No it's not abandoned, not mia, it's a work in progress! It's definitely coming, though not on Monday like I originally planned to, unless I manage to lock in, write and edit everything in one day, and my beta reader can get a look at it.
I'm also going ahead and launch the #twolonesoulsau tag! It's on Twitter too, though it's still empty because I only want to tag the important things.
There will also be a small 'guide' on the AU as a whole for any newcomer. It's something I personally struggle myself with, wanting to know more about the AUs in this community but info is scattered :'). It may be a carrd page that is spoiler free (may sum up the first 2 chapters of the fic, or provide a cohesive description of basic info for Allery and Enderman Derek)

I honestly consider them to be neither Hastur nor Avery, but a third thing that was born after they merged together.
I always loved how some artists would include Klimt motifs in their KiY designs and that's what I did for this one hehehe
It fits with some ideas I have for a possible lore story. I like to think that this merging caused this new god to struggle with the concept of human emotions, "love" and why they are compelled to act a certain way when gazing upon a certain knight.
In all this... they may need a name lol. Because if it's not Hastur or Avery, who are they?
Some name candidates were classics HaΓ―ta, Hali, or even Kaiwan (one of Hastur's many names), though I'm not so sure.

It's a silly recreation of the original video but with Minecraft skins made for the occasion!
And yes, you can see I provided a download link for them!
Avery looks the CUTEST.
For the models, I used Blockbench and a 3d model I found somewhere that allowed for bending the limbs in more flexible poses. Since the video was meant as a joke, I didn't put in it as much care as the original, so some little details are different and/or don't look right. They are all screenshots I took from the program after posing and then resetting everything back to default for the next pose (because I didn't know how to do otherwise):
I didn't have many ideas for Vessel!Avery, then remembered about sulfur cubes... he's supposed to be one! The colors fit soo much.

Deciphering the text
There are different encrypted text scattered in the video, hidden in two specific sections.
In the first part, at around 0:28, we get the Minecraft entry from Wikipedia (treated as infinite knowledge):
The second part, starting at around 1:07, is harder to read and would have required more work to decipher.
We start with the Wikipedia entry for Hastur. Sadly, the page doesn't provide as much info on Hastur himself and focuses on his meta origins outside of lore, so I only included this bit.
Fun fact: the original video has text placed vertically, and I tried to recreate it multiple times. I've been using kdenlive to make the video, and I was unable to get a result I liked, also because the program is a bit limited in some parts. I was NOT going to make vertical text manually.
Until 1:13, we have text taken from the book in the library and the one Derek finds with the spell (the spell itself is included later on too):
At 1:14, overlapping over and over until 1:16, we get gibberish text, with some being intelligible... except it isn't!
Solution incoming:
This is Vigenere. By using dcode, we get the key "Hastur".
With this first text,

Uhhh... what is this?
A poem I came up myself for a fic yet to be released lol. It's impossible to find in the video, unless I had put it as the first text before overlapping.
But I figured it was fitting for Matryoshka, as the video builds up until the King merges with Avery, and the world becomes Carcosa once again.
The last text to be deciphered comes at 2:11, the same timestamp where you can find the hidden youtube link.
This is galactic alphabet, pretty straightforward:

I would have liked to play more with the galactic alphabet, but any effects I wanted to get only made the text harder to read.
Onto the next section: art!
A look at the folders
Since I draw on an iPad, I had to make sure I could swap all images around as I tested. I sketched most of the parts, put them in kdenlive, then as I finished each image, I would overwrite them and they would automatically update inside the project. It saved me TONS of work!
I had iCloud on my desktop PC synced at all times, which is where the program would fetch the images each time, although sometimes it would act up and rename files instead of replacing them.
I also used Clip Studio's layer comps function so I could switch between each part without toggling folders manually, and export everything as a different batch of images!

"UNUSED"? We'll get into it later.

The eye was supposed to appear in the door section at first, but I was not convinced at all. I still don't like that part, but it's better than whatever I was trying to come up with floating eyes all around.

A look at the timeline editor
As stated above, I've used kdenlive to make the video. It's a nice little free program to use, but there are some little things that gave me more than a headache and wished they could be fixed. Keyframes being hard to move when at the far end or beginning of a clip, not being able to copy and paste modifiers but only able to do so in a bulk (unless there was a way I didn't know about), keyframes length not adapting when making a clip shorter or longer (especially shorter)...
I was already way too far in to switch to something like DaVinci Resolve, but I think it will be my choice for the next video if it has any fancy effects that I need!
For example, I couldn't put the motion blur for the spinning "Just pluck the strings" line since the editor doesn't come with it, and I couldn't figure it out otherwise.

As I was working on Vessel!Avery's image, I really wanted to convey a certain creepy feeling, so I made this sketch:
It looked silly, but it could also be considered as "over the top" for the original video, so I ended up scrapping this version! (there are already too many eyes in the image already, between Avery's yellow tattoo and those appearing on the nose).
Fun fact: if you compare Vessel!Avery's skin color with Avery, you'll see it's yellow-ish! Because of the bright yellow background and the yellow of the jacket, it's not as noticeable.
