I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with relating to characters, “they’re literally me” etc but if that’s the only way you engage with stories you’re kinda missing the whole point of Characters being vehicles through which we can see perspectives outside of our own. and also you’re going to get upset when the Character acts in a way that is not Personally Relatable to You

It's funny, I don't think I've ever met a true Timon and Pumbaa hater in real life. Most folks I know have a lot of fondness for them. That's their childhood right there. Hakuna Matata is their Let It Go or Golden. Even the folks who aren't fans are relatively chill. ("I don't despise them, they're just not for me.")

And then you go online and some fans act like they're the worst thing to happen to the franchise or on the same level of annoying as-- (insert your most loathed Disney character here)

It depends on how old they were when specific movies came out. For example, Doug Walker not being a fan of Hercules has been a meme for over a decade, but at the same time he was in high school when that movie came out, so it makes sense that it didn’t resonate with him the same way it did for people around our age.

(Also as a side note, I think the gargoyle trio from The Hunchback of Notre Dame get too much hate.)

Yeahhh...it makes sense but I wish he didn't have the internet in a chokehold for so long. (And this is coming somebody who used to watch him almost religiously up until 2018.) You can really tell when folks are just parroting his talking points instead of thinking for themselves, especially with Looney Tunes.

(Same, I've seen so much worse. Laverne is actually pretty cool but then, I've always had a soft spot for sassy old ladies. 👍)

I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.
