re: liam’s feigned ignorance around the ‘pretty boy’ single release. idk how to word this exactly but noel did seem to have a way of taking something that liam was proud of and making it bad. like i’ve already talked about the ownership and liam being proud to belong to noel and noel using that for Evil (i can make him do whatever i want him to do without him realizing it blah blah blah). and with ‘pretty boy’, even though the existence of the song as a whole does betray noel’s desire to give liam what he wants bc he wants it too, the “you know that you can’t have it, so get your head down, pretty boy” is still particularly cruel. i personally read it as noel being sexually crude as a means to take liam down a peg. liam’s lyrics suggest that he is very proud of his ability to make noel feel good sexually, that he relishes taking it slowly and really demonstrating his love and affection (and noel’s lyrics suggest that his skills are really that, uh, mindblowing). and regardless of whatever ethos noel was working with for that song, that line in particular is still a slap in the face, addressing liam’s looks and sexuality - ‘you know that thing you think you’re so good at? it’s all you’re good for, and it’s the only thing i want from you, so get to work.’

and i think it just sets liam up to spiral into thoughts about how ‘unlovable’ he is, how uninteresting and useless he is outside of his beauty and sexual ‘labor’ and willingness to subjugate himself.
