She was lucky that a certain someone was still out, and to be frank, she forgot she even had her out still. She still got wet, but she was at least telekinetically fished out by an Extrasensory before the water had gotten to her thighs, though a surprised yelp still made it clear she was caught off-guard. Apparently, someone forgot their manners, and sheâd put that thought in the back of her mind⊠for later. The spike of anxiety she got from the little stunt was something thatâd settle on its own, though she knew itâd take at least a couple hours before it diminished completely.
Bottom of her dress now soaked, she wrung it out over the water, body wavering a little. Figures the brat had something in store for her, though she was expecting it more in the reward than the trip, though she shouldâve seen it coming. Frost-colored irises scanned the bottom of the pool, just to see if sheâd have to make a run to the PC box, or if she could just have her âsaviorâ fish it out. She heard a growl from the other side of the room, something that roughly translated to âI was damn right in sticking around as a bodyguard.â
All she could do to respond was laugh.
whew, that was close! but whereâs the prize? the lights come back on and you look down into the water, expecting to see something, but thereâs nothing visible. you know better than to go and inspect, expecting another sort of trap for someone stupid enough not to heed the first one.Â
what a lovely way for two friends (yes, really, just friends) to spend the day! relaxing by the pool in the autumn sun, sipping on pinap berry juice imported all the way from alola and flavored with sweet tsareena sap. and all of this was given to you without your even asking. for a bunch of racist homophobes, ursula and her family are really too kind!
as the two of you sit back, you hear a rustle nearby. is it the bushes? noâitâs shamusâs backpack! digging through the pack, you discover that someone has invisibly placed an envelope inside. opening it to read, you find the following riddle:
I lie where I would be most often forgot
There where you find me, I am and am not.
where would you like to go?
> BASEMENT
> GUEST ROOMS
> POOL CHANGING ROOMS
Shamus took a look at the riddle found in his bag and wasted no time in deciding an answer.Â
âWell, obviously it wants us to go to the basement! People are always losing stuff in their basement and itâs the perfect place to be forgotten.â
May, brimming with curiosity, leaned in to look at the riddle herself. Oh, yeah! She had heard about these going around. It sounded like fun!
But she took a bit more time to think. Well, âi am and am notâ is kind of weird. Does that mean weâre looking for something that we canât touch?
She was kind of stuck on how many things you could forget and not touch. People forgot themselves sometimes, but that seemed kind of weird for the options they had. And she could think of something you could lose, like time, but as far as she was concerned, you could lose time literally anywhere.
So, she looked to Shamus. He seemed pretty confident in his answer. And well, she mightâve gone with the changing rooms if he hadnât said anything, but since he did, and she didnât have the best reason to back up her idea anywayâŠ
âThatâs pretty smart, actually! You wanna go now?â
you head to the basement, expecting something dark and scary and spookyâŠbut instead what you get is pretty much another layer of the house. the lights are off, except for the nightlight plugged into an outlet on the wall, but itâs just so much brighter in tone than one would expect. lavish flooring, elaborate wallpaper, furniture fit for display in a tourist magazine to set the tone for a wonderful destination: if the derosiers thought any of this could possibly be creepy without added decor, they were sorely mistaken.
suddenly the lights come up, and you see another envelope floating in front of you. it opens by itself to reveal the riddle:
Youâve held me close and held me tight
I serve you, to your great delight
And though you may without me stand,
Iâve always come back to your hand.
I will follow you, and so
It does not matter where you go
Thus, neither riddle tells a lie
They speak of me, myself and I!
wait--what the heck--what object in the basement even followed people around, and in such a stalkerish manner?Â
the answer is obvious, and yet one would never guess. but you have a long, long time to figure it out.
Dear Arceus, Motonari would be proud. Certainly a more⊠creative way of learning from the text, butâthen again, maybe Hiroko just wasnât that familiar with the other ways people had applied it. After all, she was from Ransei. They tended to take a more literal approach to⊠well, the art of war.
She reshelves the book and figuresâto hell with it! As long as theyâre both right in front of her, it wasnât like she was wasting any time in checking both; it isnât as though sheâs terribly familiar with the contents of either. She grabs both Dao De Jing and The Book of Lord Shang and leafs through them in rapid succession in search of her next clue.
it all makes sense now. I speak of virtue, yet not of virtue--shang yang spoke of his own unique set of virtues, but not the confucian type of virtue that he was reacting against. I speak of fear, yet not of suffering--shang yang wrote that effective rulers caused their people to fear punishments, but not of the suffering that this had inflicted on his people. I speak of the law, yet I am not law--the book of lord shang was nothing if not obsessed with legalities, yet no actual laws were written within its pages, only philosophy. I speak of the Way, yet the Way I am far from--he had often mentioned the way of ruling, but his way was very different from the way of the daoists and confucians. and of course, since shang yang was obsessed with warfare, the gift found inside his book would aid with defeating oneâs enemies.
you have no idea that lila is the one who wrote that riddle, which leaves you with only one question.
How the hell is Ursula smart enough to come up with this?
Congratulations! Youâve survived the All Hell-er, All Hallowâs Faire! Final scores have been announced, prizes awarded, and now itâs time to unwind and head home-following the after party, of course.
As things are winding down, you spot a certain reporter thatâs been running around through this whole showcase. Sheâs no longer wearing her blazer, and seemsâŠtense, to say the least. Her Furfrou sticks very close to her. But when she spots you, her expression softens, and she begins to make her way over.
âBonjour, mon ami(e). Would you be willing to answer a few questions for my article?â
â
Rules:
Repost, do not reblog, with a link back to the template.
Tag your post with â#allhallows2k18finalinterviewâ so that everyone can see your answers.
To clear up some past confusion, please keep in mind that Jules is a writer for Lumiose Press, and not a television/Holocast reporter. This is especially important for this one because she means it when she wants privacy for this interview-thereâs no film crew or anything.
Though many of the questions are geared towards entrants, judges are also welcome to answer. You may change Julesâ wording accordingly (for example, âyour performance/your competitionâ to âthe performances/the competitorsâ).
If you want to know why Jules is directly avoiding asking about all the scandal please check this post. Itâs probably gonna feel a little awkward.
Youâre free to cut out questions if you want; this is just meant to be a fun thing.
â
âWell, that was quite the ride, wasnât it, mon ami(e)? How are you feeling right now?â
âIf this was your first showcase, how do you feel about the set up? Did you enjoy it? Are you going to do more? And if itâs not, how does it stack up to your previous ones?â
(For the winners) âCongratulations on placing! Do you have any ideas how youâre going to use your winnings?â
âWhat do you think were the highlights of your performances? We all need to give ourselves a pat on the back sometimes, right?â
âWhat about your competition? Which performances or performers stood out to you, and why? Did you make any new friend while you were here? Any rivals? Is there anyone you intend to keep in touch with?â
âWhatâs the most exciting thing thatâs happened to you during this competition? It can be directly related to the showcase, or something completely different.â
âWhat are your overall feelings about this competition?â
âWhat about moving foreword? Do you have any plans to compete in more contests or showcases in the near future? If not, what are you planning to do?â
âDid you take advantage of any of the amenities at the mansion? I know things have beenâŠhecticâŠespecially for performers, but did you get to enjoy anything like the garden or the library? The food? How did you decompress when you werenât practicing or on stage?â
âAny final words about this Trainerâs Showcase and your time here on the Derosierâs estate?â
â
(optional?) âThank you very much for taking some time to answer my questions, mon ami(e). This article should be out in the Press within the next few days, so keep an eye out. Now, if youâll please excuse meâŠI think I need to go get a drinkâŠâ

the stage is empty and the audience is abuzz. what is the 411? what has everybody been up to? what is the hot gossip? tell me everything. some of them canât wait for the contest to end, whereas others wish for just one more night, if only so they can see how the whole thing would blow up even further. in all the hubbub, the crowd seems to miss one minor detail: where has ursula gone?
the murmurs donât even fully quiet down when the lights dim and the music kicks up.
light purple spotlights shimmer as they spin about onstage. a dark void worthy of darkrai opens up in the center and the lights stop, seeming to be swallowed by the night shade-hex combo that makes a black hole in the center. with a flash of orange dazzling gleam, motes of confuse ray spin out of the hole as shadow sneak hands shoot out from the oozing mass that also releases infestation bugs that skitter into the aisles. each hand seems to use thunderbolt on the way up, like the electric bars of a cage--
and then ursula herself appears, rising out of the hole thanks to gengarâs psychic, completely dry in spite of being underwater because of the very same move. she bows as the audience applauds, and begins her speech.
âladies and gentlemen, iâm proud to announce that the all hallowsâ faire is now over!â a profound sigh of relief swept through the crowd, which ursula ignored. âwell, not really. i still have to announce the winners and everything. everybody, come on out!âÂ
one by one the contestants file onto the stage, in the order that they performed, to the audienceâs tumultuous applause. as each one takes their place, ursula hands them each a black key with a glowing orange pumpkin tip: each key is topped by a jack-o-lantern with a wicked grin.
âi am so happy you all could join with me here for the contest. your performances were truly exceptional, and uh--â she looks at her hand--âi couldnât have done any of this without you. please accept these custom all hallowsâ souvenir keys as proof of all the, uh, good memories you shared of this contest--you all are welcome back next year.â if there even would be a next year, she thought as she handed them out.
âanyway, letâs see what our first, second, third and honorable mention places will be taking home today!â she clapped her fingers and at once the prizes appeared on two screens flanking the stage. the one right above the stage remained empty, but it would not be for long.
âin addition to being able to access our wonderful castle here, second place will get to choose from some of our properties, and lucky first place gets to access it all--and more!â she clasps her hands together and smiles, all her previous nerves gone; thinking about her familyâs wealth never fails to cheer her up. as she describes each property, it flashes on the top screen.Â
âthereâs our castelia city penthouse, complete with two bedrooms, a piano, and a balcony with a view of the entire city. thereâs our villa in the geosenge countryside, with its own private forest. and finally, thereâs our beach house in undella bay, with its own private section of the abyssal ruins for you to explore! so, first place, youâll have free access to all these wonderful locations, plus a few more that i would really love to show you. and second place, just let me know where you want to go at any point after the performance is over--donât worry, the time you take to decide isnât going to cut into the time that you have to live in it!â
ânow, whoâs going to win these fabulous prizes?â
âLetâs find out!â
holographic keyholes light up above each contestantâs head as the lighting dims to a dramatic halloween-y green and the drumroll starts.Â
âthe first round scores!â
black holographic dots whizz into each of the souvenir keyholes, filling each one in proportion to the scores that the contestants received. the evil jack-o-lantern grins light up even brighter as the scores are received, as though they are drawing sustenance from the energy. at the same time, orange numbers appear above the keyholes to match the actual scores.
âthe second round scores!â
this time the dots are orange. the point numbers scroll as they increase like slots on a slot machine, ticking steadily upward as the new results come in.
âand now, the moment youâve all been waiting for, the thing that tips the scalesâŠthe votes!â
the final round of dots, this time yellow, begins to peter in. the numbers continue to increase, but at a slower pace to reflect the smaller volume of points earned from votes than from the first two rounds.
the highest number shines bright above one contestantâs head. the number above their keyhole flashes as the rest of the keyholes fade away. a brief fanfare plays as ursulaâs gengar invisibly uses dazzling gleam to surround them with a brilliant golden lightâŠ
Annalise is the winner!
on the top screen, there is now a list to reveal precisely who scored what:
âa warm and wonderful congratulations to all of our fabulous finalists, especially our top four contestants and our honorable mention. and especially to you, annalise--you worked suuuuuper hard for this reward, so you earned it! here, you pick.â she shows annalise two options: the all hallowsâ faire key, or the all hallowsâ faire ribbon--both of which would open doors to two very different opportunities, one in showcases and one in contests. what a relief, ursula thinks, that annalise so happened to win: maybe now sky might get off her back a little!Â
once annalise makes her choice, ursula turns around to address the crowd again.
ânow for a word from the honorable mention himself--fabien lafayette, who i am proud to call a servant of my household!â
grandly she hands the microphone to fabien, who speaks--but itâs not at all what they rehearsed together. instead, itâs something far more incriminating than even her parents could have imaginedâŠ
ââŠdidnât expect that reaction, but thatâs okay,â she says. itâs all she can do not to break down onstage as well. âhey, crew, could we, uhâŠâ
she doesnât even have to ask. the line gets drawn through fabienâs name, and in his place hirokoâs (misspelled) name is bolded. she is the new honorable mention, not THAT BITCH who just ran offstage!
âanywayâŠyeah. thatâs it. thatâs the contest,â she says, folding her hands over her microphone. âwell, i, uh, hope you all had fun, because i sure did. have a happy halloween and, umâŠsee you next year!â
the void from whence she came opens up, and she literally sinks through the floor in embarrassment.
her contest is a disaster, sky is about to catch her cheating and now her most trusted servant just messed up her grand finale.Â
why do all these bad things have to happen to her?
@dracaelum-faerie @kxkuko @ranseiuniter @stageonmay @sparklingemeraldidol @devonheir@gottamuseemall @3000yearmonarch @eevee-sohma @estrellawn @astralinity@lunarisvesperaregina @firewarriorshamus @grimastor @imbicilite@grimomens @facadxs@griseousperformer @lukissed @sayurismiles@lostguidings @nimbasah @ofreborngods@aeshmedai @coldbornthief @stygianmoondust @hikaup @eiriini @moonpulled @elitentomology @sangmer @wxrldxfpokemxn @hclianthi and with that twist ending, the contest has now FINISHED! right on the winter solstice, too, which is cool. all i have to add is the following administrative things:
the order of the placements by URL is as follows.
first place goes to @dracaelum-faerie!
second place goes to @stageonmay!
third place goes to @lunarisvesperaregina!
@imbicilite, who used to be honorable mention, dropped out.
honorable mention goes to @ranseiuniter!
@kxkukoÂ
@grimastorÂ
if you want to leave comments, you can fill out this feedback form. it is totally optional, but would be greatly appreciated!
if you would like me to continue your all hallowsâ trick-or-treat, please let me know, otherwise the thread will be dropped. everyone in the contest who has commented on this post has received a starter (except for @estrellawn GIRL I AM SO SORRY IF YOU WANT ME TO DO ONE FOR YOU I 100000% WILL) and will receive a prize.
if you would like to continue an all hallowsâ thread with me, feel free to do so. in addition, if there are threads with other people that you want to continue, you are free to do so as long as you want.
itâs been an absolute pleasure having you all on board with this competition--it just wouldnât be the same without your creativity, your passion and your dedication to rp and contest work. i hope everyone has a wonderful, happy holiday and i canât wait to see you back at my next event!
as iâm finishing up this contestâŠpresented here are the two options that the winner of the all hallowsâ faire gets to choose from: the faire key, which will count toward the three keys necessary to participate in a master class showcase in any region. or, the faire ribbon, which counts toward the five-ribbon total necessary to participate in a grand festival in any region as well!
note that on the faire key, the space between the two heart-shaped arboks is actually hollow: the face in the middle glows at night. in addition, the gengar face on the ribbon lights up at night, to parallel the action on the ribbon.
YO so if anyone else wants to get votes in, i sorta mentally extended the deadline to the end of tonight becauseâŠngl thereâs some ooc stuff i need to take care of before i finally end this contest, not to mention people had irl stuff like work and surgery that interfered with the 4:00 pm deadline. but no more after 11:59 PM tonight. thatâs final.

Freestyle scores from Professional Coordinator Silica Lynne entering as a guest judge! Participants mentioned: @dracaelum-faerie & @stageonmay ; @heartists @allhalllows Â
âWhat a wild and varied set! Itâll be such a hard choice to narrow these terrifying teams down when all these performances are filled with absolute cutiiiiiees!â
Despite the over the top, her gaze had been intense throughout the entirety of the shows. Thereâs a lot going on right now behind the scenes, things sheâd heard that was hard not to take into consideration. But she was, first and foremost, a performer. It was her job to maintain the hype of the stage for all who watched and not the drama beyond the curtain.
âWhatâs really important in performances with themes like these is to have flair without overdramatizing. Terror in a stage performance is no easy feat to claim I have to give my first vote to Annalise. Conceptually, the idea of sirens as more than just aqua eyecandy is always appealing nowadays. But literal maneaters? Canât help but love that~! Tales of the sea are a common thing no matter the year, and I think it takes something special to pull off such a haunting performance. Lovely visuals, and an enrapturing story. The atmosphere set chills down my spine, and the execution⊠was to die for.â
Boo all you want. Sheâs not taking it back.Â
âNext, my second vote is going to May! Terrifying wasnât particularly what came to mind when it came to this performance â though I admit, that scream made me jump â but there was a charm to it that I couldnât help but latch on to! It was a nice change of pace, even while it fit the theme. The flow of their moves and how they maneuvered as one was rather captivating, and you have to give props for the costumework. I have a lot of respect for someone who takes their place on the stage and owns it! And fireworks always make for a dazzling finale!â
âSo thatâs that! And to the rest of you, everyone did a stellar job! Nice work, kiddos!â
The contestants had formed a neat line across the stage, waiting patiently for the results. Every voter had come to deliver their opinions and praises, and Fabien could only stand with his head hung, eyes on the floor, as he usually did.
This time it wasnât out of respect and submission. This time, it was out of exhaustion and desperation. He hadnât been sleeping, and while heâd tried to make himself look presentable for the cameras the bags under his eyes were more pronounced than ever.Â
Fabien was promptly called up to speak. As Ursulaâs personal servant and a contestant representative, he was chosen to give a closing speech for the showcase. How could she still want that? After his complete and utter failure?Â
Yes, sheâd apologized, and maybe she no longer considered it that⊠but her apology only made him feel worse. It made him feel emptier, it didnât feel honest. When heâd gotten his perfect score, she later berated him and told him it was out of pity. This was probably just out of pity too. He didnât want that, it wasnât right.
He forced his feet to move forward, to join Ursula in the spotlight. Everything seemed to be passing in slow motion. It was nauseating, he felt like he was going to be sick.
He clenched the mic when handed it. He shouldnât be holding this. He shouldnât be walking up to her, shouldnât be taking the podium.
âI would like to say a few words, before we concludeâ I, would like to thank the Derosiers for hosting this showcase, as well as all of the voters and audience members for making this show possible. Iâ:
He found his hand quaking. In a moment like thisâ that was a sign he was losing control of his own impulses. He was trying to maintain control of himself, to not cause a scene.. .when her voice echoed through his head.
{â the whole premise of this was just complete nonsense. you? in control of something? â}
{â you? in control of something? â}
{â NONSENSE â}
why should he try to have control of anything, even his own actions? it was best to give it up. If his impulses claimed him before Ursulaâs control could, then so be it.
âIâm sorry everyone, but I need to say this as well. I thank everyone for their support and their votes, but Iâve realized my place in life and know that this isnât it. I shouldnât even have tried to make this it, or to try and prove Iâm somehow better or even deserving of more. The apology or revisions werenât ever needed. Keep my original score on record, thatâs the one I deserveâ Mademoiselle Ursula was right about me!âÂ
â..thatâs why I have to do this. Thats whyââ
âIâm hereby disqualifying myself from the AllHallowâs Faire.â
His voice was cracking, and he was shaking so much that the microphone generated shrill feedback. Hearing murmurs and shock from the crowd, Fabien begins to grow even more frantic. He needed to provide closure, so that this wouldnât be spoiled for the other contestants, and so Ursulaâ that horrifying, threatening presence behind him, wouldnât move to hurt him.
âPlease be happy for everyone else. Please donât be upsetâ this is just how it should be. Itâs for the best, I shouldnât be hereâ I shouldnât have stolen the honor. Iâm sorry, donât be madââ
âPlease donât be madâŠ.!!!â
With that, he ducked to hide his teary, broken expression and ran. He needed to run fastâ he was so terrified, terrified Ursula would hurt him! He bolted offstage, the tails of his coat sadly flowing behind him.
âOh! I guess I should cast my votes, huh?â All of the performances had beenâŠriveting, in their own ways ( though Katara was still concerned about the well-being of a couple of the performers ), but the truth was that it wasnât difficult for her to pick her favorites at all.Â
âLetâs see. I think my favorite performance was the one by Annalise. Traditionally, my people lived off the ocean, you know, so we have all kinds of tales about the sea, both good and bad. When your whole livelihood is based on the ocean, you learn to respect itâand fear it, to an extent. Being preyed upon by the ocean and her kin was one of the most frightening things I could think of as a kid.â And, well, sirens werenât exactly the ocean herself, but the mere specter of them was still enough to send shivers down her spine. âPlus, the visuals were really good! Not that Iâm an expert, or anything, but it was really prettyâŠand I liked that it told a story, too.â In fact, most of her favorite performances had told a story of some sort.Â
âMy next vote goes toâŠYuugetsu. The music was really fitting, and it helped set the atmosphere from the beginning. I mean, the music alone was kind of creepy, but she really utilized the themes of the music well. I also like it because itâs the sort of scary that anyone could experience. It just makes it extra creepy, you know? And I really liked the contrasting parts of the performance.â
âMy third vote goes to May. I actually didnât think her performance was particularly scaryâwell, aside from that part where she screamed. Or at least, it wasnât obviously scary, which was a nice change of pace? It still fit the theme, but because most people went for a more traditionally creepy or thrilling performance, it was kind of a breath of fresh air. And you could really tell she knew what she was doing as a performer, too. I mean, she practically owned the stage! And it was great seeing how much trust she has in her Pokemon, too.âÂ
âOh, but the other performances werenât bad. Itâs just, well, itâs hard for me to really enjoy certain acts knowing that the performer got hurt. I almost wanted to leave my chair a couple of times to see if there was anything I could do to helpâŠAnd one of the other acts, by Hiroko, I think? Kind of reminded me of my friend Suki, with the fan sequence. Not that thatâs a bad thing! It was just hard to be creeped out when I found myself looking for some of the moves she taught my brotherâŠâ
âA-Anyway, thatâs where my votes are going. But I think everyone did a wonderful jobâeveryone should be proud of themselves, and their Pokemon! I had a lot of fun watching these. Maybe Iâll have to start watching showcases more often.âÂ
What was this, a childrenâs rhyme? A bored, nonchalant yawn escaped her mouth as she made her way on stage, her never-faltering gait taking her up the stairs gracefully on nimble, ever-dancing feet. Something that never sat nor stood, but forever hung from above, no? But was the riddler smart enough to put the note on the most powerful part of the stage, or were they convinced by common opinion and left to wither in mediocrity and silence?
Well, sheâd find out sooner or later, but she had a feeling she already knew her answer. A fool who knew theyâre a fool is forever ahead and ever-so smarter than a fool who thought they werenât. Why? Not only is that knowledge in of itself, but it was also a prompt to better oneâs self. It was a simple, but powerful explanation to a question with more than one answer.
Of course, the world was full of fools, and Yuu couldnât count herself out of it quite yet. But at least she knew she was a fool, and thus, would better herself until she was a fool no longer. After this little entertaining game, sheâd show everyone that she knew she was a fool. A fool far more cunning and clever than the others, that was. A fool who at least knew her place in the world, and one who wanted to make a fool out of the host.
Funny how that worked. One might dare to me a bit cheeky and call it foolish.
suddenly the lights go down. youâre plunged into black.
and the doors to the water stage shoot open beneath your feet, faster than they ever would before a performance, faster than anyone would think they should.
The elite trainer thought carefully before making a decision. There were so many amazing performances that it would be hard to choose just a few, but he was prepared to vote fairly and without any biases.

My third vote goes to Fabi, who had a certain sense of grace⊠which I know may be a strange word to use, but still. Again, risk and danger gets love from me. I also loved the performance within a performance type feel- I felt like I was in a Cabernet type place, not a contest.â
