Zutara shippers following me bc of my taang post and kataang shippers following me bc of my kataang post. . . I’m so fucking scared
Are there any specific videos you recommend for someone who wants to learn how to draw?
I honestly don’t really recommend any videos at all. At least not the kind I’m guessing you’re asking about. I can’t think of any videos that have helped me beyond some reels that showed how some of procreate’s hidden advanced tools work.. The majority of art tutorials online are repeating stuff by the masters but said through a telephone game of hundreds of people. I’ve yet to find one that didn’t feel contrived or is showing a very individualized stylistic technique that wouldn’t work for everyone
As an example for why I don’t like video tutorials: I recently watched a color theory tutorial on youtube because it had a kinda weird thumbnail, and it turns out that the artist had a very intense vendetta against the color green. So the whole video felt like a waste of time because I can’t trust a color theory lesson from someone who 1) hates and tries to avoid an entire color 2) relies on the curve tool and adjusting until it “looks right” which is not a good way to learn colors. I could clock that because I’ve been drawing for a long time but the majority of the comments from beginner-intermediate artists took it as gospel, unfortunately. So I heavily caution stuff like that..
If you learn best from video/audio, here’s some video lectures that may bore you to death as soon as you see the time stamps but hey it’s worth it if you’re dedicated. Should note that you should copy everything, not just idly watch it
Some good books are Anatomy for Sculptors and Color and Light/other books by James Gurney. Here are some free PDFs for Andrew Loomis (best for beginners is “fun with a pencil”). Copy the drawings, not just idly read it. Visual art is an extremely practice-intensive field
Something that helped me that I don’t often see get mentioned is being able to do formal analysis, which is actually an art history thing, but helps you be able to understand various artistic jargon and helps with the ability to analyze other people’s works
But here’s an alternate “how aucatgirl learned to draw, very slowly but with minimal burnout and having a ton of fun with it”

was thinking about how aang is constantly thrown off by how much katara wants to touch him in book 1, and how this could mean it’s a cultural thing not a personal thing but also both
he doesn’t start hugging her back till the end of book 1 and even in book 2 he’s still thrown off by her cheek kisses. every time she initiates a new type of physical interaction, he has a confused or surprised reaction. the one time he initiates a hug is in the serpent’s pass after he initially rejected katara’s hug from earlier. in book 3, he initiates more physical interactions but it still doesn’t add up to the amount of times katara has in total. outside of katara, the only other time i can think of him reaching out to to touch someone is toph when he held her hand because she was feeling vulnerable.
even when i think of the flashbacks, i don’t really recall him getting a hug from gyatso or anyone. obviously the circumstances in the flashbacks are a bit tense but in general, the air nomads don’t seem to be that big on physical affection among friends or even pupils and teachers. gyatso gives him a pat on the head and that seems to be pretty much it when it comes to physical contact. the only being he hugs freely and consistently is appa 😭
anyway it’s just interesting to me to think of aang coming from a community of free-spirited monks and nuns who were not keen on too much touching and affection, being with katara, who comes from a culture or at least a family that hug and embrace each other whenever they feel like it. katara gets a hug from gran-gran, she hugs sokka’s annoying ass sometimes and he gives her a kiss on the cheek when he’s feeling particularly affectionate even if she gets the ick. plus, the water tribe is the only culture where the official greeting between people meeting for the first time includes physical contact.
individually, katara initiates platonic physical interactions with several characters to suggest that this is also just a part of her personality even if aang is definitely the one she likes to be affectionate with the most, let’s be clear!
anyway this is me once again cornplating about a certain monk and his physically affectionate girlfriend who’s also his girl best friend that likes to hug him, touch his face, kiss his cheek, etc.

ZUKAANG ZUKAANG ZUKAANG I LOVE ZUKAANG ZUKAANG IS THE BEST ATLA SHIP
if only Gyatso had run away with Aang
To anyone who thinks Aang choosing Katara over the avatar state was bad writing: in a world where spirits are real and the universe can show people the past & future, I think Aang seeing the vision of Katara being locked in the Crystal Catacombs was the universe telling him it wanted him to save her and choose love over power. And when he ultimately chose to let go of Katara because he thought it was the only way, he was immediately punished. Aang was always destined to go on this journey.
taang is such an elite fucking ship. i'm just remembering the moment in "The Chase" when everyone was at each other's throats, toph didn't give a fuck until Aang sided against her (tbf only side aang was on was appa's lmfao). she was trading barbs with katara rapid fire but as soon as aang got curt with her she literally paused bc she was so hurt and then LEFT. she left the group. because aang was the only one who mattered at that point. he was the one she left her parents for, if he was annoyed with her, then she truly wasn't welcome. That's how much his opinion mattered to her.
Aang is Toph's first and most precious friend. 🥺🥺🥺

o(≧口≦)o MY FELLOW MIKAMUKAI-ERS PLEASE COME LOOK AT THE FRUITS OF MY EFFORTS!!! THIS IS OF COURSE SET RIGHT AFTER THE CHAPTER 80 WHICH CHANGED MY LIFE....
Collecting bald baddies is my hobby nowadays. Reblog to slap his bald head
Benson Boone sounds like the name of a guy in a folk song who gets gunned down for adultery and thrown in a river
A cold mist blew through the streets of the town the night they gunned young Benson down. He'd laid with a woman who wasn't his wife and her husband decided he'd pay with his life. By the dark of the night and the light of the moon, into the river went poor Benson Boone.
The pearl-clutching half of the jjk fanbase are so funny to me cuz like... you got Suguru, who's putting the concentrated wretchedness of humanity (large, invasive) into his actual mouth and choking it down. Then you got yuta, who makes out with a giant cockroach. And Yuji, whose mother is a man possessing a dead woman's body. Rape allegory, monsterfucking, mpreg, this show is fuckin. Sexy. And not in a jiggly boobs way (though it has that too, hi choso). It's got subtlety. Creativity. For sophisticated perverts (like me). It draws on niche kinks that toe the line between eroticism and horror. But you've got kids out here like omg student/teacher?? sweetheart maybe you should go watch the marvel movies or something. This one's lost on you.
Just had a really interesting convo with a friend who's from a large online community where a significant number of the people creating and sharing transgressive content like shota are ACTUALLY endorsing irl abuse. While this conversation didn't change my stance on censorship at all, it reframed for me some of the push for censorship. I'm lucky to be more accustomed to queer and afab spaces where consent is foundational, and transgressive content generally doesn't endorse real harm. I can see why people would feel uncomfortable on the same side of the argument as these creepy guys. I can also see why censorship would seem like an effective immediately harm-reduction measure. It's good to be able to re-frame an anti-censorship argument for people who are in good faith looking for real solutions to real harm being done, and not just reactive moral panic. So here's some bullet points.
Censorship won't teach people consent. This isn't a problem of content that normalizes rape online. The problem is that rape is already normalized. The fact that there are predominantly male groups who feel entitled to sexual gratification is an issue on a massive social scale. Prevent them from expressing one version of this entitlement in online spaces and you will martyr their "free speech" cause without teaching them anything. If they can't enable each other online, they'll still keep doing it in locker rooms and ballrooms. They'll find other, less traceable ways to do harm. We can't stop these guys from doing harm until we can ingrain consent, deprogram entitlement, and convince them that other people deserve rights and dignity too. A faster solution is to give their intended victims more tools to protect themselves. Not paternalistic sheltering, but knowledge and bodily autonomy. These are much harder solutions than censorship, and they'd take a while. People might still think cutting off these predators' content will mitigate immediate harm while we work on the long-term problems. BUT!
Censorship will cause more harm than it prevents. You can't censor these guys without censoring everybody. Recently a woman in Australia writing age play--a fictional depiction of adults performing consensual sex--got criminally sentenced. It's a well-studied phenomenon that the fantasies of women tend to be pretty transgressive. That doesn't mean they endorse rape. Women and queer people are finding space in communities to explore their fantasies safely in ways that don't endorse harm. Actually in many ways, these spaces are critical for harm reduction. Tagging specific types of abuse as warnings is showing young readers to identify those harms as harms, for instance, even if it's presented as fantasy. A warning, or even just the acceptance of a trope as 'dark', reaffirms it as transgressive instead of normalizing it. Acceptance of transgressive fantasy empowers vulnerable people with knowledge and control of their own sexual experience, which makes it harder for predators to present themselves as sexual authorities. Penalize depictions of transgressive sex and a lot of innocent women and queer people who are actually reducing harm are going to take the fall. Meanwhile it'll clog up legal resources that could be used to stop actual predators. And, of course, once we allow governing bodies to censor content based on moral grounds, all they have to do is get that line moved to wherever they see fit. Queer content is always one of the first things at risk.
Censorship may feel like a good stopgap solution to people who are seeing creeps abuse our rights to cause harm, but it won't stop them, the real problem isn't even touched, women's and queer sexuality gets demonized again, people doing harm reduction get penalized, all our rights are compromised, and a dangerous precedence is set for further censorship. In the end it's not a solution at all.

the longer I sit with obsession the more empathy I start to feel for entity!nikki. this creature that was created solely to love one person with this all-encompassing intensity that needed to be stronger than anything anyone felt in the entire world. entity!nikki whose entire world was just one single focal point; she'd do anything for bear to love her. she didn't know anything when she came into existence, but she was willing to do anything to get this man to fall for her.
it must have been equally terrifying for her as it was for the real nikki to have someone else fight for control over what she perceived as her body. the scene where she's sobbing in the corner, terrified of her dreams is now more sad than terrifying to me. real nikki, who has just been raped by her once best friend hurting so badly that it seeps into entity!nikki's nightmares. entity!nikki who doesn't understand why the thing she wanted so badly is causing her so much pain. why she can't bring herself to lie in bed next to the man who is the center of her world.
and the worst part is bear doesn't even seem to like her. she's trying so so hard; she made a lovely memorial for his dead cat, she waited for him to come home all day without moving an inch, she made sure to be the most doting girlfriend at the party, and he's not pleased by any of it. he seems disturbed and angry and scared and she has no idea what to do to make it better. to make it worse, he keeps asking her to behave like the original nikki but he was the one who wished for her!! she can't be like nikki because nikki was simply not capable of loving bear even a fraction of how much she does!
she can't seem to reconcile it; he wanted her so badly he conjured her into reality and now he doesn't want her anymore. she doesn't know what to do. she tries everything. she obsesses over him, she threatens to hurt herself, she gets rid of that bitch sarah who keeps distracting him and trying to steal him away, and then dresses in her clothes for good measure and he still doesn't want her.
and then finally in a fit of desperation, she makes the wish and for one beautiful moment its all perfect. he's finally looking at her the way she looks at him. and then he's dead and she's lost everything.
her entire existence, from the moment of her conception to her death was painful, and confusing, and so very sad.
"Ugh Aang is so boring"
"Anyway i'm giving my favs his avatar powers, his charming personality, his storyline and girlfriend too!"
