The two made a formidable pair— clad in the darkest shades of green, they were the shadowy reflection of their patron house. Zehra twined her arm through Aster’s, a Kaplan on foreign soil did not hold the same weight that she would in her own circle, but he had been a friend of hers since her first days in Thiudreiks and at his side they had become a two-headed beast that rivalled the runespoor that haunted the entrance hall. Her lips bent like wire and she did not shudder under the assessing gazes that flicked their way. House Slytherin was accused of a great many things within Aurelius, but being shabby was certainly not one of them. “Should we start with a drink, or should we make rounds?” Her tone hovered between amusement and boredom, as though all of this posturing was beneath them. “I don’t want to miss the band, but I don’t want to attempt it sober either.“
Right on cue, wandering eyes pause to focus on them the moment the pair enter the great hall. A vision in black and green, but he’s sure she’s the reason for it and he can’t help the way his body tenses against her lithe frame. He drops her arm on instinct and he swears he hears his mother's voice as his hand moves to the small of her back as his promise echoes through his thoughts. She’s warmth against the palm of his hand, flesh on flesh as he pulls her closer to him defensively, though he has no real reason for it. “You start with that drink and you won’t make it to see the band.” He chuckles, his mouth pressing a kiss against her temple as the pair move inward and the crowd parts for them. “I’m not exactly sure what’s in that punch but something tells me it’s more potent than Blaise’s homemade brew of last Christmas.” There was a shiver that passed through him at the mention of the concoction, the aftershock still felt nearly a year later and he was in no hurry to relive that morning after. “What is it the muggles say? Something about not wanting to be the one to hold your hair back at the end of the night?”
