Cool event at our library system!

We had a four-week art series at our library, and here are some of the creations!

Top left: Bubble prints! Mix water, soap, and paint, then blow bubbles! Use paper to “catch” the bubbles and make a print.

Top right: Japanese Notan art, where the kids cut out an image on the black construction paper, then pasted on the other side to make matching sides in reverse colors.

Middle left: Printmaking! Draw an image in pencil or sharpie on a plastic plate. Color the plate in a thin layer of paint. Use a Q-tip to remove the paint from the original drawing. Press plate on paper and voila!

Middle right: We made our own de stijl art, just like Mondrian, by putting squares and rectangles on graph paper.

Bottom: Salvador Dali inspired play dough sculpture!

Graphic Novels for People Who Aren’t into Superheroes

These days, it seems like you can’t turn around without stepping on a cape or two. Always the powerhouses of the comic book world, superheroes have now taken over movie theaters as well.

Luckily, readers who don’t think Superman is so super don’t have to eschew the graphic novel aisles altogether. There’s a whole slew of brilliant books out there with nary a cape or cowl to be seen.
