So this post is a bit personal, I must admit, even though it's liveblogging... You see, I just realized that one of my best friends shares his first and middle names with Riker. I failed to realize this for ages because my friend goes by "Tommy," as per his middle name. So the fact went completely unnoticed until these 6 seasons in, when Riker's transporter duplicate shows up, and is referenced as "Thomas" in the wikipedia description to differentiate. Anyway, at first I was all like "dude that's crazy! How cool that Tommy is secretly a star trek character!" But then it sort of because way to personal, because as you may have been able to tell from this conversation even so far, Tommy wasn't really just a friend to me (although that was never mutual) and it sucks because we've grown significantly further apart and he's changed and he's kind of a dick now but every once in a while i still find myself regretting all the things that could've been if he just hadn't made other things more important. And so it really rings a little too true to hear Deanna talking about truthfully no longer wanting a relationship with "William thomas" but still occasionally looking up at the sky and just thinking about old william thomas, especially to a version of him that goes by his middle name...
