I dont understand why people get so pissy about JK Rowling saying Dumbledore was gay but it not being mentioned in the books. Like.. It’s a childs/young adult book???? Most people read it in elementary school. Like. Maybe this is crazy but putting “and grindelwald fucked dumbledore” in the book would be fucked up. They dont discuss sex in the books and thats good!! And relationships between teachers is rarely a thing. When it is it’s light. The only sexual things in the books are kissing and pg things like why the fuck are yall complaining about a kids book not having sex in it

you can say someone is gay without talking about sex you know…… like how they announce that snape had a crush on lily, she could’ve said something about dumbledore liking a guy….. if she really cared, she would’ve found a way to work it into the story (the same way she did with snape and lily, james and lily, tonks and remus, and all that).

people are just saying she’s not allowed to have brownie points for representation if all she did was announce it after it got popular because she’s just trying to capitalize on a different demographic without actually putting the work in

Just to be fair, afaik jkr made dean thomas explicitly black and added a lot of his life story into the books but the editor cut it out cause it’s “too long and irrelevant”. Rumour has it he did it with a bunch of other infos she later released but feel free to correct me if i’m wrong. For the dean part, there was footage on her old website that kinda proved it was im the rough draft if i remember it correctly.

Not trying to portray jkr like a saint, i love the books and she sure as hell isn’t flawless but… somehow my dash is turning into a witch hunt and even tho i like my puns intended, i’d like for people to consider that maybe she tried to add certain things but got censored by her editor? I mean she published the books as j.k. rowling cause they told her the books sell better if people think they were written by a dude. Going full length with diversity and open homosexuality would’ve been a huge hot take for her?

I mean.. Back then being gay wasn’t so wildly accepted like our current era (and thank God it’s accepted now). Imagine these people that haven’t accepted being gay seeing one of the main characters, a grandfather figure of sorts, being gay.

Like the last person said, JK R. isn’t a saint. No one is but she had fair reasons not to. The entire series could’ve gone down hill, she could’ve gotten death threats, who knows. If it were in this day and again, maybe she would’ve written it in but back then, there was no chance.
