THEYRE SO CUTEEEE
The have to be touching anytime they’re together or they explode
One argument against mileven that always makes my head spin is the assertion that they’re “just another basic straight ship,” or that they’re “boring,” or “predictable.”
There’s nothing simple, basic, or heteronormative about mileven.
We have two kids who fell for each other in the midst of an inter-dimensional fallout and unmasked government conspiracy, despite the fact that one was almost entirely non-verbal and the other was racked with insecurities.
Mike is an outcast; a skinny nerd with no desire to pursue sports, or cars, or anything else traditionally masculine. He even refers to himself as Lois Lane, giving the title of Superman to his girlfriend. He’s an excellent portrayal of quiet, non-toxic, non-traditional masculinity. Within his relationship with El, he takes on the traditionally “feminine” role of the gentle, patient supporter, and he does so without second thought or grudge.
El on the other hand is otherworldly. Not super feminine, she treads her own path, acquiring both masculine and feminine traits as she grows into herself. She’s a rebel, a scrappy fighter, and a challenger. If she was allowed to participate in sports, she make one hell of a competitive athlete. In her relationship, she’s the decision maker, and the protector.
Not one of the main ensemble are conventional, and Mike and El are no exception. They complete each other. They do more than push the boundaries of typical relationship expectations — they completely subvert them.
That’s what this whole show is about! Outcasts doing outcast things! No one, not even Steve or Hopper, matches what their archetypes expect of them. It’s beautiful, and Mike and El are a part of it.
Mike saying “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?” Repeatedly to his girlfriend in her lowest moments and “what!? What is this!?” When all she said is she wants him to say I love you- and then he doesn’t tilll his best friend lies to him and pushes him to say it…. When he gets dumped by El and he says he doesn’t know what he did and women are just a different breed…. the gentle patient supporter?
Grow up and get off the mileven tag. I’m not interacting with this or any other byler who spreads their negativity here.

Hi Mileven friends! In case anyone is going stir crazy waiting for the next volume, I wanted to share my most recent (and possibly final 😢) stranger things fic. This is my take on how Mike may have give El the infamous promos ring

This tweet really opened my mind 👀
Now we know where Mike took the idea of an orange mohawk.
Okay but this is now my headcanon. Orange Mohawk!

I wish people would stop tagging things as anti-mileven. It’s just going to show up in the “mileven” tag. Like I fear they’re doing it on purpose to upset people, start fights and clog up the mileven tag, aaand I’m not going to engage in any arguments, but please. For f*cks sake. Tag things appropriately.
This goes for milevens tagging anything as “anti-byler” just STOP. Let fans talk about fan things, let people create a safe space for themselves. We are all on here to escape real life, find a community and have fun, stop making it insufferable!
Tagging everyone in the fandom so hopefully this message gets out. Let’s be respectful.

my woke take about st5 is that i feel like all the female characters this season are sort of, very much being sidelined.
maybe i’m just reading into it too much but to me it does feel a bit weird the direction in which ALL of the female characters are being treated this season.
like take nancy, for example - for the past four seasons she’s been this super strong, independent, fierce young woman and she takes a leading role in all her endeavours. this season she was reduced to the stancy/jancy love triangle? her parents were brutally attacked and somehow the love triangle was still at the forefront of her characters conversation.
robin, she’s always been a great character but for some reason is always reduced to further developing a male character? her entire character in season 3 is focused around steve and developing + redeeming steve. now, in season 5 again she’s being reduced to developing will’s arc???
joyce has lost genuinely all her personality, all she does is baby will this season?
el is completely isolated from the others?? even though she is integral to the fight against vecna? and don’t get me started on the online el vs will debate (REEKS of misogyny)
max and holly i guess are sort of safe in this sense but even max and holly… idk its nice i guess…
i might be being a bit too woke but i just find it a bit weird like its a male dominated show as is why are the few women we have being sidelined?
Oh my god THANK YOU! I’m so glad to find someone who shares my opinion. I’ve been disappointed since thanksgiving because all the women of the show, who have previously imo been written well (with the exception maybe of Joyce or Robin), have all fallen incredibly flat in favor of male storylines. I hope this is remedied in the final half of the season, but I don’t have much hope. (But still hoping I’m proven wrong)

we need to talk more about the fandom experience of "I actually do like the idea of these two characters together and think it would have been an interesting direction for the show to have gone in, but unfortunately everyone who openly ships them is so exhaustingly unpleasant about it that it's barely even enjoyable to engage with the fandom at large anymore so the ship itself is now ruined for me"

for the love of god stop tagging anti mileven things as just "mileven"
"anti mileven" and "mileven critical" tags exist for a reason. people come to the plain "mileven" tag looking for fancontent and positive analysis of mileven
Goddamn it it has become so hard for me to log onto this website and just get fics, fanarts, and edits for the ships I like due to all this dunking and tag cross-contamination.
It's been this way since season 3. Take me back to 1 & 2
Tired of certain people in this community not understanding fandom etiquette. On twitter they actively seek people out who talk about mileven, and vise versa. It’s extremely rude and disruptive, and to tag a different ship in a post bashing that ship or in a post about a completely separate one is deliberately disrespectful.
Let’s all grow up, please.
“What’s that old expression?”
I feel like my life started that day we found you in the woods. You were wearing that yellow Benny's Burgers T-shirt. And it was so big, it almost swallowed you whole. And I knew right then and there, in that moment, that I loved you. And I've loved you every day since.
This will never not give me chills.
hc that El gets called out for fucking up idioms enough times that she starts doing it on purpose out of spite, and eventually Mike starts playing along and over the years they build up an increasing complex series of inside jokes that they blindside people with in conversation

One reason I see people bring up for hating Mileven is Eleven getting a traditional happy ending, marrying Mike and building a life together, maybe even a family, would somehow be a bad ending for her or it would somehow ruin her character.
I even saw someone begging for El to be freed from this ending she was going to become a slave or something.
I noticed that in recent years, the idea of characters, especially women, getting married and living out their lives peacefully has been villainised. In a lot of cases, when done poorly, there is merit to that. Nobody likes to see their inspiration suddenly throw away what defined them just to be a house wife.
But that's not the case with Eleven.
Eleven never got a normal life. She never knew peace for most of her childhood. She was osrochised and isolated for most of her life, not finding any solice even in the children trapped in the Lab with her.
Time and time again, we see Eleven at her happiest when she is with her friends and family, doing things a normal hirl should be doing. Exploring the house with Mike. Eating Eggo Extravaganzas with Hopper. Going to the Snowball with Mike. Throwing a suprise party for Dustin. Kissing and just hanging out with Mike. Going on a shopping spree with Max. Exchanging letters with Mike. Watching Mike goofing off. Trying to force-feed Mike pizza. Just seeing Mike puts a smile on her face.
Eleven is never happy when she has to fight, whether it be monsters or the government. The show thas made it very clear that El just wants to feel normal. She doesn't want to have to fight anymore. She just wants to live a peaceful life where she can be happy.
And more than likely, that life will be spent with Mike, the one who turned her from a number to a person. The one who has stuck by her side. The one who saw the girl before the powers.
Eleven has a right to choose what makes her happy.
If a life with Mike by her side makes her happy, then I don't see what's so wrong with that.
Mike and Eleven Reunite || Stranger Things 5.01
This reunion makes me think that maybe they’re only able to see each other during crawls. They have to sneak away to the rooftop just to get any semblance of alone time. That’s Why El asks him about running away, and happy endings. GOD please let these two get their storybook ending ♥️
