likely to find the hypothetical hierarch… “Hong Lu, can you lead me to Daguanyuan’s throne room?”
“Yes,” he answered this time, his reply short and his voice monotone. Then, without waiting for you to respond, he began walking towards where the throne room was.
The walk there was silent, unlike what you were used to when you’d take long walks with Hong Lu in the past. People gave you — or rather, him — odd looks as you made your way towards the throne room. The moment you got there, everything finally fell into place.
Sitting atop the throne across the room was a man you caught glimpses of in Dante’s tablet during your journey to Daguanyuan; a man who shared an eerie similarity with Hong Lu with the only key difference being the bloodied bandage covering his jade eye.
He didn’t pay any heed to you and kept his eye trained on your Hong Lu.
“It’s you,” he sneered, his voice dripping with displeasure. “What brings you here?”
Hong Lu didn’t respond and merely kept on smiling as if nothing was wrong, which only put the Lord of Hongyuan into a fouler mood than he previously was in.
But how odd, The Lord seemed to know about your Hong Lu. You didn’t know too much about mirror worlds to say anything for sure but could this be connected to Hong Lu acting weird? Either way, you were beginning to regret your decision to dodge any attempt Yi Sang made to happily explain how the mirror worlds worked — you should apologize to him the next time you saw him — as well as wanting to travel separately from Dante and the sinners without looking into the situation properly with them first.
The Lord clicked his tongue after not getting an answer, “You’re not worth my time,” then his eye landed on you.
“You…?”
You flinched under his gave and instinctively hid behind Hong Lu who had no reaction to this development.
The Lord stared at you unblinking for another moment before shaking his head and placing his hand on his forehead as if the mere sight of you was enough to give him a headache.
From what little you gathered from Dante’s theories that they wrote down on paper to share with you, this identity wasn’t necessarily hostile like most other bad end identities — or, as they insisted, capstone identities — but he certainly wouldn’t be friendly either. Especially not when you took his hostile greeting towards Hong Lu into consideration.
What to do… You couldn’t just talk to him normally, could you? G Corp Manager Gregor and Spicebush Yi Sang would’ve given you the opportunity to talk things through first, but the Lord of Hongyuan… you couldn’t say for sure. It would’ve been nice if all of this happened after Dante had full and complete access to that identity but alas, you were on your own.
“Well?” The Lord’s voice interrupted your thoughts. You looked back at him from your spot behind Hong Lu and found his gaze focused on you once again. “Normally I’d kill uninvited guests such as yourself but since you seem to be special, I’ll allow you to have an audience with me.”
Normally? Then between your unexpected appearance and seeing a look a like of himself, he must’ve sensed something was off too. This was your chance.
You took a step forward, keeping your chin up high to give off the impression of confidence even though you hid behind Hong Lu just a second ago. “I’m… looking for answers.” You nodded back towards Hong Lu, “and a way to help him.”
The Lord’s eye narrowed. “Go on.”
Deep breaths, deep breaths. You needed to keep your calm if you wanted to do this. The Lord wouldn’t take you seriously or consider answering your questions if he saw you trembling in place and speaking with a voice far too quiet to be heard. How did Dante make this look so easy?
The best strategy might be being honest, at least for now.
“He—”
Actually, did you really want to tell that the Lord that Xichun, his little sister, was dead? No. No you did not. That would backfire horribly on you.
“Someone very, very important to him died,” you corrected yourself. The Lord frowned, his eye looking you up and down. “And he’s been very unresponsive ever since, only responding to demands and such…”
He stared at you for a moment before letting out a laugh in disbelief. “I see, you’re talking about my little sister.”
“Y- Yes.”
Curse your voice for faltering then and there.
He stood up from his throne, hand tightly gripping his weapon. “That’s impossible. I killed her with my own hands.”
He killed her…? No, that wasn’t right.
The Lord then pointed his guandao at Hong Lu, who was still standing still in the same spot with a hollow smile on his face. “I killed her because you failed to protect her.”
You saw Hong Lu flinch for the first time since he entered this unresponsive state. Was this working…? No way that getting Hong Lu back to normal would be this easy, right?
The Lord walked towards you — right at you — with a strange glint in his eyes. “Let’s see if you learned anything since then or if you’re still the same failure who’ll let others walk all over you.”
…Of course.
“Hong Lu—” his name slipped past your lips as you looked back to him only to see that same detestable expression still on him. Would he listen to you if you were to direct him in combat like how Dante did things? Was he even capable of fighting in the state that he was in?
“Hold on, he’s—!”
The Lord’s breath met yours as you turned around. You ducked instinctively, barely missing a swing of his weapon before taking a step back. The blade headed to Hong Lu who barely managed to block it with his own guandao, though he still didn’t seem to be all there.
“Can’t we do this some other time?” you pleaded, moving to hide behind Hong Lu. You hated putting him between you and the Lord like this but what other choice did you have when you had little to no combat experience?
You should’ve taken Heathcliff and Ryoshu’s offers back then… two more people you had to apologize to if you survived this.
“No,” the Lord curtly replied before knocking Hong Lu to the side with a single swing.
Guess you weren’t going to be apologizing to anyone. You really shouldn’t have decided to act on your own like this.
You closed your eyes as he lunged towards you, hoping that your end would come painlessly. However, the only thing you felt was the firm touch of fabric and a calloused hand on your shoulder pushing you against a chest.
Did Hong Lu…
“Unbelievable,” the Lord breathed out, voice full of disgust. “You really haven’t learned anything.”
You hesitantly open your eyes and disappointingly found yourself in the Lord’s arms instead of Hong Lu’s. You couldn’t see the expression that he was making but his tone alone was enough to tell you that he was less than pleased with how this situation turned out.
“Mao pack, take him away.”
Two figures clad in black — with one carrying with them a sense of familiarity — appeared right next to Hong Lu and disappeared with him before you could say anything.
The Lord let go of you and pulled away, looking at you with an expression slightly softer than when Hong Lu was around. “You still haven’t told me what answers you were searching for.”
…Really? Did he expect you to continue on talking with him when he attacked you and sent Hong Lu away to who knows where?
“Why should I continue discussing things with you when not only did you attack me, but also took my companion away!”
“I wouldn’t have hurt you,” he answered as his eye narrowed. “And he’ll be fine on his own. I’ll let him go once we’re done with our conversation.”
Might as well get this over with as soon as possible then, for Hong Lu’s sake. At least the Lord didn’t seem as intimidating after he held you against him. He still was Hong Lu deep down, however different he might seem.
“Fine. I first came here to find out why Hongyuan didn’t fall. We rushed to find Xichun and protect her so she could become the family hierarch and take control of the heishou packs, but we were too late and she ended up dying after we defeated Jia Mu and the xianren. So by the time we were done, there was no family hierarch but nothing bad happened to Hongyuan.”
“Xichun…” the Lord repeated the name as if the sound was foreign to him but didn’t linger on it. “I see. The reason Hongyuan didn’t fall is because I became the family hierarch.”
That… made sense, yeah.
“And your group… I suppose they’re the one with the clock head wearing red as the leader?”
“How did you— ah, nevermind.” You were wearing your work uniform, of course he’d guess that. You wanted to ask him how he knew about your group but considering the amount of packs the Lord had under his belt, getting information from all over Hongyuan must be as easy pie for him. “Yes, that’s my group.”
“My next question is…” you hesitated. This wouldn’t go as well as the previous one did, but oh well. “I want to help him get out of the trance he’s in, maybe you’d have a clue or two on it…?”
He snorted. “People like him have no hope of getting better. He couldn’t even protect you when I attacked you. You’re better off leaving him.”
“But giving up on him isn’t right either!” you argued. “Especially when he…”
Your mind returned back to the time you and the others first came to your home district. You had been so unlike yourself back then, frozen still by your anxieties and the guilt that was always trying to crawl its way up your back.
It was Hong Lu that helped you get through it all; letting you cling him when things got too hard, reassuring you and holding you whenever things were simply too much and having your back in general.
You couldn’t just abandon him after everything he did for you, even if a different version of him was the one who suggested the idea.
“I won’t abandon him.” You glared up at the Lord. “Just because you gave up on him doesn’t mean I have, too! Besides, I’m sure he’s still in there, somewhere.”
“Oh?”
“He flinched when you said that Xichun died because he failed to protect her, didn’t he? He reacted to you, so that must mean… maybe if we can find others like you…”
The Lord stared at you for a moment. You looked away. Trailing off like that probably didn’t help your case. He probably thought you were looking for any excuse you could find when all you wanted to do was find a way to help Hong Lu get better. What would you even do now?
You looked back at the Lord, only to find him smiling ever so slightly now.
“If that’s the case, then I suppose I might have a few clues.”
You beamed up at him. “R- Really?”
“I don’t know what exactly happened to him and I don’t care to find out either. However, if there are two pieces of me in the City, then don’t you think that there might be more pieces out there?”
Right… right! How did you not even consider this earlier?
The identity standing right in front of you, the Lord of Hongyuan, was barely a proper identity when you first caught glimpses of him and yet here he was; standing right in front of you and talking to you like any other ordinary person. This had to mean that other identities existed too, albeit spread throughout the City.
But what about egos? You recalled Dante very recently getting access to a waw tier one for Hong Lu, would that be around? How would it — or he — be referred by others?
What was the full name of that ego again… “Do you happen to know anything or anyone called trained… tainted blood… an abnorma— oh you wouldn’t know that term, a dragon or dragon person that’s very white and fleshy and bloody?”
“…I might,” the Lord answered, though you doubted if he understood what you were going for. “Why?”
“He might be one of the pieces you mentioned.”
“…I see. I’ll send the heishou to look into it and will inform you if they find something.”
“Thank you!” And that was pretty much it. You could find the other identities — and egos, if they existed — on your own by retracing the steps that you and the other sinners took. P Corp would likely be your first destination in that case, as Fanghunt Hong Lu was an identity that first showed up there and he was one of the weaker identities strength wise… not that your Hong Lu was much stronger at this rate but if the Lord came with you then strength wouldn’t be an issue at all.
However, there was one last question you wanted to ask. “Isn’t there anything you want in return?”
“Hm?”
“I appreciate all your help, but surely there must be something you want in exchange too, right?”
The Lord hummed in thought. “I suppose there is something, yes.”
…Maybe you should’ve kept quiet. Oops. “Which is…?”
He took your hand in his.
“Promise me that you won’t get yourself killed. Not for him, not for anyone.”
It occurred to you right in that moment that if Hong Lu were to die, you’d have to find a way to contact Dante and meet up with them so that they could revive him, however he’d mostly be fine. But what about you? You weren’t particularly worried before as there were twelve different people who could protect you, but now you were stuck with one who struggled to protect himself. Not to mention that you weren’t an official sinner, you couldn’t hear Dante’s voice nor could they rewind the time for you if something were to happen.
If you died, then that was it.
“I… can’t promise that but I can promise that I’ll do my best to not die.”
The Lord sighed, unimpressed by your hesitant promise. “Here.” Using his other hand, the Lord placed an item — something like a rope? — onto your palm before pulling away. “This is the leash for the heishou si branch. They can protect you when something goes wrong, but I’ll prepare the equipment for your journey ahead of time.”
He’d trust you with a leash for one of the heishou packs so easily, just like that? Wasn’t he worried that you might run off with this? Wait, if he was giving you this in the first place, then didn’t that mean— “Aren’t you coming with us?”
He didn’t answer as he had already left the throne room by the time you asked your question.
You’d ask it again later then, but for now, your top priority was to find Hong Lu.

The next update for TWST, Book 7.5 for TWST JP, will contain animated overblot scenes made by Cloverworks. TWST JP has released an important statement about the cutscenes…
They ask that NO ONE LEAK THE CONTENT before AUGUST 1 JST! As this content is very spoiler heavy. If you decide to post, while I and TWST highly encourage you do not post, just be warned that you will get bombarded with messages and harassment from the JP side. I understand that people want to see this content but I ask that people legit follow what TWST JP has asked of us and NOT share the clips!
If you see this content online BEFORE August 1st JST, please be civil and ask them to take the content down!
I understand people want to see it as they may not have access to TWST JP but they need to understand that posting this content before the date they give all clear is insensitive. You are contributing to the problem by basically saying the creators don’t matter, their voices don’t matter. Their rules don’t matter. That ideology needs to cease and people should understand that they are not always entitled to post whatever they want whenever they want, especially when it is laid out specifically in the game’s news on the app and website.
Do NOT contribute to the problem, if you do they may NEVER give this content again and you could ruin the experience for EVERYONE. It’s tempting, I get it, I understand fully, I will record them myself and schedule the video to release later on, specially on August 1st JP to share with you all.
Remember, posting this content before they say we may can prevent other impressive and exciting content from being released later on in the future, do not be a part of this problem, actually listen and don’t post this content anywhere. I
I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, Mohamad S., who is facing one of the most challenging times of his life. Mohamad is 37 years old and left his homeland in 2015 in search of a safer and better future. He’s a kind, hardworking man, and his small family has always been his greatest priority.
Living abroad, Mohamad has recently endured unimaginable loss and financial strain. Amidst the ongoing conflict in his homeland, his mother passed away, leaving behind his sister and her five young children—the last remaining members of his immediate family.
As the situation worsened, Mohamad managed to help his sister and her children escape to safety in Egypt, covering their immediate needs and securing a temporary refuge for them. Since then, he has been fully responsible for providing everything they need to survive during this transition.
In his efforts to support his family and cope with this devastating loss, Mohamad has found himself deeply in debt. To make matters even more difficult, he recently underwent knee surgery, which limits his ability to return to work for the foreseeable future. This has made it even harder for him to manage his financial responsibilities and the pressing need to provide his family with a stable future.
Mohamad is now working to bring his sister and her five children to join him in Belgium, where he hopes they can find stability and opportunity after all they’ve endured. This transition, however, requires significant resources that he is currently unable to meet alone.
For privacy reasons, we are not sharing Mohamad’s full name, as he has chosen to keep his identity discreet. While he initially refused the idea of asking for help, I couldn’t stand by and watch him struggle alone. I insisted on doing this for him because he deserves a chance to overcome these challenges.
Your contribution will help Mohamad repay the debt incurred during this difficult time, cover ongoing living expenses for his family, and assist with the costs involved in bringing them safely to Belgium.
Mohamad has been a good friend of mine for years, and I’ve always admired his resilience and generosity. Any support, no matter the size, will make an incredible difference in helping Mohamad and his family rebuild their lives after these painful experiences.
Thank you for reading his story and considering helping a man who has always done everything he can for his loved ones.

Every new thing I hear about this update makes me more concerned about how badly they are going to cook Pure Vanilla. My boyyyy he does not deserve this. I know the angst writers will be cooking though, and that's definitely worthy of excitement
