a lot of people dont care about insect biomass collapse bc when they hear we are losing 2.5% of the insect biomass per year they just imagine the cockroach and housefly population decreasing by that much. they dont realize those are among the only ones that will remain unbothered
you can make a little oasis right where you are, and it matters
every year of restoring native plants I see a great increase in the insect populations, and loads of new insects i never saw before (all of them harmless--the insects that are harmful or parasitic on humans are the main ones being unaffected by the decrease in insect populations)
(a large part of) the problem is Plant Sameness. we must restore plant diversity
This kind of bums me out and tbh I'm tired of posting bug photos when I know that these same bugs will become harder to come by in the future.
In Singapore, large parts of forests are going to be cleared for housing soon and they have endangered/ critically endangered plants and animals. The sad thing is that I don't think most people will care.
Sure, most people can say that it's a pity, but I think most will think it's a necessary evil for the economy. There are people who are very detached from the outside, spend most of their time in buildings and only think about nature when it inconveniences them.
Signing petitions and rallying against deforestation plans can only go so far if most people don't know what a forest is.
You ever hear that old chestnut about how most people neglect the part of the story of Icarus where he also had to avoid flying too low, lest the spray of the sea soak his feathers and cause him to fall and drown? You ever think about how different the world would be if Icarus died that way instead? If the idiom was to Fly To Close To The Sea? A warning against playing it far too safe, about not stretching your wings and soaring properly? You ever think about how Icarus died because he was happy?
Was feeling Emotions than was quickly hit by very different ones upon opening the comments

im fucking crying
Just because I applied to another separate store that's owned by the same parent company, I can't apply to their other store near me, even though they're separate stores, separate names, in separate cities? The fuck is that? And it's not like I'm submitted to all of the brands by sending one application. They have separate applications for each store name and my application only says that first store I applied to. But it literally will not let me apply to the other one because I've "already applied to [parent company brand]"

On this day, 22 July 1946, the Zionist Irgun militia bombed the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 people and wounding 46.
At the time, two thirds of the hotel was occupied by the headquarters of the British colonial administration of Palestine. The plan for the bombing was devised by Irgun leader Menachem Begin, who later became Prime Minister of Israel, and with the collaboration of the Haganah militia.
A warning was phoned in a few minutes beforehand, but not in time to evacuate the building. The Haganah had vetoed two previous plans, and was concerned that given enough time, the British could remove files Zionists believed they held at the building, which they intended to destroy. It turned out, however, that the files were never there.
Irgun and its successor political party, Herut, were described by prominent Jewish thinkers like Albert Einstein and Hannah Arendt as "terrorist, right-wing, chauvinist", "closely akin… to the Nazi and Fascist parties".
Irgun and Haganah later transformed into the bulk of the Israeli military, the IDF. Herut was succeeded by Likud, the party which has led governments in Israel many times since 1977.

So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:
Absolutely iconic.
I want to throw in that part of the context behind this meme was N.D. talking about how he sometimes gets hatemail for marrying a man as a former lesbian, and how many people seem to think he divorced his wife.
I have not managed to find anyone who thinks that in the wild, but it is so damn funny.
adhd paralysis sucks bcuz im just sitting there and my brain is like
