See I think it’s fascinating because I think the answer of whether they turn around or not depends on what part of their story you’re looking at? I feel like the same could be said for any character, though. Maybe that’s the whole point. 🤯

It shocks him, almost, how easy it is to say it.
John straightens, turns, an open question in the slant of his brows, shock somewhere.
Gale says “John” again, just because he can. It feels like a secret in his mouth, the word heavy like a marble against his tongue; cold and round, something he might choke on if he swallows.
