I'm Very Tired

This is the moment we hear Clu 1 speak for the first time without the filter when conversing with Flynn. His voice here is also slightly different from Flynn's. It's a touch higher than Flynn's, and his pattern of speech is formal throughout the mission. His formal speech only breaks during special or extreme circumstances. For instance, when Flynn was encouraging Clu, his formal speech drops, and he lets out this invigorated line:

In another moment, when the MCP is interrogating and torturing Clu, he drops formality to mock and disrespect the MCP's authority, allthewhile protecting his User's name.

In the film, we see Clu 1 drinking from a green glowing container.

Given the color of the drink, all signs point to it being refined energy, as it is unlike the energy we see from its unrefined source. It's hinted that this form of refined energy is equivalent to coffee, as seen in the script.

From the novel, it appears that during this mission, Clu is low on energy, given how his circuits glow brighter after he drinks the energy. This drink is a needed pick-me-up to continue the mission(as also hinted in the script), although he drinks it conservatively.

Given how deep in the system Clu is and how far away he is from a populous area, Clu should be able to easily acquire energy from unrefined pools without drawing attention. However, as revealed further in the novel(and supported in the film), the MCP has massively drained energy throughout the system for various reasons.

Finding unrefined pools or acquiring refined energy in a populous area will be hard, and Clu is at risk of failure if he can't perform his mission. The fact that Clu has the refined energy drink tells us that he most likely risked exposure and his mission to go to a populous area (which has a slightly higher chance of finding energy) and acquired refined energy. Or, perhaps, there are other scenarios in which Clu got the refined energy drink. Nonetheless, with such low odds of getting energy, Clu's success in acquiring it is an achievement. With the refined energy drink at his disposal, he continues with his mission. Given how far out he is and with little other energy sources around, he conserves the energy he consumes, just enough to continue his mission for Flynn. All these actions and decisions by Clu further support his dogged and relentless personality.

On a side note, Clu drinking this refined energy is a direct parallel to Flynn, as on the other side of the screen, he is seen with cups of coffee around him, even sipping on one.
