depression and anxiety are completely natural states to experience when a homosapien is facing chronic stress to their wellbeing and safety. it is, unfortunately, also normal for homosapiens to become stuck in this state, since the societies that we live in often do not offer pathways out of chronic stress, and chronic stress changes the bodymind.

you are not a failure if you have been severely mentally ill for years, or your entire life. and you are not doomed, either. you are alive just as much as every other person on the planet is right now. you are a whole, living, organism. mental illness isn't a sign you've done something wrong.

you dont need to have gone through something graphically violent or life threatening to experience all this. you dont. human society has become so complex, and with that so have our minds and sense of self. we have so many disparate ideals shoved into our head every single day. so many of these ideals are completely contrary to our nature - ie, what actually supports our wellbeing.

we are really all just here, living in a time of rapid societal change, under oppressive social structures that have been developing for millennia. we've come far from even 20-30 years ago in terms of technological and scientific development, but, our nature is still the same.

we were built to survive distress. we were not built to thrive under it. the people you see accomplishing great things after horrible circumstances are often able to do so because they have support. not all of us are lucky to have supportive people or resources in our lives at present, and that's not a failure either. individualism has made all of us more lonely and isolated.
