He sat with Akhilleus on the funeral pyre and did not burn, he merely canted his head and asked a single question. “Was it worth it?”

There was no malice, no judgement but simple and genuine curiosity. He knew his answer to the question but what good was it? He was merely Death, and death did not understand these things.

Was it worth it? ... Had it been worth it? Those ten long years of war and loss and bloodshed. Had they been worth it? A part of Akhilleus’ wants to say no, that it was not worth it because he lost Patroklos thanks to his own hubris and rage and yet, he doesn’t regret the fighting. He’d accomplished what he set out to do, live a short yet brilliant life and carve his name into the world itself! Just like he’d promised his mother.

The hero shrugs and lets out a short laugh. “Of course it was. It was worth it, every second of it.” There was no rage, not even his usual confident tone in his voice. No, Akhilleus was a different man, he was no longer the same brash young man who entered Troy dreaming of glory. A small sigh leaves his lips as he looks at his own funeral pyre and then turns to his expected companion. “I’d do it all again in a heartbeat, you know? ... Though, I’d probably do a better job with Patroklos.”

“We headin’ out yet? Or do you want to stick around and see the revelry? I’ve always said it, laugh while you can! You might forget how to when you reach Elysium!”

Gods... To think there was something out there that could stagger the great Achilles, many other heroes would be shocked but him? He found it amazing! Such an exciting prospect! He hadn't had a battle that could actually wound him in a long, long time! But that thought was best left for later when Atalanta was out of danger. He was the vanguard of their little group, he was supposed to protect and keep her safe, he was no Ajax but he could do wonders with a shield as well. He was taken out of his thoughts by the voice of Atalanta, he shook his head and got up, ready to go at a moment's notice.

"I'm fine, Sis. Don't you go worryin' about me, you hear?!" He still had to maintain his pride as a hero, a hero who no matter the injury won't go down. He was Aristos Akhaion, the Greatest of the Greeks, the fastest that the Achaean Army had to offer! But, of course, she knew that. She knew what he was capable of. So, he decided to make a game out of it. "I'm up, I'm up! Say, sis, how 'bout we make this into a little race? You said we had to move, so, let's see who's fastest!"

Was it a thinly veiled excuse for them to get a move on? Of course, but that didn't mean he wasn't sincere. He'd wanted to have a race with her since his father Peleus told him her stories.

Achilles let out a loud laugh at the words of the swordsman. True, not many can compare to himself and his legend, the only ones he’d admit came close to him were Heracles and Hektor. “True words if I’ve ever heard them. My life is hard to compare to! Then again... Don’t sell yourself short, Kojiro. You’re here, as a Heroic Spirit, aren’t you? You did something right.” Achilles was always the kind of man to sing praises of those who deserved them. He sang praises of Odysseus’ intellect and skill with the bow, he reluctantly praised Hektor’s skill in battle, and of course, he sang high praise of Patroclus, for he was the worthiest of them all.

“I wonder... Can your skill with a blade match my skill in warfare? I doubt you can harm my immortal body but, I think you could give me a good fight." Achilles, the Greatest of the Greeks, was always looking to test himself against other warriors. He wouldn’t fight Hektor, they didn’t want a repeat of their duel in Troy but he wanted to see was Sasaki Kojiro could do.

This would be the second time that he would encounter with the Son of Thetis, albeit this time not for the sake of a Grail War but for the salvation of the Human Order.

To say Achilles was in a good mood would be an understatement. He’d just finished his daily training round with Cú Chulainn except this time, none other than Beowulf had joined them! Of course, the Geat King did fantastically against the Greek legend but due to his lack of Divinity, he couldn’t pierce Achilles’ immortality. However, finding himself face-to-face with Siegfried again, well it reignited Achilles’ competitive spirit.

“Oh! Siegfried, good day to you too. Of course I’m in a good mood, I just beat Beowulf in a spar. Sure, Chulainn and I still tied but hey, one day I’ll get him.” It’d been a topic of debate between some of the other Servants, especially those who knew Achilles and Cú, about who would win in a fight. But every time they sparred, it ended in a tie. Though, perhaps their tie was the reason they kept on sparring, both were highly regarded heroes, their pride was on the line there!

“What about you? You seem to be in high spirits... Or as high spirited as I’ve seen you. You still refuse to smile in battle. Careful~ You might not reach Elysium if you don’t smile!” Playful as always. Achilles couldn’t resist the chance to rub it in, he loved teasing people and Siegfried was always a good target.

Calling him quick on his feet would be both an understatement and an insult. He wasn’t just fast, he was the fastest the Achaean Army had, known for his prowess in the field! He was Swift-Footed Achilles! He’d never lost a race and he wasn’t looking to start now, not centuries after Troy and especially not to her who had yet to prove herself in Achilles’ eyes.

“Looking to make a fool of yourself in front of your people? Bold strategy.” The Hero grinned, shrugged and got up from his spot. “Alright, I shall take you on, Eivor. Don’t be too mad when I win.” There was a tone of pride in his voice, as expected of a vaunted warrior such as himself. There was a reason he was as legendary as he was now.

LATE NIGHT POSTING BUT I GOTTA GET THIS OUT OF MY SYSTEM.

So, it’s kind of an established fact in Fate that Achilles is heavily associated with stars. Specifially, comets or falling stars, due to how they burn brightly for a short period before dying out, which is kind of what Achilles did. He had a short but brilliant life. So, where am I going with this? Well, Homer did it first!

Homer, in the Iliad, describes the approach of Achilles toward Troy in these words:

Sirius rises late in the dark, liquid sky On summer nights, star of stars, Orion's Dog they call it, brightest Of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat And fevers to suffering humanity.

If that’s not the most metal and fitting thing I’ve read, well, idk what to tell y’all! Homer equates Achilles approaching Troy to being a dark omen, bringing suffering to humanity! Or in this case the Trojans! Plus, I love that Homer uses Sirius which is the brightest star in the night sky!

He’d swore he would protect Ritsuka, and if that meant fighting an army singlehandedly once more... Then he’d do it, he’d gladly do it if it means his master was safe. Even if he had to deploy the Kosmos, he’d do anything to keep them safe. He might as well have some fun while at it, he’d put on a show specifically for his fellow Rider. “Well!? And with that said, Achilles turned to face his enemies, he’d show them exactly why the Trojans feared him. He let out his war cry, a sound so terrifying that, upon hearing the brazen voice of Aristos Akhaion, all their spirits quaked -- His enemies were struck dumb when they saw that fire, relentless, terrible, burst from proud-hearted Achilles’ head, blazing as if bright-eyed Athena herself fueled the flames. True to his title of the fastest hero, he closed the distance in the blink of an eye, his god-like blows making short work of the enemies and hoped that, for once, the proud Pharoh listened to Achilles.
