Since Minecraft changed the way light works, there's been an incredible amount of glitches close to sunrise. In fact, there's been an incredible amount of glitching overall, but it peaks as the sun does.
The glitch is: no matter how deep you are in the mines, no matter if you've holed yourself into bedrock and broken every torch and covered the earth above your head, you will see the sun. Not the whole sun, no, but if you stir, the sunrise will peep in shattered fragments between the edges where the blocks meet until you go still again. If you move you will see the sun. If you are moving, breathing, or living at all, you will see the sun.
It's distracting, sure. It's strange. But it's so wholly Minecraft I hope they never fix it. Creepers, Herobrine, the Farlands-- they all happened on accident. They still exist in-game, in art, or will lurk at the end of bug fixing logs forever. They're symbols of Minecraft itself, proof of the human-ness that lives in every line of code. They're part of the game about being human that so famously states:
"A fleck of light in the corner of the player's eye might be a star a million times as massive as the sun, boiling its planets to plasma in order to be visible for a moment to the player, and the universe said I love you because you are love."
Player, you. You. You are the thing the sun shines for, the thing the sun keeps safe, the thing the sun is relentless in its search for, tearing through the earth to shine on, reaching the darkest and deepest spaces of the world to find, and as long as you breathe, you, player, you, will see it. Regardless of whether it's intentional or inadvertent, the universe will always, always find a way to reach you. Why?
Because the Player was the universe, and the Player was love.
Wake up as the sun hits your eyes. Wake up as it streams through the windows or between the atoms and pixels of the earth itself.
Wake up, love.
Respect to Minecraft for introducing quality of life updates. The new baby animals look absolutely adorable and nametags being craftable would benefit players who spend a lot of time in early game. I've seen people criticise their new game-drop method of updates but honestly I think it's one of the best things they've done in a while. They can focus on smaller, less-demanding projects and try and work on optimising the game better, and I think there's a bright future ahead for these kinds of updates.

First time watching a joehills stream, and i'm.???
Is this normal here
I'm somewhat intimidated, too; he actually reads the chat messages. Not a lot of people are chatting, so there is no way I'd get dismissed. User alice5935 your ability to chat comfortably is admirable
WHAT.
manifesting the hermitcraft season where Cleo is thrown the job of the group intro and she just goes ok and starts doing the register like class is starting. I just think it'd be funny
I love it when cub does pranks on hermitcraft because it reminds me that he eagerly watches Minecraft updates with two goals in mind:
Check for fletching table functionality
Check for new methods to amusingly inconvenience or confuse his friends
fuckkkkkk hes so me
good morning doc
Once again goodtimeswithscar should legally be allowed to kill any and all ableists

has anyone else measured time by the Hermitcraft seasons?
i've been watching Hermitcraft since the sixth grade; for me it's been six continous years of keeping up with the hermits. after 2020, with covid completely skewing my perception of time, Hermitcraft was one of the only things that i really stayed caught on.
i watched Hermitcraft all throughout the pandemic, the end of junior high, and the beginning of high school... and i'm still watching it to this day, having graduated a few months ago. the funny thing to me is that i haven't really felt the passage of time until they end off a season. i don't really realize how long its actually been until the season finales come out, and it's always an, "oh shit, it's been that long?" kinda moment.
anyway, wow. it's been that long.
Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you
rewatching bdubs last life again. some notes on how bdubs and etho move because cubito movement is so fascinating to me.
etho tl;dr: big pacer, whimsical walking, and lots of head emoting.
does a lot of frolicking through places when he's going somewhere. not full-on loops around things but he doesnt mind weaving through the trees like an obstacle course or taking big arcs around fields (seemingly for fun).
moves back and forth when he talks. not mumbo-style wiggles but more like little figure eights or a "scoot, turn to look at you, scoot" type thing.
treats his POV as a way to emote or just focuses on the task at hand (from a meta perspective we could probably just say this is etho prioritizing gameplay over cinematics). he shakes his head and moves around a lot, but also sorts through chests or turns to look for mobs in the forest.
^ this could prolly be translated as gesturing with his hands a lot in fics??
also usually the one moving closer to the other players. he sneaks into people's personal space, especially when he's trying to freak out bdubs in particular (or just talk with him).
when he's nervous he puts his shield up, crouches, and sneaks backwards. most players do this somewhat but he does it OFTEN and over a LOT of things.
bdubs tl;dr: likes to be "tall", vaguely clumsy, and absolute committer to player character acting.
treats his POV as a camera or how an actual view would be irl. he looks between active participants in conversation and whips around to stare dramatically at someone.
collides a lot with the edges of walls and doors 😭
usually stands a block or so higher than the person he's talking to.
brute forces his way through the environment instead of dodging through it. breaks leaves and digs holes to get through dense forest. (he hits his head and smacks into things otherwise.)
reiterating this one because it happens A LOT: bdubs LOVES to be higher than the other person. he finds a block, jumps onto it and looks down at the other person. (he doesn't tend to crouch much, though.) most of his conversations in his first episode happen with him stood up on a crafting table or furnace.
emotes with his WHOLE body. for example, some people use their head to "bow", but he crouches, bows his head, and drops his voice down.
not afraid of eye contact with etho. he likes to turn to look at him and will even walk sideways to keep an eye on him. (why are you looking at another man so much?) no wonder etho was fighting for his life with his weeping angel task in SL.
^ some of his other conversations while he is the boogeyman happen with his crosshair in between etho and someone else (i assume so he can see both of them).
bigb and etho team up would be the most relaxed chilled-out bastard chaos-bringers on the server. etho would be like "ill be back in a bit, just gonna bring a warden up from the deep dark" and bigb will reply "cool, im gonna go convince grian that everyone is plotting against him and he needs to act now." then theyll meet up again in an hour and cloud gaze

Grian calling Joel's debut to Hermitcraft "probably the most impressive I've ever seen- it's so intricate, and massive, and- SHOW OFF- >:(" is so funny. Joel got a chance to play toys with the big guys and was like "fuck yes I have to show them my insane Minecrafting skills". Like he's baffling them by building insanely on the insane building server. I love him. and like there's no reason for allat either he's genuinely doing it for the love of the game. freak /positive
the term Average Joe implies the existence of the strange Abnormal Joe and this, i think, is the proper identification for joe hills of nashville tennessee
