βThey think itβs the amount of detail, and that really isnβt it. Yes, a detail should be there and it should be carried far, but the pictureβs got to be bigger than that. Otherwise, it doesnβt hang together and it doesnβt give you the force of the thing. Itβs got to be abstracted through your vision, your mind. Itβs a process of going through detail in order eventually to obtain simplification and cutting out. And itβs a very fine line because you canβt overdo it, you canβt cartoon it. Itβs a subtle quality, very subtle. And with less sometimes to work with, you gain more.β
