Went for a little stroll
As a society, we need to return to plant symbolism, but not the obscure and arbitrary stuff—a lot of plants' meanings were connected to their medicinal properties or other properties. More of that, and include the ecological roles and values too. More plant symbolism where plants "mean" things because they really do literally mean those things
Red poppies came to symbolize remembrance of fallen soldiers and hope for a peaceful future because they flourished in the fields after WW1 due to the disturbance caused by the bombings, which created the perfect environment for an early-successional-stage plant. Do you see what I'm saying

Wish this was me
just learned that magnolias are so old that they’re pollinated by beetles because they existed before bees
They existed *before beetles*
scuse if my info’s a lil off, my knowledge on living plant fossils is far from stellar even though I adore them.
Fossil evidence shows that Magnolias existed at least as far back as the Cretaceous period, the same time period that bees/wasps first came into the scene, and at a time where floral pollination was mostly ruled by other insects like beetles (research has shown that older plant clads like Cycads may have been using beetles for their pollination, and to a degree still depend on beetles depending on the species).
Ginkgos first appeared in the Triassic period- when their seed dispersers disappeared from the scene is not known as we don’t even know what they were to begin with. It could’ve been any time from then to the Ice Age for all we know (I’m leaning towards Ice Age cause if it’s the former… holy fuck they been holding on this world w/o help for a long time). While their wild range today is only a vague lil valley in China, the Ginkgos used to be a worldwide tree species.
To give a perspective for those who don’t know what those time periods mean;
Magnolias evolved near the start of the time period that’s called the final period for the dinosaurs (that makes it sound like they came into the world when the dinos kicked the bucket- but in reality it was still a good couple of million years).
Ginkgos on the other hand have been kicking around since the time period when dinosaurs were first evolving into the world. To further punctuate; Ginkgos have been on this world since when the fucking continents were all together as one singular super continent.
i need 2 nourish my body so when i die i can contribute maximum nutrients to the trees
I think that when you are thinking about planting roses, an important consoderation to keep in mind is that someday, you will die
Perhaps you love the meditative nature of caring for rose bushes but one day you will die, and no one will be able to manage the weirdly intense Gardening Regime that you set for everything you planted and your roses will become overgrown and dangerous and someone, perhaps, even, your beloved grandchild, will be obligated to take a pruning shear the size of their own fucking arm to a bunch of rose canes that are as big around as their own fucking wrist, PERHAPS, PERHAPS THESE THINGS MIGHT HAPPEN. JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND.
This is a call out post for my grandfather who I love and miss very much every day... Wish he was still here with us, to trim his fucking rose bushes

A young fruiting body of the fungus Pseudoinonotus dryadeus. This fungi is commonly associated with oak (Quercus) species of tree and is sometimes called the Eiffel tower fungus. It gets this common name from its habit of degrading the wood at the base of the tree, between the buttresses, in advanced stages leaving only the buttresses of the tree remaining, kinda looking like the Eiffel tower!
The liquid exudate it produces has multiple purposes, the main one that I find fascinating is when the woody substrate it is degrading contains too much moisture, it has the ability to draw it out and release it in the form of the exudates seen in the photo!

I wanted to see the plant from another POV but it’s literally the only photo publicly available right now. There is however, an anatomic drawing!
Congrats! It looks like an alien!!
