I plan on posting a lot more here therefore I want somewhere I can properly organize my page. I have tons of analysis ideas, theories and headcanons I want to talk about so here we are :)
Asks & Inbox
okay so I figured I should add onto here detailing what I answer/reply with for asks
What You Can Do:
ask questions/my opinions about sbg
request analyses
request headcanons & other creative writing
how I think specific ships would act
anything else you can think of that is NOT NSFW
I do ask that if you're asking for something you try your best to specify what you're looking for as a response because I'm a bit clueless and get stressed when I can't easily tell what people are after 😞

can you do an analysis on what you think is gonna happen to Taylor and Logan once they get to the facility?
Taylor & Logan S3 Predictions
This is less of like an analysis and more just what I think could occur with their pairing while in the facility & what I think would be cool to see.
Individually I really hope/think the separation could be huge for Taylor's character. I've talked about it on tiktok plenty of times but Taylor is arguably the least developed sbg teen. I love her but she doesn't really have much going on outside of events surrounding Tyler so I'm hoping she'll get an arc this season or we see her continue down the path of being more protective, distrusting, and shifting from a protector to a fighter.
I do believe we're going to get way more on Logan's & the Fields' backstory, especially if they're back with his grandparents in the facility. Since Logan expressed guilt for not killing Jasmine, I think being back in the facility opens the possibility for that guilt the worsen. This becomes more plausible when we think about the fact that Jasmine is waiting for HIM specifically.
Maverick & Jasmine are 100% going to use Logan & Taylor for their tests & experiments. Also considering it's mentioned just how much blood they already had taken from the kids, I believe Red is almost absolutely going to go this route.
One of my mutuals said this on tiktok but if anyone's going to be majorly injured this season I think Taylor could be a good candidate if Red wanted to use Logan's guilt over Jasmine. I think it could be a cool way to add more meaning to the scene where Taylor tells Logan he didn't need to be sorry.
I think they may have an 'easier' time at night (compared to the others) since they'll likely be able to reunite with their parents at some point. I do imagine however, that they'll have a difficult time during the day with Jasmine & Maverick.
I don't really have anything else to say, this isn't much of an analysis since there isn't anything to analyze yet. It's just a couple of plot ideas I think will happen/would like to see happen.

okok wait ima need to like make a post about asks and shit but i'm a bit slow so if youre gonna ask me about a duo or character (right now) i'd love if you could specify if you're asking for an analysis + my thoughts or just my opinion that'd be really helpful bc i'm scared of not answering asks correctly 😭
please make an analysis or something on why tyden (romantic and/or platonic) isnt toxic 🙏 my friend still thinks they are and it pisses me off 😭
Tyler & Aiden Friendship Analysis
While I of course could just make a post about why they aren't actually toxic as a duo I figured the easiest way to do that would just be to analyze their actual canon relationship so hopefully your friend can see the canon dynamic rather than the mischaracterized fanon one people seem to love pushing.
It would be way easier for me to do this if I had finished redoing Tyler's character analysis so I could reference that especially since I want to assume part of the reason your friend believes this is because they don't understand the characters in general.
Nonetheless, I wanted to make friendship analyses sooner anyway so here's the first one, do lmk who you'd all like to see after I write Tyler's analysis.
The way I intend on writing this goes as followed:
my thoughts/notes
a short summary of Tyler & Aiden's personalities separately
their canon development
The reason I include their personalities is because the way I see it, to be able to understand their duo you have to be able to understand them and where they stood at the beginning of the series vs the end (s2).
My Thoughts & Notes
I don't necessarily intend on writing these sections in each relationship analysis, but since it's based off an ask I have a few thoughts I want to share, along with some things from Red's story that I want to be able to reference.
Like I said above I can only assume the reason your friend believes they're toxic is due to a couple potential reasons. Either they don't understand the boy's characters and are one of the fans who act like Tyler hates everyone & Aiden only cares about Ashlyn. Or they don't think the boys are friends, neither of these statements are true.
Even without diving into the context of the comic we have this story from Red's insta talking about how the two of them (and everyone else) have become friends and how their "fights" have shifted into friendly bickering.
So even now, without actually writing anything, you can argue that they don't hate or dislike each other, since canonically they're friends.
Tyler Hernandez Personality
I figured I'd start with Tyler's, these won't be long since I (will) have separate analyses for each character.
I think the biggest misconception about Tyler's character is that he was harsh and unwelcoming because he hated the teens, when in reality, he simply believed he didn't have time for them. It's stated directly in the comic that Tyler saw friends as a distraction he didn't have time for. In fact, we've seen him push away anything he deems a waste of time (e.g., brushing off what occurred at the Sorrel Weed House).
Tyler in general is a very brash character who says what's on his mind and tends to avoid sugarcoating, but that doesn't mean he's heartless and hates them. Unlike how fans perceive him, Tyler's shown to care a lot about the people he loves, he's also fairly emotionally intelligent.
This is again stated in the comic but overtime he began to let others in. He began to enjoy their company, they went from distractions he couldn't give a damn about to people he loved and saw as family.
All in all, is Tyler harsh? Yes. Does he do it with the intent to cause unnecessary hurt to others for his personal gain? No. From where we're at in the story, he cares deeply about them and doesn't hesitate to put their safety over his own. (Ex. Him suggesting to Ashlyn (numerous times) that they should leave him behind [on the tree]).
To continuously say that Tyler doesn't care for anyone directly goes against words straight from the comic, I sincerely suggest that anyone who disagrees with my statement go and reread Season Two's preview considering the whole chapter fully explains Tyler's character.
Aiden Clark Personality
Since I already have an Aiden Analysis, feel free to go view it if you're interested in reading more of what I have to say about Aiden's character as a whole.
In the simplest way, there's basically two sides to Aiden; the side he doesn't want shown and the parts of himself he merges together to create a mask.
Despite how fans want to perceive him, Aiden cares a lot about the safety of everyone, after all, it's one of the few times we ever see him struggle/stop trying to keep up his act.
While his back and forth with Tyler started as fights and them poking jabs at each other due to mutual dislike, they eventually grew into friendly bickering.
Tyler & Aiden's Development
I'm breaking this up into sections (like how I've done my relationship charts if you've seen that tiktok).
Early Season 1 -> Ep. 1 to Ep. 24 (The Start)
Didn't get along at all
Aiden specifically states during the savanna trip that he doesn't care much for Tyler
It's at this point that Tyler majorly has no interest in making friends since (again) he has bigger priorities than that
Tyler also isn't one to dwell on things he thinks is bullshit (ex. him dismissing what occurred in the sorrel weed house), unlike Aiden who is super into thrills and seemingly paranormal stuff.
Aiden vaguely references this after Tyler says Ashlyn should've said something at the sorrel weed house, to which Aiden replies "Even if she had said anything, would you have believed her? With your personality I seriously doubt it." Tyler isn't one to be a skeptic, he's fairly straightforward whereas Aiden directly combats this with his lack of seriousness.
Most of their interactions here consist of Aiden saying/doing something and Tyler being annoyed at what he does/says. The only time it's really the other way around was the moment above in the cafeteria.
Mid Season 1 -> Ep. 25 to Ep. 43 (Jeep Run)
The jeep run is the turning point for both Tyler and Aiden (Ashlyn too but this isn't about her atm).
Even now their back and forth comments feel as if they're less fuelled by dislike and beginning to merge into friendly bickering. Of course it's not entirely like that but you can vaguely see the shift.
Now the biggest indicator in the jeep run is when Aiden yells out Ashlyn's name and Tyler goes down to check it out. While yes it's partially his way of protecting Taylor (who wanted to go herself) I do think part of him was also concerned since he could've easily ignored it but that's just not who he is as a person.
Something I didn't pick up on until rereading for this analysis is that Tyler didn't actually know why Aiden was trying to get onto the roof until AFTER he began helping him up. Even if he didn't know what Aiden's goal or motivations were, he was still willing to help him.
Is it a big moment? No, but it's the start of their development as friends and as individual characters. Tyler—who tends to brush off things that he deems a waste of time—willingly aids Aiden despite not being aware of what had occurred.
End of Season One/Start of Season 2 -> Ep. 44 to Ep. 61 (The Deaths)
After the jeep run is when Tyler begins to get along better with everyone (such as: him teaching Ben to play guitar, him supporting Logan, Ashlyn herself saying he's becoming nicer) it's only natural for him and Aiden to be on better terms now too.
"And while things were rough in the beginning, he eventually started to have fun with the others. Maybe even began to see them as family." (Ep. 49) I don't think I need to elaborate too much on this but let's not forget that these words occur at the same time Tyler is playing with Aiden and smiling. To say they don't care for each other by this point in the story would be far from true.
After Tyler's death, we see Aiden more exhausted and worried, even if he still is trying to keep his mask up. We know that whenever Aiden is alone he drops his smile & mask but even so, after Ashlyn left with Mike, Aiden was still with the others in the waiting room. There were people around him and he still didn't smile, not to mention his hands were shaking during that whole encounter.
Tyler's death did affect Aiden because not only is it just an insanely traumatic event, it happened to someone he cares about.
Not a lot occurred after Aiden's death (by that I mean reaction-wise) because they all knew he'd wake up, not because they cared any less for Aiden than they did for Tyler. There being a lack of reaction from Tyler wasn't due to him not caring for Aiden's well-being, but because Tyler already knew that Aiden was awake and recovered quicker than he did.
Mid Season 2 -> Ep. 62 to Ep. 83 (The Facility)
The Facility "arc" was more focused on plot and lore rather than the relationships but even so we still have a ton of friendship moments within season two.
To me, it's extremely obvious that their back-and-forth has essentially completely shifted from genuine jabs at each other to friendly bickering. Once again, bickering ≠ fighting because of hate/dislike. I playfully bicker with my friends all the time but that's just it, it's playful and not done with ill intent.
At this point in the story they aren't doing it to piss each other off, it's just what their friendship is built upon. Neither seems to take any real offence towards it and clearly has no issue being in each other's presence.
Take the cuddle pile for example. While I've seen way too many people try and dismiss this as a jealous Aidlyn moment (first of all what the fuck), all it truly shows is that they're all way closer than they had been beforehand.
Aiden kept his hand on Tyler's waist likely to try and be there for him the best way Aiden knows how, and Tyler didn't give a damn. He let him put his hand there.
Similarly—while he did hold his head off him when Aiden was drooling—in the long run Tyler did let Aiden's body lean on his while Aiden was passed out. Him kicking Aiden off the wheelchair wasn't an action done out of malice, that's just how their friendship is.
I think it's important to mention the moment when Aiden attacked Alex, because while yes, Ashlyn was the one who ended up being hurt, Aiden did not know that. He didn't know what happened to them or who it happened to, he just could sense the fact that something had happened to one of his friends.
I've said this so many times and I'll say it again, if he had known it was Ashlyn he would've acted the same way he did when he didn't know. Likewise, if the person who had been hurt had been someone else—in this example Tyler—he would've also acted the same way. He reacted like this for all of them because he didn't know who it was. It's not an aidlyn moment it's a moment demonstrating Aiden's protectiveness for the whole group (which includes Tyler).
End of Season 2 -> Ep 84 to 96 (The Escape)
Now beginning with the bridge scene where Aiden was dragging Tyler. It's important to note that Aiden had no intentions of getting Tyler harmed when doing this, he was—like Tyler said—too focused on getting an adrenaline rush. After that Aiden remembered the last time he unintentionally got his friend hurt and chose against it. Had Tyler gotten hurt because of him he would've felt terrible because that's a big part of Aiden's character. Guilt and care for his friends.
Aiden might not care about his own health and safety, but he cares immensely about the safety and well-being of his friends. It's why the only time we see him not smiling—other than him being alone—is when he sees his friend hurt.
And whenever he messes up and gets someone hurt he feels insanely guilty about it, likely the reason he still holds onto that rooftop moment. He wouldn't have put Tyler (or any of them) in a situation where he knew they would've gotten hurt, he was acting on impulse and re-evaluated.
Delving into the bathroom conversation because it's SUCH an important part of their development and Aiden's character and I truly believe it's being set up so that Tyler plays a major role in Aiden's development next season.
Tyler is the first person (that we know of) to notice Aiden's suicidal tendencies and try to bring them up to him. The only way for Tyler to have been able to deduce that they heal based on their mental state would be for him to have looked back on Aiden's behaviour. Tyler himself states that Aiden didn't care about dying, and that this was a pattern from the beginning. It's literally in writing that Tyler has spent time looking back and realizing Aiden never cared for himself or his own safety.
Did he do this to help figure out a major factor in the dimension? Absolutely, but it doesn't mean that he didn't care for Aiden's well-being. Aiden is his friend (even if fans don't seem the agree) and he's come to the realization that this person he's grown to like probably wants to die, that's a lot for anyone let alone a teen.
Another smaller moment is when they split up and Tyler finds Aiden, you can't tell me he doesn't care for Aiden when his first instinct is to ask him what happened and if he's okay. We are seeing the beginning of Tyler realizing that his friend probably isn't well and being there for him more.
I think their bond will be insanely important moving forward in season three with the conversation in Ep. 91 & the fact that they're paired together. I know Red asked for pairings but they seem like they have a stable foundation now and I hope to see this continue to move forward with this plot point of Tyler knowing about Aiden's struggles when the others have yet to realize it at the moment.
Final Thoughts
That's all!
I know I didn't really discuss why in particular it isn't a toxic friendship but I figured the only way I really know how to do that was to try to show that their actions and bond isn't rooted in mutual dislike but has now shifted into playfulness and humour.
It would be easier for me to go through points if I knew what exactly your friend's opinion and stances were but I hope this helps others realize they don't actually dislike each other anymore and care very deeply for one another.
I know you were talking about them romantically and/or platonically but I wanted to focus on the canon dynamics. However, I don't see how any of their bond (ship or friendship) would end up being toxic and detrimental to the other since their bickering doesn't have any negative impacts on one another. At this point in the story there's no mistreatment occurring between them because they aren't doing anything to purposefully harm the other. It's just unserious moments with one another that hold no real distaste.
If there was anything else anyone wants my stance/opinion on regarding them feel free to ask, if you want me to make a post on how I think they (or anyone) would act as a couple then feel free to ask about that too. I'm trying to work on my asks more so please feel free to ask me anything :)
The idea that Tyler and Aiden aren't friends/still don't get along, irritates me because 90% of the time this ideology comes from hardcore Aidlyn shippers. No hate to the shippers it's just incredibly hypocritical of them considering Ashlyn didn't like Aiden at the beginning either. Yet, like Ashlyn, Tyler began to grow and let the others in, slowly learning to enjoy their company. If you're going to say Tyler and Aiden don't like each other because of how they were in EARLY season one then you can't like Aiden and Ashlyn's friendship either, sorry. Unless you're okay with being a hypocrite then idk have fun 🤷🏻♀️
I know this is an anon ask but I totally ask for you to send me another when you get their opinion since I'm nosy 😋
i feel like i'll get harassed for this if I say it on tiktok but man I love platonic benlor more than I've ever liked them as a ship 😞
they just do best friends so well and I think people water down their friendship by making it solely romantic without actually paying attention to what they mean to each other
Before I get into the analysis I wanted to state a few things/give an introduction to the post. Firstly, since we only have so much of Aiden's backstory and character, a lot of this is me taking implications and sharing my interpretation of it.
Since SBG is still ongoing I'll likely come back and edit this post every so often once season 3 comes out and as his character progresses. I'll obviously edit this when we get his backstory as currently all we have is theories/implications.
In the past I've incorporated relationships in these analyses but I intend on doing these entirely separately (however you can find links to these posts at the bottom of this post or on my masterlist and ill add them as I write them)
Things I found important to note
Aiden's ADHD (canon - Red)
Aiden being suicidal (canon - story)
Aiden's attachment issues (canon - Red)
Aiden's implied depression
Aiden's implied neglect
Aiden's lack of social skills & boundaries
Aiden's self hatred
canon - story = confirmed through the comic
canon - Red = confirmed by Red on insta
anything implied is my interpretation of things Red has stated and/or things hinted through the comic
Aiden & Psychopathy
Feel free to skip this portion but I really want to talk about this because this interpretation of Aiden's character always really annoyed me. Especially since it couldn't be farther from the truth.
I know most people probably aren't serious with these claims but I have seen people say that they truly believe he's a sociopath (also ASPD). Most of the time it's based in sterotypes which are not only incorrect, but are harmful.
The biggest reason people may mix these up is because Aiden has ADHD (& likely depression) two diagnoses that share signs.
Reckless disregard for the safety of others or themselves
^ this isnt me claiming all people with aspd are inherently evil
Signs of ADHD:
Difficulty focusing
Restlessness
Talking a lot/Rambling
Impulsivety
Signs of Depression:
irritability
feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
insomnia
tiredness/lack of energy
changing appetite
restlessness
feelings of worthlessness or guilt
trouble concentrating
reoccurring thoughts of death & suicide
Now let's delve into it briefly.
The ONLY signs of ASPD Aiden actually has are impulsivity and reckless disregard for the safety of himself (and occasionally others). However, those can be chalked up to his other diagnoses.
Impulsiveness -> His ADHD, I don't feel like I need to delve into that, it's self explanatory.
Reckless endangerment -> Aiden simply doesn't care about his wellbeing, he doesn't care what happens to him because he doesn't care if he lives or dies. These instances can often occur in those with depression.
It's basically the idea of "Oh, I'm not planning on killing myself, but if I did die I'd be okay with it."
I say "(and occasionally others)" while thinking of the scene where he's going to pull Tyler to the edge of the bridge. In no way would Aiden choose to go out of his way to intentionally hurt Tyler but in that moment he was making an impulsive decision (to which he thought about it and realized he didn't want to hurt him).
And that's my biggest indicator that Aiden isn't a psychopath, he FEELS remorse, he blames himself for getting Ashlyn hurt. He feels guilt, he's able to feel guilt. He also very obviously feels concern for people.
I've seen people say he struggles with empathy but in my mind it's most likely he'd just be the type to use cognitive empathy rather than emotional empathy.
Even so, you can also chalk that up to his lack of knowledge on social situations, which is due to him being mostly isolated his whole life.
Anyway there's my little rant now onto the ACTUAL analysis.
Diving into Aiden's Psychology & Neglect
Due to the nature of his parents' work, Aiden hopped from place to place his whole life. He never stayed anywhere for long, not bothering to so much as remember the city names since he knew he wouldn't be there long enough for it to matter.
A multitude of studies say that children who move around a lot become more likely to develop depression later in life. They also are more likely to have difficulty with social situations.
(Theory ->) From the looks of one of his childhood rooms, Aiden would be left alone for long periods of time. Instant ramen, empty soda cans, and water bottles were scattered around his room. In that same panel, you can see a huge box full of ramen cups on the shelf, paired with two other boxes of the same size.
The way I see it, his parents were likely fully focused on their careers rather than their son so they often left him to fend for himself. When asked if his parents would notice a package being delivered, Aiden mentions that they wouldn't be home for months. The way he says it casually without any indication that it's out of the ordinary, (in my mind) only further proves my stance that they've left him alone before.
I've seen a lot of people theorize that they could be abusive but the way I see it they likely prioritized their work and ended up neglecting him. I feel that this is where his attachment issues developed, as more often than not, it stems from scenarios where a child's relationship with their parent isn't how it should be (in this case neglect).
Daniel mentioned Aiden was super quiet as a kid. Maybe he got to a point where he stopped trying to seek their attention and just retracted into himself and his depression. Maybe it was the isolation due to the neglect & lack of stability. There's a lot that's left unanswered at the moment.
-
I don't know enough about attachment issues to go insanely in depth about this but Red once said on Insta that Aiden's attached to Ashlyn (at the time of publication she wasn't sure if it was romantic or not, she has yet to say otherwise), and this is obvious, you can see it in their dynamic.
Aiden moved to Alto with the goal of finding a real friend (I'm gonna delve into this a bit later). Here he met Ashlyn, whom he characterized as someone who wouldn't get close to others unless they actually meant something to her. I've always taken this as him not just looking for someone he could form a bond with, but hoping to find someone who he would matter to. Wanting to be cared about in a way he had never been before.
Another sign of attachment issues is difficulties with boundaries, but I feel like I can tie this heavily into his isolation, ADHD, & lack of social skills.
Aiden mentioned two things I think are worth noting for this point. First, that due to moving around a lot he just casually talked to people passing by, no one who cared about him and no one he knew long enough to care about. Second, he was still getting used to the whole boundaries concept.
The biggest thing I feel like I should reiterate (but probably don't need to) is that Aiden didn't push into Ashlyn's bubble with any ill intentions, he was doing it because he wasn't mentally able to notice and pick up on the cues that she wanted space. Not being able to pick up on social cues is also a huge sign of being neurodivergent.
In general, I think this issue could also be heavily due to being isolated and not having anyone to teach him what to do and what not to do. It wasn't a prevalent issue for him because he didn't have anyone around him whom he needed to worry about.
This is also one of his biggest developmental points. As mentioned above he tells Ashlyn that he still doesn't fully understand the whole concept of boundaries, however, him pulling back and worrying about being too close, shows that he's actively trying to work on it. He cares about the people around him and doesn't want to be the reason they're uncomfortable.
-
Shifting away from his attachment issues I want to discuss his implied depression and canon suicidal tendencies/ideation.
While I could delve into why specifically I believe Aiden's non-confirmed diagnosis is depression, I want to talk about his suicidal thoughts & tendencies first then more into the signs of depression I see in Aiden.
Starting with his "So that's what it feels like." comment. While I've seen many people interpret it in many different ways, the way I always saw it was Aiden referring to him dying.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we got THAT specific panel where little Aiden is lying alone in bed. In my mind, he was thinking directly back to a moment in his life where he was actively thinking about dying.
Suicidal ideation doesn't always mean "I'm gonna kill myself". It could be someone hoping that they go to sleep and don't wake up in the morning, or thinking about walking into oncoming traffic so they could get hit and die that way. It probably could include "I'm going to jump off this 13-foot wall and hope that the fall is far enough to kill me."
You see where I'm going with this?
Now we also have this major dialogue point from Aiden's conversation with Tyler:
Tyler -> "You didn't care about dying at all did you? Even from the beginning you-"
Aiden -> "[...] but I didn't want to actually die."
Aiden's phantom "conscious" -> "LIAR."
Followed by Aiden immediately brushing it off and getting out of the situation before Tyler can continue pressing him on the topic.
While Tyler took weeks to recover, Aiden only took a couple of days, because dying didn't affect him. He wasn't negatively impacted by it because he had finally gotten what he wanted. He did what he had always done, brushed it off, and acted like it was fine.
There's a recurring theme with Aiden where whenever he's vulnerable about something or stuck in a situation where he feels cornered he'll do what he can to push it aside and act like he's unaffected. For example his conversation with Ashlyn in front of the family photo, him hiding his injury on the run for the jeep, and him right after he died.
This isn't to say he's never been vulnerable in front of them. Take the time Ashlyn got hurt during the jeep run, or his apology after that (even though he was still keeping up a facade). The biggest time was when Tyler died, even if he kept a smile after they got him down, he was still terrified. He was also openly scared in the hospital waiting room.
The common action even in these situations is to revert to his act whenever he can. He tries his best to hide how he feels, and there could be a plethora of reasons for this but again reminder, I'm making this with crumbs of his backstory.
^ I go into this a bit more farther down.
Turning away from the suicide aspect I wanted to highlight acouple smaller things I’ve noticed throughout the story that could help further my idea that the backstory spoiler diagnosis could be depression.
Changing appetite -> I’ve noticed through the story (specifically season one) there’s various instances where Aiden just doesn't eat at all during lunch, instead opting to play with the food.
Insomnia -> I feel like this one is self-explanatory but while his eye bags could be—and probably are—a huge indicator that he doesn't sleep as well as he should. There’s also the fact that in most sleeping/night panels he’s almost always awake during them. With the exception of the cuddle pile in season two.
-
Circling back to the jeep run, let's talk about Aiden's guilt, because no one really talks about it despite it being a huge part of his character (in my opinion).
We’re all aware of what occurred, his actions got himself injured, leading to Ashlyn being grabbed by the phantom. While no one held it against him, we know that he internalized that guilt. When pulling Tyler to the edge he remembers that moment in particular, thinking back to a time he got his friend hurt. He still feels immense guilty about that.
This was also the big event that began the turning point for all the characters, so it's understandable that whatever he was feeling in this moment would be something that stuck with him.
It's clear in the way he kept apologizing—both on the roof and in the school—that it’s an event that Aiden feels deep remorse and guilt over. In general Aiden likely struggles with self-worth which would, in turn, fuel the flame.
-
Another thing I've noticed is Aiden's lack of trust/vulnerability, which can be a product of his neglect, self-hatred, and depression.
At this point in the series, Aiden remains the only teen who has yet to let the others in. I think a lot of things can factor into this. You could say that his neglect led him to feel as if he's better off not telling people what's wrong and/or internalizing it. It could have something to do with his lack of trust, maybe he feels as if he can't trust his friends with this because his trust was broken before.
While those are mostly speculation my main thought is that it likely just has to do with the fact that there are a ton of people with depression who simply hide it or don't want to let others see this side of them. There could be a multitude of reasons for this. Maybe he's using his humour mask as a way to try and combat the feeling or maybe he just doesn't want to burden others. Maybe he feels like he's not worth the help and would rather try to make others feel better.
There's also a huge likelihood that he doesn't want to show he's depressed because he either doesn't want to be defined by it or doesn't want it to be a part of his image, and that's the one I want to try and lean towards since I feel like Aiden's self-hatred could play a huge role in his character when you think about it.
I know a lot of this stuff is speculation or I'm not giving straight answers but that's since we truly don't have any. We've been inside Aiden's head twice and only one of those times had dialogue. We actually have no real idea as to why he thinks and works the way he does or what exact things occurred to make him this way. A lot of this was just me trying to shed light on all the things that COULD be occurring in his head.
I'm also in no way a professional (obviously) and I don't deal with really any of these so I couldn't write this analysis the way someone with these disorders or struggles could. A lot of what I'm saying is surface-level information I've researched about the topics at hand. If anyone has further insight into these topics please do feel free to educate me further so I can learn more and can improve on this analysis as the comic progresses.
Aiden's Self Hatred & The Mask
This is getting its own section solely because I'm tying in a whole separate theory/analysis to this at the end. I wasn't sure if I should've included this in the psychology section or the development section so I decided to give it its own part so I could really go into why I think it could be a big part of his character.
I’ll start with the biggest example of this, which is his reaction to the picture of himself as a kid.
“I don't like that picture.”
I didn't take that as him saying that the picture is bad, instead, I feel like it's his way of saying “I don't like the me in that photo.” The depressed, alone, and dark parts of him. The part of him he desperately tries to hide from everyone around him. He crafted a whole mask to hide that part of him. Going to great lengths to put a gap between that aide of him and the side of him he presents himself as. Bleaching his hair and putting in red contacts, making physical changes to bridge a gap between his mask and himself.
In the bathroom scene he dropped the mask completely, while it was definitely due to being alone and not having the others around him (before Tyler walked in), I think the symbolism behind it is interesting. It's in that specific moment we see his roots growing back in, we see him take out his contacts. We’re seeing the parts of Aiden he’s trying to hide seep into his persona.
I think that in the next season, we’re going to get more of this, we’ll hopefully get to see him more vulnerable and open with Tyler or one of the others. I don't think this is a far-off assumption as we have literally been watching his mental decline throughout the entire series.
Season One -> During the start of the series Aiden’s mask is strong, rarely dropping it at all. There were only two instances of this (that I can make note of).
The first being the first day of school. After trying to start up a conversation with Ashlyn—and it being cut short—we see him frown in his seat. No one actually talks about this and most people forgot it happened entirely but it was the first time we see him drop the mask when no one is looking.
I already discussed the second, that being the time when he got Ashlyn hurt. He was scared, he felt responsible, and was probably incredibly stressed out. It's of note that the moments we see Aiden completely vulnerable around the others are when someone he cares about is hurt.
Season Two -> The kids just kept enduring event after event, so it's no wonder that the stress and trauma began to build up and seep out.
Aiden is in a vulnerable state in the hospital and when they find Tyler on the tree (as explained above). Then he ends up dying that same night, even if he puts his mask back on right after, we see him vulnerable and unfazed by dying. Later in the season we see the moment I discussed above where him and Tyler talk and we see Aiden growing even more exhausted than he would previously show.
I don't think it's a long shot to assume we might see him spiral next season or watch his mental state continue to plummet and crack the mask he wears.
My Phantom/Consciousness Theory
Once again this is a THEORY but it directly ties into Aiden's self hatred so I felt like discussing it.
You know the phantom versions Aiden and Tyler see trying to kill them? I think they could be an extension or personification of their consciousness. Take Tyler's for example, his phantom has his guts hanging out, showing that his death still haunts him.
But Aiden's phantom has no head injury, instead it looks exactly like how Aiden would if he didn't make those physical changes. Also think about the way that we got "Liar." from THE PHANTOM. In that same panel the phantom has it's fingers on his face, it's literally forcing Aiden to smile.
Now think of it like this, Aiden is quite literally dreaming of the parts of himself that he hates/tries to keep hidden trying to kill him. He's fully in a battle with his own consciousness.
I intend on doing a whole analysis/theory post on this separately but I wanted to leave this here.
Aiden's Personality
Caring & Compassionate -> There are SO many instances where Aiden’s concerned for another’s well-being or where he tries to comfort someone however he knows. Which is why I hate when people talk about Aiden and act like he’s someone who is obsessed with Ashlyn and doesn't care for the others when he’s an incredibly caring person.
Like yes, he was worried for her when she got hurt, yes he tried to comfort and reassure her in the hospital, but he also attacked Alex without hesitation because he knew something happened to ONE OF his friends. Or the cuddle pile in s2 where he puts his hand on Tyler’s waist, probably in an effort to be there for him. The really irritating thing about these scenes is that everyone constantly waters them down to Aidelyn scenes, therefore, watering down his entire character.
Adventurous -> Self-explanatory, he’s always searching for something to do (mostly for the adrenaline) but regardless. I’d also say all his interests make me think of a very adventurous person.
Loyalty & Protectiveness -> Like the example I said above, Aiden is EXTREMELY loyal to those he loves. Once again, he strangled Alex for his FRIENDS. He would genuinely go extremely far for them and would stand by their side through anything life (Red) throws at them.
Selfless -> While this definitely has something to do with his lack of self-care, he constantly puts the safety and well-being of others above himself. He didn't care when something happened to him but the moment it happened to someone else he was there.
Adaptable -> I don’t think we talk about just how quick Aiden adapted to the phantom dimension. The very first night he grabbed one of the first things he could (a cleaning spray) and used it against a phantom. The night the phantom entered the bus (for the second time) he was able to create a plan to help get Ashlyn out from under the seats, grab ahold of the phantom, and stick it through the window. He adapts extremely quick to the dangerous situations around him and I don't think people discuss just how intelligent he really is.
I think people forget that his immaturity doesn't equal his intelligence since it’s a major part of his “sunshine boy” mask. Aiden is THE funny friend, but underneath that he seems fairly intelligent.
Blunt -> Aiden has made fairly blunt comments but it’s not out of malice, nor is it near the level that Tyler does it. A lot of neurodivergent people struggle with knowing what’s acceptable to say in certain situations due to not always being able to pick up on the social cues. Also can be brought back to his lack of social knowledge as a whole.
Impulsive -> I’m not going into this for a fourth time, refer to everything above.
Self Destructive -> Same as above.
“Fearless, Funny, Immature.” -> I put these in quotes because to me, they encompass the personality he crafted into his mask. Although I think it's less that he’s fearless and more that he doesn't care.
Like I said above Aiden hides behind the common funny friend persona, he hides his feelings and sense of self behind humour.
Now immaturity is an interesting one, because while he says and does stupid shit I think it's mostly to further his act. We’ve seen him make smart choices and being serious when it’s truly needed. It’s not that he can’t be serious, it’s probably that since his life is so miserable as it is, he’s trying to compensate with unseriousness. Trying to bring light into dark places even if his mind is filled with that same darkness.
Aiden's Development & Plot
I won’t lie I’m not exactly sure how I’m supposed to go about wording this section but we're going to go with the flow and hope it turns out decent.
-> Aiden starts the series as a kid who's pushy and has no concept of personal space. Throughout the series, we see (and he directly says) that it's something he's trying to work on. The concept of boundaries and personal space wasn't something he was familiar with, but despite that, he wanted to work on it, he wanted to be better. Becoming someone Ashlyn and the others could be comfortable around.
-> While his impulses will always be something he’ll struggle with, it’s another thing he’s working on. Before the group & Ben, he didn't have to be cautious of how his actions would have direct impact on the people around him because there weren't people around him to be impacted. During season two we see that he’s learnt how to pause and think things through before following through with the action. It might’ve taken a moment for him to pause but it's a start.
-> Emotionally it’s a little hard to pinpoint the exact course of his mental state but we see that as time progresses his mask begins slipping. I imagine this is mostly due to the stress and trauma mixing with his already horrible mental state, and considering stress directly impacts depression. I don’t think it's crazy to assume the reason his mask keeps slipping is due to the fact he’s growing too exhausted to keep it up when the situation is evoking such harsh emotions in him. It’s also possible that he’s grown close enough to the others that he’s growing comfortable and feels safe enough to know that they won't give him shit for it. Although, there's the fact that he still brushes it off whenever he can, showing that while he might feel safe with them, he still doesn't want to open up.
There’s definitely way more development but I feel like I highlighted some of the major aspects of his character throughout the whole thing and I lwk don’t feel like writing more because this is already so incredibly long.
-> thank you for reading!!
This took like two days to write & you can go watch my edit on tiktok that goes with this if you'd like (same user as here)
I've made analyses before but they were a lot more simple than this one which is why I chose to redo them.
I want to delve into the psychology of the characters more because it's the biggest thing that interests me.
Once again if you have any insight into the psychology and disorders feel free to share it and educate me farther.
Similarly, please do let me know your thoughts on this and your own opinions. I'd love to hear people's ideas about what we might expect from Aiden's backstory since half of this is assumptions/my personal interpretation of what we have so far.
If you finished reading this thank you for reading, I’m doing Tyler’s next because my lovely tiktok moot said they couldn't wait for tyler’s and i’m a people pleaser so

I really think this fandom doesn't focus on the bio family/platonic bonds/found family side of things enough. There's SO MUCH going on! A few things that I would love to see people talk about more when it comes to character relationships include:
- The twins complex dynamic (and honestly their whole family). Like they're polar opposite and so protective (and kind of reliant to an extent) on eachother. For starters, Tylers protective of Taylor due to his past trauma and the fact that since his father has died he has had to step up as a carer for his mother and to some extent sister. From the start we see that they hate being without eachother. Would love to see how they cope in season 3 and maybe some separation anxiety representation.
- The Clark cousins!!! Lily and Aiden have seen Ben at his lowest, when his anger issues were at his worse. They've heard him speak and watched him go from a boy who loves singing to someone who can't even stand his own voice. It's hinted Aiden actively helps Ben with his anger (which I would love to see scenes with). I'm so sure that Ben has seen Aiden at his worse aswell and I would love that to be built on. The Phantom Realm is gonna have a big impact on Lily's development I can see it now 😭
- Mike Banner. My man UPGRADED THE JEEP so he could bring Ashlyns entire friend group around. He teaches them self defense and even lowkey planned and hosted Lilys bday part. He is practically their father figure at this point.
- Just how the entirety of the main 6 act around eachother. Due to the shared trauma they have warmed up to eachother in what I have gathered is a very short amount of time (as in a few months). Everything has escalated drastically, Tyler's death, Aidens death and the facility catching them was all within like 3 days, if that. Now that they're split up I cannot see them coping well.
There's so much more I could yap about!!! I really feel like this fandom over focuses on ships. Like as long as your not being weird about it, that's fine, but also take advantage of the crazy dynamics and non romantic relationships Red has laid out for you guys! Your truly missing out.
I hate how inconsistent the tpn colouring is. Why is pepe getting paler with each art? Why is sandy tanned one minute but paper white the next? ZACK AND PAULA TOO? Zack is definitely more consistent in colouring BUT PAULA? She's said to be tanned but in an offical art her colour pick IS LITERALLY WHITE, barelt even an off white?? Don's like Zack where he hasn't been white washed but the colour is inconsistent.
Not to mention the anime vs manga differences. DOMINIC GOT A WHOLE NEW COLOUR PALETTE? Bro went from having pink hair n being darkskinned to having white hair n being white? Mark's hair went from blue to brown, Norman's manga hair keeps flipping from white to a very light blonde. Alicia's hair in the manga is WAY more of a dark yellow than the anime.
Im tryna make colour pallets on procreate for everyone but holy shit what is this mess.
yall think aiden and ben actually abuse doordash? like you walk into their room (i headcanon they share a room) and you just see a small trash can filled to the brim of like wingstop bags or something 😭 or when they have group sleepovers they secretly order doordash in the bathroom for just the two of them but they get an insane amout of food which ends up being divided between the group LMFAOO
Hear me out, SBG The Promised Neverland AU BUT they're kids in goldypond. Starting out in Grand Valley.
Since to my knowledge its a few kids that get sent each month I'll split it into 3 shipments. Taylor and Logan just being shipped out. Ashlyn and Tyler were there the longest, the others they got shipped with are dead. A couple months at most. Aiden and Ben being shipped the month prior. Mike being the father figure like Lucas was.
