           Feet tracking grass before he finds his way to a            footpath, legs pumping in lax routine but head, ob-            viously, high in the sky.  Jude runs right into an in-            nocent pedestrian, his hands shooting out in half-a-            pology, half-steadying attempt.

                        “Shit.  Sorry.  You alright?”

          Usually it was Penny’s fault in these predicaments ,           and rather than ( l o o k i n g ) up she kept her head down           as if everyone’s eyes were those of Medusa’s -- only she           WISHED she would turn into stone. 

              -- but now she’s curious as to what the hell                was so eye catching that he kept his eyes               g l u e d  up there.

                                     “M’fine , no bruises ... ”

                                              she paused as she looked at the                                                taller man skeptically   

     “Oh these ol’ things ( ??? ) ---”

                    they glanced down at their evenly bedazzled crocs.
