My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Maybe the most damming thing about Nolans odyssey is i havenât seen a single gifset from it
The way people are acting about Mangione's guilty plea is pissing me off. Again, much of the evidence they had against Mangione was seriously flawed or capable of being planted. Much of it should have been inadmissable. This is something we shouldn't cede because guilt needs to be proven beyond reasonable doubt in court. They did not do that. Many reasonable doubts remained, particularly for police forces we know have a history of fabricating evidence. Further, the strategy of the state is to pressure defendants into putting in a guilty plea on some kind of bargain. The reason Mangione did this is to get around the federal death penalty. Every day, people in America plead guilty to crimes they didn't do, because the cost of being found guilty by trial is too severe, and they have been intimidated or coerced to compliance. We have reason to believe Mangione was physically tortured at the beginning of all this. The guy has been the target of years of media campaign. There's no way he would have gotten a fair trial. As soon as he was arrested, everyone just accepted it was him. He could have gotten the death penalty. This is the exact kind of circumstance where people plead guilty to shit they didn't do.
It is less about this specific case and more about the principle of the matter. Particularly in a case so high-profile, we need to scrutinize the case of the state as much as humanly possible. We need to maintain awareness of how the state operates, how it prosecutes, how it punishes. This same pattern has played out with unknowable quantities of other people being ground to paste in the machinery of the prison industrial complex. This is a conversation everyone in America needs to be having. These are maneuvers every American needs to be aware of, particularly as the police state kicks into higher gear than we've ever seen it before. We cannot trust state prosecution. You need to maintain your skepticism, not for this case, but for all the cases that are going to follow it. We all need to hang onto this together.

All y'all better be reblogging this
PERIOD. I WONâT TOLERATE BIGOTS đđť
Everyone reblog this. Mandatory.
use, and i cannot stress this enough, thriftbooks
if thriftbooks doesnât have what youâre looking for, especially if youâre looking for it used/cheap, alternatives include betterworldbooks and discoverbooks.
Other tips for cheaper books is checking amazon and scrolling down to the âbuy usedâ or âother sellersâ section and then checking to see if those sellers have storerfonts off of amazon.
There is also a good chance that you might have a local, indie book store that likely also has a used book section! Indiebound might help you find those book stores!
Also, check out your local library, sometimes, they have a for sale section or might have certain times of the year where they do massive used book (dvd, cd, etc) sales to fundraise!
(Itâs also worth checking directly from an authorâs or publisherâs page and seeing if they have other places they sell their books. I know this is about cheaper/used books, since some of yâall arenât built for piracy or the library, but also if you want to dodge supporting amazon AND want to more directly support artists you support, thereâs a good chance they might have alternate ways to buy the books!)
I use thriftbooks a lot, it's so good!
as someone who works in an independent bookstore, alibris is the best for supporting yr local bookstore! abebooks is now owned by amazon. thriftbooks is great also just doesnât usually support independent stores.
Bookshop.org is also out there and pretty great. As a former bookseller (16 years in the trade), I'm a big fan of Alibris, and I'm still a bit pissed about abebooks being swallowed by Amazon and turning to shit. If you want the absolute lowest price for used books (or to figure out how to price things for sale), I recommend bookfinder.com, which allows you to get into the nitty gritty with a lot of little search functions, though you can also just whack in an author or title and see what pops up. It does offer links for things like Amazon, Ebay, and Abebooks, but it also gives you thriftbooks and alibris links.
the idea that predators and abusers are an ontological category of person, rather than everyone having the capacity to be predatory and abusive, leads to people having no regard for boundaries because they think that predation only comes from evil people â˘

michael b. jordan in âthe thomas crown affairâ (2027)
guy accidentally cures his own road rage by making fun of the person who caused his road rage
Guy: Yeah Iâm, Iâm just gonna put this out into the world: I need you to drive, like you got in your car on purpose. Drive like youâve got somewhere to be, because I do, and Iâm behind you! I donât know how I always get stuck behind the person thatâs like. *impression* âThat cloud kinda looks like.....looks like a rabbit!â âI do believe....that meadow is full of daffodils!â
*cracking up* Okay, hereâs the problem, is I was mad at that guy, and now that Iâm doing an impression of him I kinda think heâs adorable and I like him. I like him now. Itâs a very unique way to defuse my own road rage. I donât know what kind of mental illness I have, but itâs fun.
I've been thinking about this video non-stop for months, but do you know what just occurred to me? This is actually a great example of mindfulness, expression, and self-modulation.
Instead of bottling it or lashing out, he took the time to stop in a quiet place to process an upsetting event. He validated his anger, and stated he felt his needs were going unmet. He then humanized the person who upset him, and considered their intentions. He then found perspective on the event and his own emotions. This then genuinely calmed him down.
Those are all therapy skills being used in real time! Which, like, I don't think people talk about enough. Part of the human experience is getting angry about stupid things. Feelings can't be permanently bottled or unleashed full force on the spot. You need to process it, and take the time to see the bigger picture.
The jingle of Zayneâs keys in the front door is normally a sound you look forward to, but now it just makes you sink further into the couch with a pout.
âDarling, Iâm home,â he calls out, followed shortly by the crinkling bags of groceries he bought on his way home from the hospital. You let his greeting go unanswered for one, two seconds longer than usual before giving in, because to be honestâyou did miss him today.
Heâs already unpacking the bags when you walk into the kitchen, a task that is briefly abandoned to give you your courtesy kiss on the forehead. All the annoyance starts to fizzle away in your chest. But then you refocus to see the carton of eggs on the counter, and you cross your arms with a huff.
âHow were the sales?â You bite out, leaning against the cabinets. Zayneâs peering into the fridge, reorganizing the produce drawer to make room for some broccoli, but his back tenses at your tone.
âThey were⌠okay.â The moment he looks up, youâre passing him the tub of yoghurt like itâs a bag of trash, gaze set resolutely out the window. Every kind of alarm bell goes off in his head. He canât think of anything he did today to upset you, though heâs been in a relationship long enough to realize that something is still wrong, so he chooses to tread lightly. âI know you said you didnât want anything in your text, but I still picked up some stuff for the snack drawer. It was running low.â
He hesitantly proffers one of the reusable bags to you and despite yourself, you take a peek. Itâs everything you likeâsweet, spicy, savory. There are also chocolate-covered pretzels even though you banned them from the house after he gave himself a stomachache after eating a whole bag in one sitting. His ears are tipped pink, caught in the act, but heâs still holding the bag open for your inspection.
You nod silently, stuck between your irritation and the all-encompassing endearment towards your boyfriend. A lump forms in your throat, which only grows with guilt as you see the gears working overtime behind his eyes.
âDid⌠you want something specific after all?â He tries, already reaching for his keys. You swipe them away before he can make contact, and his brows furrow adorably in confusion.
God, you canât be mad at this man. You mumble petulantly under your breath and Zayne just leans in closer, gently prompting you to repeat yourself. Your cheeks burn with embarrassment, an almost childish pout to your voice. âI wanted to come.â
He blinks. âTo the store?â
âYeah.â You stare down at the tiles, tracing the grout with your toes. âYou keep going without me recently. But I like going grocery shopping with you.â
Understanding dawns on his face. His hands come to rest on your upper arms, rubbing them apologetically. âIâm sorry, my love. Itâs on the way home from work, so I thought it would be an easy chore for me to take care of without you having to concern yourself.â
âIt doesnât feel like a chore when weâre together.â
âIt doesnât,â he agrees, smiling softly. Another kiss is pressed to your forehead, then he dips lower to sweetly peck your cheek as well. When Zayne comes back up, youâve already forgiven him. âHow about we watch a movie and open some of these snacks right now? Then we can go shopping together sooner.â
âOkay,â you say, warmed with his love. He steps away to rifle through the bag of snacks before you straighten, rememberingâ âBut no touching those pretzels! Since you went and bought them by yourself, you can sit and watch me eat them by myself.â
Heâs never going to the grocery store alone again.
a/n: why does he keep leaving home to go shopping whyyyyyyy đ
Ok, it's taken me SIX YEARS to make this. But I did it! It's done! Please watch it!
(No AI used fuck AI)
It's my first animation project, which is why it took so long. I had to learn to animate to make it. It's only a bit over 2 minutes, but I made it the best I possibly could. Please please please watch it. I am so proud of it.
It's a trailer for my first novel- a late YA scifi/superhero book.
Is it absurd to make a fully animated book "trailer" for a book that's been out for 6 years, with voice acting and commissioned music (by the fantastic @plottwiststudios) ? I mean yes. Of course. I'm not even doing this for real marketing purposes because this is a ridiculous thing to do. I don't even really think it'll sell books but the process of making it made me really really happy.
I love my fictional disaster queers, and I love my book, and when I was a kid I thought I'd grow up to be an animator. I've always loved animation, and I really, really enjoyed making something animated myself. I'm really proud of how it turned out.
Please watch it. Please share it.
If it does make you actually want to read the story, you can get it as an ebook, paperback, or audiobook. (the ebook is currently free)
I start my next animation project- a fake anime opening credits for book 3 in this series, starting next month.
Please Reblog!

For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
