PSA: Don't use Open Office
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better ā please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!
I use LibreOffice. It's wonderful.

I know someone posted the timeless main theme already, but my favorite musical moment in Goncharov is definitely the song that Katya sings in the cabaret just before the infamous poker scene with Sofia... and her reprisal of it just before she "dies" (EVEN THOUGH I STILL THINK EVERYTHING POINTS TO HER FAKING HER DEATH) just breaks my heart every time....
The music supervisors did their homework on this one too, because the lyrics are actually from a famous poem by Russian poet Alexander Blok, and they just fit the tone of the show SO well...
Night, street, lamp, drugstore,
A dull and meaningless light.
Go on and live another quarter century - nothing will change.
There's no way out.
You'll die, then start from the beginning;
It will repeat, just like before:
Night, icy ripples on a canal,
Drugstore, street, lamp.
UGH! THE THEMES! THE BLEAKNESS OF IT ALL! Anyway, if you need me I'll be hiding in my room and being absolutely normal about all this... and I may post more hard-to-find clips from the soundtrack to my music blog @traumaticmagic later
I've said a lot about blonde Percy but I will admit that it's a very beautiful thing that this series focused on finding yourself and accepting who you are refuses to make these kids, their actors, into people they're not. I wouldn't change a thing, I love them so much
i saw some fans saying that eddie is a "knockoff" or "copy" of billy hargrove and i just... are you kidding me?? billy could never. they don't even have anything in common. billy is an obnoxious, arrogant, abusive, racist bully. eddie is a melodramatic, unhinged, chaotic, nerdy, hectic but ultimately kind-hearted, brave, understanding and good guy. he freaking plays electric guitar in the upside down. billy wishes he could be even half as awesome as eddie.
So, basically Eddie is basically the Billy we wanted and wrote in ficā¦I see

HOW TO WRITE D.I.D / OSDD:
I have seen some incorrect or harmful ideas about DID and i wanted to give literally the quickest rundown i possibly can.
HOW IS DID FORMED?Ā
- Usually formed between the ages of 2-9 but some research suggests there is no true age that it stops forming.Ā
- There has to be repeated traumaĀ
- Some research also suggests that children with higher imagination and innate ability dissociate are more likely to develop DID as a trauma responseĀ

TIL that many historians believe Blackbeard and Stede were never really friends. At least not from Edās perspective. It true that the two did sail together for some time, however, after the two of them split ways he ransacked Stedeās ship and left him without supplies. It is thought that is was Blackbeardās plan all along and he never cared for Stede or respected his captain status. Not to mention, they were never co captains, instead Stede was Blackbeardās āguestā, but both of them knew that āguestā was just a fancy word for prisoner on his own ship. Itās thought that after Blackbeard abandoned him, Stede spent the rest of his (short) life trying to track him down and seek revenge.
Why You Should Absolutely Be Watching Our Flag Means Death
Look, I thought this was just going to be a silly little pirate sitcom that I could sit down and binge and move on with my life. But seriously, itās SO good!Ā
Now, if you havenāt heard of the show, let me start with the basics.Ā
This is Stede.Ā
He used to be a fancy foppish aristocrat.Ā
Then he left his wife and children to become a pirate.Ā
Well, a Gentleman Pirate.Ā
But heās not really cut out for it and things go south.Ā
Fast.Ā
Enter Blackbeard!
(pause to admire the wigmaker who crafted his glorious beardā¦. and weāre back)
Blackbeard has heard all about Stede and, quite frankly, heās fascinated. What the hell is a guy like this doing on a pirate ship?Ā
But the thing is, Blackbeard has been in a bit of a rut himself, and heās ready to try something new, so they work out a bit of a deal.Ā
Ed will teach Stede how to be a better pirate
And Stede will teach Blackbeard how to be a gentleman.
Now, I know what youāre probably thinking.Ā
Gee, this sounds like a silly little pirate show. Maybe Iāll get around to it eventually.Ā
Or maybe youāve watched the first couple episodes and thought,Ā āEh, itās alright. Kind of funny, but Iāve got limited time here and Iāve got a lot of other stuff to watch.ā
But the thing is, this is SO much more than just a silly pirate show. It has hands down the best acting I have ever seen from Taika Watiti. He and Rhys play off each other with the silliness very well, but they also dive into some deep emotional stuff that is just phenomenal.Ā
Oh, and did I mention that this wasnāt a comedy? Itās actually a Rom-Com between Stede and Blackbeard.Ā
And no, itās not subtext. Itās very much text.Ā
Like⦠Literally. The showās writer/creator has spent the last 3 weeks in every interview ever being like,Ā āHey, did you know that gay pirate marriage is a thing that existed? In actual history? Like they had a word for it and everything. Have you heard about this? If not, you should definitely hear about this, because this is a thing that 100% exists and is absolutely historical and you should all definitely know about for no particular reason.ā
Anyway, I wonāt spoil anything specific from the episodes because itās all so wonderfully done, but⦠yeah. The creator ships it hard and he is fucking delivering with every new episode.Ā
And thatās not even getting into any of the wonderful side stories with the crew!Ā
There are multiple queer couples/romances there. Two of the characters create the first ever pyramid scheme. Thereās a non-binary character with a amazing backstory and side quest. Thereās roommate shenanigans, and⦠well, just all types of shenanigans reallyā¦Ā Ā
The point is, this is seriously an amazing show and I highly highly encourage anyone who is not already on board to join in with the fun.Ā
