me, every single time i see people (especially women) talking about the divine feminine energy, or the sacredness of the womb or whatever it is now:
[image description: a two-panel photo of a person dialling a number and then placing the phone to their ear. the contact is saved as ‘Ursula K. Le Guin’ /end ID]
context is this quote by her:
But I didn’t and still don’t like making a cult of women’s knowledge, preening ourselves on knowing things men don’t know, women’s deep irrational wisdom, women’s instinctive knowledge of Nature, and so on. All that all too often merely reinforces the masculinist idea of women as primitive and inferior – women’s knowledge as elementary, primitive, always down below at the dark roots, while men get to cultivate and own the flowers and crops that come up into the light. But why should women keep talking baby talk while men get to grow up? Why should women feel blindly while men get to think?
Also shout out to Angela Carter:
“If women allow themselves to be consoled for their culturally determined lack of access to the modes of intellectual debate by the invocation of hypothetical great goddesses, they are simply flattering themselves into submission (a technique often used on them by men). All the mythic versions of women, from the myth of the redeeming purity of the virgin to that of the healing, reconciliatory mother, are consolatory nonsenses; and consolatory nonsense seems to me a fair definition of myth, anyway. Mother goddesses are just as silly a notion as father gods. If a revival of the myths gives women emotional satisfaction, it does so at the price of obscuring the real conditions of life. This is why they were invented in the first place.” ― Angela Carter, The Sadeian Woman: And the Ideology of Pornography
tired of cannibalism as a metaphor for love or sex. can we get into cannibalism as a metaphor for colonization.
1. Europeans using Egyptian mummies as medicine
2. The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism Within US Slave Culture by Vincent Woodard
3. "Abolitionists turned the tables on Europeans by accusing them of being cannibals when they ate sugar tainted with the flesh and blood of slaves."
4. Zombies (which I would class as cannibals, since they were human and need to eat humans to live) have a root in Haitian folklore and represented enslavement.
adding that, if you can find it, cannibal culture by deborah root is about exactly this. the way the white western world is a hungry, destructive force that cannibalizes non-white cultures and creates wealth and status through the cannibal colonization of those cultures.
here's the intro
i almost think there's an essay in bell hooks' black looks about this too? yes! just checked, there's an essay called "eating the other"

adulthood notes:
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.
The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.
The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.
The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.
this is how all high protein dessert vids look to me
the problem with genetically modified crops is not so much the genetic modification but the patenting of genetic codes (and crops in general) as a tool of maintaining agricultural imperialism, and for this reason I can't talk to most people about GMOs
Its actually possible that any tense quiet young woman you meet might have an insane social media account she is addicted to posting her everything to. Who knows

I don’t care if Monday’s yuck
Tuesday, Wednesday tread through muck
Thursday maybe eat a duck
It’s Friday, Flat as Fuck
I wish I could make white people(and not just white Americans) understand how diverse the pre-columbian Americas were. The history, religion, culture, politics was at least as complex as Europe's. There was the full gamut of religions, from monotheists to animists to ancestral religions. There were city building empires, village farmers, nomadic traders, and so many other ways to live. This is all just based on what we know, the fragments left behind and the stories of survivors of an apocalyptic plague. All this before the most extended campaign of genocide in history was waged in an attempt to wipe out those survivors.
Over 500 years spent trying to cut down a whole trunk of human culture.
Do you understand how much poorer our whole species is because of it? Can you imagine where art, religion, and science would be if we still had these vast bodies of knowledge? The stain of the colonial project will never be fully washed clean. We owe more than just the land to those we stole from. We owe them a whole future, a future that could have been brighter for all of us. If only greed and fear weren't allowed to rule this land.
Old habits die hard 🫐🍦
My 3rd comic for my VIS2 class, the theme was “habit” and I found myself deciding between Smilk’s habit of not sleeping and Vanilla’s habit of skipping meals. This comic is actually based off a scrapped comic idea I’d originally written out back in October.
The colors took me a bit longer than usual, but I think it was worth it. Originally Shami’s room was going to be the same color scheme as Vanilla’s, since they’re in the Vanilla Castle, but I ended up changing it last minute to a distorted blue version.
I feel like if Shami were to come stay in the Vanilla Kingdom he’d modify whatever space he’d been given to fit his own aesthetics (to an extent). His room would be filled with books, artifacts, and most importantly, all his art projects. And since it’s his own personal room, it’d be more cluttered than other spaces since he doesn’t have to present it to anyone.
I’d like to, at some point, plan out both of their rooms fully (maybe for a longer comic or something), and maybe make 3D models of them. I want to give Vanilla’s room a little more personality, even though I feel he wouldn’t use it all too much (aside from maybe to sleep).
At some point later on, I’d love to make a more in depth comic about these two working through their mutual issue of not properly taking care of themselves- cause believe you me, Pure Vanilla is just as guilty as Shami is
Old habits… sleep hard? 🫐🍦
A “sequel” illustration to my last comic “Old Habits Die Hard”-! You can find it pinned on my profile ^u^)
I’m currently writing a “sequel” to this that focuses on PV’s issues, though it may take a while since I have finals coming up soon.
It’ll also be a bit… heavier in terms of subject matter. I’m currently writing out a loose script during my free time. Depending on how long it ends up, I may make it into a physical book-!
I do wanna say, I’ve addressed it in my story and on Twitter but- please don’t ask me if my art is a Jambound reference. While it’s flattering people think I could write like Jamma, it’s quite diminishing to have people constantly thinking something I worked really hard on was made by someone else.
I write all my comics myself, and if I’d been inspired by anyone else or their work, I would be sure to credit them properly.
braiding hair <3
also went back to my usual style for this and remembered why i use the pixel brush (my hand hurts)
