Pun-master in the making

Sorry for all the pokemon stuff (not sorry).

I recently went to the cinema for the first time here in Japan. It’s pretty expensive (about 1500円 for a student ticket to most movies), but the cinemas are great! Unlike the cinema back home, you can actually look over people’s heads even if they are tall :D

It goes without saying that since these two movies are Japanese, they have no sub or dub, aka. we had to rely on the Japanese we’ve learned so far. I was surprised by how much I understood of Koe no Katachi (I read the manga a while back). In comparison, I saw Kimi no na wa without knowing much beforehand and probably missed some important things, because it didn’t move me nearly as much.

What better restaurant to visit for Halloween than a medical prison themed one? That’s exactly what we did- we went to Alcatraz ER (site in Japanese, but the options are in in English if you want to check out the menu/gallery).

This was one weird place, let me tell you that much.

I ordered the blue curry, Kladdpapper got the roast beef p****. The light wasn’t the best for taking photos, so the picture quality is less than stellar- sorry :(

An arm wrestling tournament and a cosplay contest. For some reason our school and our teachers really enjoy arm wrestling, and especially our homeroom teacher jumps at any chance to arm wrestle.

Among many other stores, the manga class held a manga workshop hosted by an actual mangaka (I didn’t catch his name, sorry!) that offered critique and advice. Kladdpapper participated and got praised, and he even wanted to see her portofolio?! We pretty much ran home and gathered all the artwork she deemed worthy to show the master, and he told her that she should submit works to Shonen Jump (which anyone can do, and they will receive critique and feedback- it’s pretty cool!)

If you watch anime you’ve probably heard of the cultural school festival. In our school, it happened last weekend, and it was very much like something pulled right out of an anime. We had Thursday-Friday for preparations while the actual festival took place Saturday-Sunday. During this time the school is open to the public, so anyone can swing by and have a look.

Our class decided to host a simple game and sell iced flower tea after much discussion and frustration over the strict rules that applied to any classes selling food. Now, there are a lot of classes in our school and we all had to share space, and much to our dismay we were given the lobby on the 2nd floor- or, should I say, 30% of it. I’m proud to say we made the best of the space we were given, though!

Like you might guess from the top picture, our game was “throw balls at cans and knock them over”. Simple, but fun! Since Halloween was right around the corner we went for a monster theme~

The preparations were actually really fun- the whole class co-operated and tried to find solutions to the problems we encountered, and despite our limited space and budget I think it turned out really well??
