Competing with Scrafty in a fighting tournament
TW:violence, emplied injuries
The last few months of training for the oncoming tournament had been rough for Scrafty. It would have loved to compete on the same league as larger and heavier fighting type pokémon, as those matches were often televised or broadcasted, and you had the habit of tuning in with Scrafty and some of your other friends to cheer and bet on the winners.
Unfortunately your companion couldn't put on enough bulk in time, so you signed yourselves up for a more suitable fighting tournament, exclusive to lightweight pokémon.
Granted, Scrafty resulted as a bit on the heavier side compared to the rest of the recorded partecipants, yet the pokémon seemed unwilling to let such advantage spoil the fun for it, on the contrary, it delighted in knowing that it's adversaries would of had to face it head on.
On the day of the tournament, upon arriving at the location, you spent your time motivating and practicing fighting moves with Scrafty, until the pokémon was called into the ring for it's first match. It's opponent was a naughty Croagunk.
The pokémon approached, exchanged leers and shaked each other's paws as the bell rang, but before Scrafty had the chance to disengage and get to it's side of the ring Croagunk pulled your friend towards itself, and delivered a dynamic punch between Scrafty's neck and shoulder, stealing away the pokémon's breath for a moment.
The crowd gasped at the scene, it was quite an unsportsmanlike start to a battle, Croagunk didn't appear to care at the time, and neither did it's coach or trainer.
In response, Scrafty opted on upsetting the pokémon's balance with a low kick, allowing itself to wriggle free of Croagunk's grasp.
As the frog-like pokémon regained it's footing, it conjured a ball of sludge and hurled it at your companion, you gasped as the mud stained Scrafty's skin-trousers, and the pokémon cried out in outrage at the sight.
Croagunk snickered at your friend's wounded pride and, upon seeing it's reaction, Scrafty charged it's adversary, tackling and slamming Croagunk onto the ring's corner.
From there on, the pokémon traded blows in close proximity to each other, and you had to get close and coach Scrafty thru the rest of the fight, in order to avoid getting your friend exposed to Croagunk's poisonous toxins.
Eventually, the smaller pokémon got knocked out, and Scrafty was declared the victor.
During the few hours of respite you were granted from a match, you worked on cleaning your friend's trousers, as it had become quite antsy about them, and tended to the pokémon, applying pultices of mixed healing berries to it's bruises and ensuring it drank the restoring potions you had brought along.
When Scrafty was called up to the ring once again, this time, a Hawlucha presented itself as it's opponent. The pokémon shook paws, and went to their respective sides of the ring. As the bell rang, Scrafty was ready to square up, but to it's surprise, Hawlucha started climbing up the ring's ropes amongst the cheers of the crowd.
You understood what the pokémon's intent was, and barely maneged to warn Scrafty in time, making it avoid Hawlucha as it launched itself at it's adversary, in an attempt to crush onto them with a flying press.
Taking advantage of the opening provided by Hawlucha's awkward positioning after it smashed into the ring, Scrafty tried to engage it's opponent in close combat, but Hawlucha kept Scrafty from approaching thanks to many consecutive cutting air slashes.
It is then, out of sheer annoyance and of it's genuine desire to carry on the battle, that your pokémon acted impulsively.
Scrafty dropped low, and bit down on the leg of it's adversary, causing the pokémon to flinch from pain and surprise, this allowed your friend to catch Hawlucha off guard, delivering a take down, and putting the struggling pokémon out of commission with an headbutt.
You and Scrafty carried on until you reached the semifinals, at which point you discovered your friend would've fought with a pokémon you knew little to nothing about, Marshadow.
Once you saw it get on the ring, however, your concern depleted, the pokémon was small and looked like the less threatening of all creatures, still, you knew that despite it's appearance, Marshadow couldn't be innofensive, and asked Scrafty not to underestimate it.
You then realized your advice was a severe understatement. Marshadow was the sneakiest, and yet most precise pokémon Scrafty ever had the chance to encounter, it's blows were near impossible to predict or even see coming, and Scrafty's rise thru the tournament's ranks abruptly ended.
Despite it's defeat, your pokémon was unwilling to go back home unless it could stay and watch the fighting tournament's finals, it wouldn't have standed it if it's loss had come from anyone else but the champion, and so you looked on as Marshadow gave show of all it's unrestrained strenght, and upon the little pokémon's victory Scrafty hurt your ears from how loud it cheered.
