In 2004, we were doing respite care for a sweet Ugandan-Anglo baby named Ayonnah. We were in the process of adoption - but the state gave her to another family. She & Connor here are 6mo apart. I was the only dad she knew until 18mos. Our lives could have been so different. We had Fiona a few years later, who I adore. It still hurts that it fell through, and we don't know how she is doing. We just have to hope and trust that she's loved and will be okay. Huge respect for adoptive parents. It's a hard road.

Canon’s new EOS M is a small package even with the longest zoom lens available for the system, the 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3.

These look gorgeous. I while back I rented a Panasonic GH4 mirrorless DSLR, and it was impressive (but overall, of mixed value for my needs). It looks like Canon is sort of taking halting, halfway steps into the mirrorless world; the viewfinder is very much tacked-on (and executed poorly, with an inferior screen), and there's only a handful of slow lenses available at launch. One of the huge advantages of the GH4 is its huge lens selection and adapters that open up the whole lens universe.

Canon has often been accused of being afraid to add truly useful video features (such as balanced audio out, uncompressed HDMI out, etc.) - to avoid cannibalizing its own video products. This and other factors (like competing divisions within the company) prevent Canon from making great products that people actually want: leading-edge DSLRs that both still photographers and video pros can rely on.

Today, the HealthSparq product, UX, research, and front-end teams gathered at McMenamin's Kennedy School for a day of planning and problem-solving. We had a relaxing, yet invigorating time.

Perhaps it's just the nature of business, or human nature itself, that drives us to try to solve problems on our own. It's hard to ask for help, to admit that we don't know the answer.

Days like this are a great reminder that we don't know it all - but that we don't have to. It's frankly a great relief to be reminded that we're surrounded by really smart, hard-working people with incredibly varied backgrounds, expertise, and problem-solving skills.
