Did Tumblr get word that Félix's apology canonically happened off screen or do I have to be the one to do it again.
I'm going to milk the shit out of that quote. It's funny how his apology is now relegated to the same camp as Alya's apology and Audrey and André's divorce: Off-screen and never worth touching on again. Why does he do this? What does he gain? Does this make you feel smart, Tommy?
He is apparently unable write any sort of satisfying payoff to a narrative arc, so he just skips it. I mean, considering the attempted payoffs we get, maybe this is for the best.
Felix: I did what I had to.
Marinette:ah yes, clearly. I should have known you were in danger. It's my fault. I'm so sorry. Everything you did was justified.
Kagami:Yes, it is as I said, he just does not know how to communicate.
Felix:I'm glad we got that sorted. Now, I need to go make out with my cool azn sentigirlfriend.
Adrien:*coming from the mansion* Hey, anyone know where the Mountain Dew is?
(end scene)
Fandom: Did Félix just... apologize? Astruc: You know, it was really off-screen.

Unfortunately it seems like Thomas is of the mind that lying to Adrien is a good thing, even if the people who could easily tell him the truth would have no way to know these adverse consequences (i.e. Chat Blanc). I don't want to spam your asks with what people are saying but this is legitimately so bad Anna 😭😭😭😭 FUUUUCK
oh things have never been bleaker. I mean at this point ive been assuming that there will be some cop-out memory loss type resolution to the current arc, but the concept that like. thomas thinks the lie is genuinely warranted at all (especially from an adult like amelie) is just. auauaghh if it actually ends with adrien affirming that he wishes he didn't know and erasing his own memory. or even worse if he just never finds out. oh adrien we need to escape the narrative Now

IT WOULD BE SO GOOD IF I DIDNT HATE IT SO MUCH!!!
Do you think the argument that Marinette keeping certain stuff related to the miraculous a secret from Chat when she wasn't the Guardian because it wasn't her secrets to tell was ever valid? Or do you always thought the logic was flawed even before her becoming the Guardian basically made the logic even more flawed?
"Wasn't her secret to tell" is a reason that applies to personal stuff. Stuff where the main concern is "who does the one with the secret wants to know" rather than "who needs to know this information and who can't be allowed to know".
Chat Noir needs to know that information, full stop. A lot of it is stuff that's important for him to fulfill the role that was entrusted on him.
On a purely practical level, him not knowing there's a guardian means he has no one to turn to if he's in danger. Him not being allowed to choose holders means he can't get backup if he needs. Him not knowing the potions means he's dependent on others for supplying them and may not have an important one when he needs it. Hell, by s4 he wasn't even told everything the miraculous are capable of considering he didn't know what the power of the pig was.
But more than that, he's entitled to that information. He puts his life on the line every day (and outright died a few times) to clean up Fu's mess. Fu doesn't have the right to deny that information to him.
The worst part is that we can't even say for sure that it was Fu who demanded Marinette's secrecy rather than Marinette deciding on her own that this is how it should be. We never see that conversation between them, and from the conversation we do see in Syren, Marinette seems to wholeheartedly agree with the secrecy (which is a conclusion her future actions support).
Like, when Chat Noir asks her about the secrets her response is that "it's not exactly easy for [her] either". And when she brings it up to Fu all she says is "Cat Noir is asking more and more questions. He's tired of being left in the dark." She doesn't advocate for him or even seem to think he has a right to know those things. The thing she seems upset about is Chat Noir confronting her about the secrets rather than any issue she has with keeping the secrets themselves.
And we can reasonably assume that she never advocated for him off screen either. The second she says Chat should be told shit, Fu folds and agrees despite literally nothing having changed to make it the right time to "put the noodles in the boiling water". If it was that easy to get Fu to agree, that can only mean she never tried before.
"It wasn't her secret to tell" doesn't hold up as either a good justification for Marinette's actions or even as a correct explanation for her motivation. It seems more of an excuse to dismiss Marinette's agency in the entire thing.
(Although even if it was right and Fu did ask Marinette to keep quiet, "blindly follows authority at the expense of someone else" is not nearly the innocent, blameless trait her apologists think it is. There's a reason this is the trait Milgram checked in his experiments.)
Honestly, Marinette's attitude towards the secrets seems to be along the lines of "she's entitled to know everything but anything Chat learns is a favour to him". You see it a lot in s4 and onwards, but it exists even as far back as s2.
I probably don't need to tell you how bullshit that mindset is. There's not a single secret in regards to the miraculous that Marinette is entitled to and Adrien isn't. They've both been heroes just as long. They're both giving from themselves for the city. The things Marinette did to "earn" the right to the secrets were all either luck, the work of other people or her making mistakes and failing upwards.
Some stuff I can see an argument for on the grounds of "the best way to keep a secret is to tell as few people as possible about it". However, that reasoning has to be weighted against the practical concerns I mentioned earlier.
But another major aspect of the secret keeping is that by not telling Chat anything, or even advocating for his right to know, Marinette is very much throwing her partner under the bus.
Their entire partnership is supposed to be built on trust. There are many times where Chat blindly trusts Ladybug. Yet her actions communicate that she 1) doesn't trust him 2) doesn't keep his best interest in mind.
You can argue until the end of time whether that's what she actually thinks or not, but it's what her actions communicate. Trust is a two way street. You can't demand someone trust you without also extending trust in return.
Chat would have every right to see that behaviour and stop trusting Ladybug, considering she isn't even telling him anything about why she's keeping secrets. If he wasn't an abused kid already used to being treated like shit, that could've very much lead to the breaking of their partnership as a direct result of Marinette's actions.
The only thing I may be willing to allow "it wasn't her secret to tell" for is Fu's trauma about destroying the order. But even that is very iffy considering it's very important information to know in regards to whether he can be trusted.
They guy presents himself as this wise mentor trained in an ancient tradition of the miraculous. That's where he derives most of his authority from. But the truth is that he's a half trained disciple who failed the tests he was given. If his actions didn't lead to catastrophic results, he would've undoubtedly not been given the responsibility until he (at the very least) matured and was able to pass the test.
Fu's opinion is only one step above Adrien or Marinette's in how much it should be considered. It certainly shouldn't be treated as any kind of authority.

just finished season 6 of miraculous. i literally don't know how marinette is going to recover from this.
like okay i get that it would be very hard to have to be the one to tell adrien the truth, and marinette knows it would be absolutely devastating for multiple reasons (it would completely change his relationships to family members like nathalie and felix, he would know he was the reason his mother died, he would know that his father no longer cared about him at the end of his life etc etc). there's also the risk that she might reveal her secret identity to him and that, as previously shown, would be a nightmare.
however, one, adrien isn't the person he was when he and marinette first met. hes a lot more secure and calm and mature, plus even if he no longer trusts his family, he has such a large support system that i'm sure he would be able to heal. it would be difficult to see how ladybug/marinette lied and propped his father up as a hero because gabriel was selfish and wanted adrien's adoration even in death, but i think he would heal, it would just take time. two, adrien's autonomy should be first priority to anyone who cares about him because it's been robbed from him so much. he may be innocent and naive but he deserves to be treated like a person despite that. He should be allowed to be angry and messy and make mistakes! it was what everyone was fighting for in the first place!
third. biggest one. if marinette just told the truth and ignored gabriel's wishes, or even if she told adrien later on after he was back on his feet after all the stress his father's death caused, she would have been easily forgiven by him (because he's a doormat). but now she has dug herself such a deep hole that if she were to tell him now, she would have to tell him about how she literally ORDERED CHAT NOIR TO ERASE ALYAS MEMORY BECAUSE ALYA WANTED TO TELL HIM THE TRUTH. not to mention 70 million other lies she told for absolutely no reason.
she has made it so she cannot come out of this looking in any way forgivable!! not even mentioning the things she's done to her friends this season. they totally played up her meddling in the worst possible way, mostly because they upped the stakes of the shit she's meddling in far too much. sure, social media haters and a crappy date are normal marinette fare, but she keeps on putting her friends in danger with abusive parents (adrien's family, her fucking outing nathaniel to his abusive mother in front of the entire school) and she broke a girl's legs, plus how she disregarded sabrina's feelings and literally shut a door in her face without saying sorry for the mistake. and i could forgive a lot of this, i did in earlier seasons, because at least you could say that while delusional marinette's heart was in the right place. but its not anymore!
she's so stubborn and fixed in her view of the world this season that she doesn't view anyone in her life as a person. she refuses to look bad in front of adrien so she drags him and everyone else down on her journey to cover up the truth. and all i can think about is that lila was kind of right in the end. not completely of course, since she always thought marinette was intentionally being a manipulator, but marinette is like lila. she wants everyone to like her and for everything to go as she sees it should go, so she meddles in peoples personal affairs and ignores their boundaries to do so, all while obscuring her intentions. marinette and lila are two sides of the same coin now. one lies to get her way and one never tells the whole truth.
I'm always so frustrated with the way they write Marinette. It's so cool to see a show have a female protagonist that's given the struggles that male superheros usually have, that she can be silly and girly and have flaws and still be capable and an empathetic, kind person. Marinette's struggle for personal perfection contrasted with Adrien's objectification was always so interesting, it made them contrast so well. However Marinette has become less of a flawed but ultimately deserving team leader and more of a mentally ill girl who is so consumed in her delusion, paranoia, and the self worth she tied up in Adrien that she's less empathetic now and more domineering, pushing past boundaries and treating people like shit because she can't see past her ideals and her desire for personal perfection. She's like Lila, she's like Gabriel, she's like Chloe, she's everyone she ever hated. I literally don't know how they can fix that.

not that this matters but I feel like I need to announce to my literal dozens of followers on this account that I finally watched the s6 episodes that are out and i actually really like them. there I said it. I’m being so brave to admit that after being so whiny about ml for the last year lol but it feels good to be a lover again!!!
however comma I did have to pause several times throughout to rant about things that pissed me off lol and I still feel deeply opposed to and betrayed by many the narrative choices that led up to and stemmed from the s5 finale. so. I’m still a hater but I’m also ready to have a good time again. I am, perhaps foolishly, choosing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt (yet again) and hope that they will resolve the lying-about-gabriel thing in a satisfactory way. I was sort of afraid they just would let that be the new status quo forever and not really address it but the moral grayness and weight of that secret has been a recurring theme in the season so far so I assume they are building up to address it in the finale. (And I mean, I don’t think they should have made it a plot point at all, but I’ve already ranted about this at length so I won’t speak more on it now lol. Since they did choose to make this a plot point, it makes sense that it’s a big enough issue to need a major resolution and that’s better than it being glossed over after just an episode or two. And again I’m giving the benefit of the doubt here and hoping it won’t still be glossed over…which it could be. Please miraculous don’t do this to me again pleeeease.)
But anyway. Despite all of that I had a great time watching s6. the episodes were really fun and all the redesigns rock (still have mixed feelings abt adrien and marinette’s face models but I can live with it lol). I didn’t expect to like the new character Sublime but I actually enjoyed her a lot. and although I really do miss the old Ladynoir partnership dynamic, I am enjoying seeing all the heroes contribute. also this season is so gay so congrats to all the marcnath and julerose stans out there👍
And most surprisingly, I thought adrinette was really cute 😭 initially watching them be lovey dovey was giving me hives bc just like. Obviously I always wanted them to be together but not in THIS circumstance…., but they had some really sweet moments and I was just like 😭 ok yeah I still love them forever, i can’t help it, they’ve been my otp for like 6 years now and I’m weak. maybe I’ve just entered a new phase of denial. whatever. I’m never escaping the clutches of the cat and bug show I guess. maybe it will betray me even harder with this finale. who knows. In the meantime I’m gonna play with my blarbie dolls again and have a good time even if there is disappointment and bitterness still simmering under the surface. isnt that what we are all doing in the year 2025. isn’t that the only way to survive. you can be a lover and a hater simultaneously. i contain multitudes #nuance #myduality #someoneplaytoyswithme
I keep seeing people hand-wringing about how it would be ~so traumatizing~ for Adrien to confront his father, but that reasoning always struck me as kind of pathetic.
First of all, Adrien is a superhero, last I checked? Gabriel has power over Adrien, yeah, but Hawk Moth and Cat Noir don't have that kind of power dynamic.
Second of all, do you realize why it would be traumatizing for Adrien to do this, right? Adrien lacks a real support system outside of Marinette, and especially a real parental figure he can trust and that can cushion the loss. Of course he's going to be extremely vulnerable to Gabriel's emotional manipulation every time they fight, Gabriel is the only family he has left. To say nothing of the fact that the reveal is always unceremoniously dropped on him.
Third, the fact that it hurts is exactly what makes it interesting. Adrien is the type of character who keeps giving second chances and tries to see the good in people who least deserve it. The Adrien vs. Gabe confrontation puts him into a position where he has to realize that, no, sometimes you have to cut a bitch both for your own good and that of everyone around you. Thematically, Adrien's character is all about destruction sometimes being necessary, even if it doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy about yourself.
Fourth and most importantly, and I can't believe this even needs to be said, Adrien is not a real child. If this were a real-life situation I would advise caution, but like. This is a story. Narrative cohesion always takes precedence over realism.
This may be a hot take, but insisting that the confrontation can be nothing but viscerally traumatizing for Adrien engages in the same infantilization that the show has for him.
Worse actually, because the show did let him confront Gabriel as Nighttormentor and tells him all the ways he sucks. In fact, Adrien sounded just about ready to cut Gabriel off. That wasn't traumatic for Adrien, the opposite. It was empowering for him. The only trauma he got from the encounter is the magical fear dust making him see visions of Chat Blanc despite never being told about it.
Hell, we can't even say that the confrontations in Chat Blanc and Ephemeral were traumatizing for Adrien, because we only saw his reaction the minute it was all dropped on him. That's not trauma, that's normal human emotion. Anyone would react this strongly to that kind of reveal blindsiding them. For all we know, if the world didn't end and instead Gabriel was defeated, Adrien could've been upset for some time while processing it, but he would process it and then go on with his life.
That's actually seems more in character for him than insisting he would completely break apart at confronting Gabriel even with someone to support him. By all indications, Adrien is actually a remarkably emotionally resillient person. He dealt with the loss of a parent with minimal-to-no support system and his other parent withdrawing from him and less than a year later he's running away to public school and showing a remarkably healthy outlook on his mother's passing (in contrast to his father's refusal to move on from her).
When faced with the loss of another parental figure while literally having in the palm of his hand the option to prevent it (an option that his father is terrorizing the city for), he rejects it because he's able to cope with the impending loss well enough to not take a morally bad option to prevent it.
And that's not even getting into how optimistic he is despite the general background bullshit of his life.
Would Adrien experience a lot of emotional turmoil from the reveal? Yes. But that's not trauma. And it's the interesting part we all come to stories for.
This! Adrien is way, way tougher than a lot of people give him credit for. He just always finds out in the absolute worst ways possible, which limits his ability to react in any sort of collected manner. The show has a really bad habit of doing things like this. Have the worst case scenario play out, and then go "Welp, I guess there was nothing we could do.", as if there weren't a million other options. It's the writing equivalent of that husband who intentionally messes up household chores so you'll never ask him again.
And we actually do have an example of how he would react if it wasn't worst case scenario! In the Collector he needed like five minutes to think through the possibility before he was ready to confront Gabriel and get to the bottom of it (and it was with absolutely flimsy evidence too). In addition, he has no more trouble fighting his father than any other akuma, so that's not a factor either.
We canonically know that if told in a calm manner and given a few minutes to process, he could absolutely mentally steel himself to go against his father as Hawkmoth. That's honestly a way better reaction than most people will manage.
Yet both the fandom and the show love to forget about it.
