So...how much of the bad discourse surrounding Steven Universe is just because people were really hoping that the Gems would beat up Andy DeMayo in "Gem Harvest"?
I was astonished to learn that there was controversy around this episode, because I felt like it was just kind of a normal children's cartoon about getting along with difficult relatives; and then I looked it up and learned that it had the extremely inauspicious timing of airing right after Trump's 2016 victory, and, yeah, okay, I can understand why a children's fantasy about reconciling with your obnoxious conservative relatives and getting them to accept your alternate family structure would play rather poorly at the time.
I think that Rebecca Sugar probably assumed, like most of the world that wasn't my specific flavour of extremely online in 2016, that Clinton would crush Trump and that this episode would maybe help to smooth over divisions; but of course what ended up happening is that an episode about how you should be empathetic towards your bigoted relatives ended up airing just as your bigoted relatives were going around victoriously hate-criming people in the street.
Watching it now, though, it ends up feeling wistful more than anything. Like, yeah, sure, it doesn't work like that, and we all know that now...But wouldn't it be nice if it did? It feels like a pleasant dream.
Steven Universe is fundamentally a power fantasyābut the fantasy is being able to get through to people and heal things. The power is love instead of strength.
"Like, yeah, sure, it doesn't work like that, and we all know that now...But wouldn't it be nice if it did?" Yeah....
the version of you from five years ago would be genuinely amazed by what youāve handled since then. sit with that for a second

Happy Pride Month! If the punchline of your joke is the idea of a pregnant man, itās not funny. Here are some examples of jokes that you might be using without thinking that could be hurting people around you.
> āIāM GONNA GET HIM PREGNANT!ā/āthe boy impregnatorā/anything similar where the joke is that the idea of a pregnant man is absurd, impossible, or outside of the realm of reality.
> Pregnant man emoji reactions to Discord messages.
> Commenting on the pregnancies of real men with anything about ao3, fanfiction, or omegaverse.
> Referring to a real manās pregnancy as a butt pregnancy.
i remember when i was first exploring being trans online and that stereotype of the soft, emotional āsmall bean uwu tboiā was still very prevalent as the absolute worst thing a trans man could be. and obviously this was due to misogyny, everyone can agree with that, young transmascs were having toxic masculinity pushed onto them by misogynistic older transmeds.
but what i think is very interesting is the fact that this misogynistic, toxically masculine stereotype of the ātranstrenderā is still being used against trans men by people on this website who also paradoxically claim that theyre being feminist.
like think about it. ātheyfabā is just another word for transtrender. ābirthday boyā is just another way to call a transmasc overly emotional and therefore feminine. literally every insult for transmascs they oppose is based around belittling them for not being masculine enough. you guys are not being feminists here.
It is incredibly frustrating how trans men and transmascs get erased from history time and time again, even by other trans people. They donāt even realize theyāre doing it sometimes. I saw a tweet by someone who said something along the lines of ātrans women and crossdressers were arrested for public indecency in the Stonewall era.ā
It would have been just as easy to say trans people and it would have been more accurate as trans women werenāt the only trans people affected. But no, trans men and transmascs were erased from the discussion once again despite experiencing the exact same thing.
This casual erasure of our history is so normalized that nobody even notices when it happens. We are just slowly being cut out and silenced. Maybe one day people will forget entirely that we even were here.
People also just ignore how Marsha P. Johnson herself clarified that she did not throw the first brick at Stonewall, an act of transmasculine erasure against Storme DeLaverie.
The asylum for "women and girls" where transmasculine people were locked up for cross dressing laws was IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD AS STONEWALL-
one simply must not underestimate the amount of intense transandrophobia that comes from self-identified TMEs & other trans men. & one must not underestimate the amount of people that would be considered "TMA" and trans women who get treated like shit for calling out anti-transmasculinity.
this is why the problem of anti-transmasculinity in trans spaces is not as simple as "non-transmascs need to stop talking over transmascs on transmasc experiences" because while yes that is true! the real problem is anti-transmasculinity as something we all internalize. our goal should be collective healing through unlearning anti-transmasculinity, so we can treat each other better and be more effective in resisting oppression, not treating different trans groups as warring factions.
(additionally there are people who don't identify as transmasculine who are still affected by anti-transmasculinity, or who otherwise contribute in valuable ways to the discussion on it; "talking over" does not mean "talking at all.")

I Do think we need to address the fact that a Lot of the discomfort and anger pointed at representations of feminine trans men and masculine trans women come down to the VIEWER not being able to see gnc trans people as their stated gender
"oh of Course the Feminine man is trans, you're just trying to make heteronormative yaoi" okay did you come to that conclusion based on how the artist talks about trans people, or are You incapable of seeing a feminine man as actually Being a man
The idea trans men can "pass easier" comes from a place of privilege, survivorship bias, and a lack of understanding of trans masc oppression.
Society sees trans men as delusional girls, as people breaking out of its strict concept of femininity, and treat then accordingly.
This means that most trans men will be placed into situations that prevent any form of freedom, like child marriage, arranged marriages, being forced to be a caretaker of a house, ect.
This means that society will degrade trans men and make them "know their place" through rape, sexual assault and pregnancy. (A very common occurrence as we have the highest sexual assault statistic of any minoroty group with 1 in 2 trans men facing it)
This means society will treat trans men like shit until they kill themselves, which works as 50% of us from ages 11 to 19 attempt suicide.
And this means trans men must detransition themselves for their safety and to get help.
This blocks a significant amount of trans man from transitioning. So, let's take a look at who we have left.
Those who are in the middle of transitioning are most likely to be seen as lesbians by others, not as transitioning trans men.
And those who have easier access to transitioning, meaning they have white privileges, parental support, and/or the money to transition.
Of course, people who have white privileges, parental support, and/or the money to transition will have a much easier time transition. They have less pushback from their communities, can buy packers and binders, have the money to get clothing that hides curves, etc. They also have the support to be able to be way more vocal about transitioning, too.
So, to summarize, most trans men cannot transition due to outside circumstances or die before they can, causing a small portion of us to be able to transition. Those of us who can are usually seen as lesbians by others if we don't pass and those who have an easier time transition are people with support/money/white privilege to do so, which also allows them to be more vocal about transitioning.
As such, when people look at trans men who are transitioning, they only ever see the minority who are vocal about it, and assume that all of us have it easy, when in reality that isn't the case.

This a Moonmelon, scientifically knows as asidus. This fruit grows in some parts of Japan, and is known for its vibrant blue color. What you probably donāt know about this fruit is that it can switch flavors after you eat it. Everything sour will taste sweet, everything salty will taste bitter, and it gives water a strong orange-like taste. Itās also very expensiveā¦costing about ļæ„16000 JPY (which is about 200 dollars).

I don't have time for tumblr discourse they're calling the very hungry caterpillar degenerate art over on twitter
good art is when something looks like real life, the more real it looks the more better the art. abstracted figures give my trad children nightmares, one time they were exposed to cubism and couldn't go outside for a week
Huh fascinating, I wonder what the fash have against Eric Carle? I wonder what he might have said about his life, and influences, and early experiences that makes them say heās part of an āinsalubrious cultureā?
Franz Marc (1880-1916) was a German painter and printmaker, one of the key figures of the German Expressionist movement.
The intersectional understanding that I wish more terminally-online transfeminists understood is that, unlike the liberation of cis men, the liberation of trans men, transmascs, and trans people conscripted into 'womanhood' legally *requires* the liberation of cis women.
There is no intersectional theory that will accurately describe this group without first understanding that *we* are *there*, among the horrors that every cis woman around the globe is subjected to under patriarchy. And we are also trans.
