31. What’s your ideal fic length to write?

I feel like I wanted to be able to write 20k's while realising I probably wouldn't be capable of much more than 10k's. But honestly I have surprised myself these past few months. Hand it over wasn't as nearly as painful as I thought it would be, and I'm planning more in that verse. Chaptered works still scare me though.

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Answered this here as well but I will give a couple of specific examples:

1. gale and John climbing in through John's window in life finds a way is something me and my best friend growing up used to do. It is the same window

What's JOHN going through, hmm? So he died. That's established. Shortly after he finds out there's an afterlife and he's hit by this... euphoric idea that maybe he and Gale have a shot here. He can do it right this time, Gale won't shut him out, and they can be together FOREVER. Suck on that, Marge! And he immediately decides that's his course of action. It tides him through the seven days. And thennn the doubt comes. What if Gale doesn't want him. What if Gale was sad and grieved and missed him for a couple of years maybe and then just fucking forgot about him. What if there's someone else he'd rather share his afterlife with --- what if it's Marge?

AND THE DOUBT DOESN'T GO AWAY. FOR FORTY-FIVE YEARS. He's stuck between these poles of jubilation and despair, and that's not even starting on all the baggage he accumulated about this when he was alive. He is Very Fragile when Gale shows up. It's probably a good thing he gets taken by surprise. And it means after the reunion, he is incredibly insecure. What does that look like, you ask? Oh, all sorts of things. Digging at Marge out of nowhere and over the most innocuous stuff. Asking about Gale's exes in bad faith. Fawning on Gale in bed, to the extent Gale's almost angry, almost in tears with it, going 'c'mon John let me touch you' etc etc. A bad temper. A sickeningly pitiful response when he comes back to apologise after a tantrum. Clinging. Refusing to talk about anything in between flight school and Gale's death. And on and on.

It's not all the time, but it's enough of the time to be an issue. Gale's response to most of these is to suck air in through his teeth and count to ten. Because it IS frustrating. They're spending eternity together for crying out loud. But as frustrated as he is, he's also very sorry about it all, and he has endless reserves of patience for trying to make things right. He becomes SO physically and verbally affectionate trying to soothe Bucky --- Bucky gets to hear he is loved at least once a day. And Gale gets him little presents, and writes him little notes --- Gale Cleven is the ultimate loverboy, lest we forget.

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)?

I can't not shout out can't shake this superstition by @secretpersona8. 70s setting, sinister magic, shadowy experiments, espionage, yearning --- it's like it was expressly made for me 😭 and I am very excited for the big law buckies from them as well.

17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?

Answered this here too, but I have something else I can say! I don't know if it counts as niche, but I've recently been toying with a buffy one where John is sweet chatty loml buffy and gale is a mix of Kendra/Faith. Kendra's discipline and sweetness and snark, and Faith's absolute lack of impulse control and terrible decision-making insofar as slayage is concerned (thinking about how irl Gale Cleven sounds like a tyrant to fly with lol)

(in this verse I think Curt's closest match is probably Oz --- because he's so freaking chill. no one else in buffyverse is chill. I always thought buffy and him would make a really good couple anyway)

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

Hand it over was hard. It just gets so bleak in terms of Bucky's inner narrative and general sense of self-worth. I drop him right at the very bottom of the well without a ladder and that did affect me in ways I didn't foresee. I dealt with it by having multiple things on the go which seems to have been the correct call. Hand it over getting you down? Have a refreshing dip into life finds a way!

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

Answered this here as well, but I will try and scrounge up something new to say! I do a lot of short stories. Like, condensing a memory down and telling it briefly as an aside to the main fic. I do do that.

4. What detail in life finds a way are you really proud of?

I THINK that in anyway, it's about old friends I did a okay job of balancing their respective experiences, even with the Gale POV restricting what we could learn of John's. That was the thing that made me underconfident at the eleventh hour and I worked on it. Hopefully it came through.

17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?

Hmm this is an interesting question for me as I feel I tend to gravitate towards broader concepts when I'm writing... I'm not sure if I'm capable of something too niche myself!
