in the heart or in the head

halloween: this year, we haunt our own houses. we haunt our own hearts.

vampire: eternity bites when you have lived for too long, when everything withers and you remain: when inside the sordid beauty of your wasted flesh the years flow together like poured wine or spilled blood. you have known the hunger longer than you have known anything else.

werewolf: even in the darkness the red eye is scorned: to escape the claws of the beast you must become it. under the moon you feel yourself crack open, your bones scrape against each other. every living thing must survive the curse of transformation.

ghost: everything becomes a ghost eventually. everything fades into the monochrome translucence of time. ah, but the ghosts remember: they shift silently through the dark. they hold the shape of all your memories. they carry the world like sisyphus. 

witch: you cannot burn what is already aflame. you cannot curse what holds all the curses in their mouth. you cannot condemn what has already kissed the dark. you cannot chain what has already mastered iron. you cannot tame a witch.

ur stuck inside a 2006 highschool movie and suddenly a food fight breaks out in the lunch room and u have to defend urself. good luck.

its 2 am and ur thinking about the girl u have a crush on but shes taken so u spend ur night writing about her instead while wondering how it feels 2 make out with her.

u sneak out of ur house at 3 in the morning only to find a dimly lit street with a flickering light. the flicker flows in such a way that ur body can’t help but dance to its beat.

the sun starts to set while ur laying on ur trampoline and u become so entranced by the slowly appearing stars that you begin to think about the extraterrestrials and how they live up there. u get up and start jumping as high as u can while u wish u could be up there with them.

ur an experienced hacker and also trying to overthrow the government all at the same time. the CIA are trying to catch u but ur always one step ahead.

ur at an antique garage sale and u stumble upon an old lava lamp that u quickly buy. once u plug it in, u stare at the lava moving slowly when suddenly u feel urself being pulled into a trance, ur moves replicating that of the lamp.

ur sitting in the car, the wind from ur open window blowing ur hair, when u realize this is it. this is life. ur not scared, u feel okay. life is okay. life is good.

it’s the year 2077 & you’re at a nightclub in tokyo with your best friend, you’re both on the run from a group of rebels but you feel safe in this little neon corner of nowhere so when a robot waiter offers you a strawberry daiquiri you accept it you’re a tourist on mars & you’re trying to contact home but the signal is really crappy so you just end up buying yourself an icecream sundae & waiting in this strange alien queue to buy an interstellar sim card you’re in a small virginian town that was wiped off the map several years ago housesitting for a mysterious neighbor when you find a secret passageway in their library, you have no idea where it leads but you’re curious to take a look  you’re in victorian england & you’re walking down a path adorned with the warm aureate glow of gaslights & it’s snowing softly & you have your hands buried deep in your coat pockets while somewhere in the distance, someone announces that the queen is dead you meet god at a gas station at 3.03 am & he asks you if you want to go for a motorcycle ride with him & when you say yes he warns you that he’s about to introduce you to things you can never unknow 

you’re in love with a ghost who shows up in all your household mirrors & keeps turning off the kitchen light but one night you realize that you’re the one that’s been doing all the haunting  it’s a rehab centre for celestial beings, where angels with dying halos flitter past & talk to you of stars, you love working this job, learning about the woes of a dozen flighty beings, & they endow you with their strength & light in return you’re stuck in a time loop inside of a 80′s horror flick and your entire world feels like it’s glitching around you nothing is real except for your strange lover with eyes like moonlight calling you to come back to bed  you’re at an island at midnight all by yourself, the night sky is so clear the sea reflects the star-matted sky, a salty breeze lifts your hair, you breathe in deep & dream of someone beautiful coming to your rescue
