…Okay, this one’s definitely gonna make me some enemies, but: Fuck it.

ABORTION IS NOT A “CONTROLLING WOMEN” ISSUE, IT’S A “WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN” ISSUE!!!

Now, before you start throwing tomatoes, let me make one thing perfectly clear. I do not believe that either side; Pro-Choice or Pro-Life; is wrong. It’s a very gray issue, and I’m on the fence about what I believe myself. I Do however, think that REASONS for those sides can be wrong.

Abortion is not okay because you are “ending the life an unborn child”. Those are your words.

But a person who has been raped is still carrying an unborn child. Why is it okay for them to end the child’s life? Why is it okay to end the life of an unborn child just because the mother would suffer? 

While the picture looks wholesome, and I’m sure they are nice people, let’s just remember:

- Adoption is an alternative to parenting, abortion is an alternative to being pregnant

- Pregnancy and giving birth is more dangerous than having an abortion

- Not everyone wants or is physically or financially able to go through 9 months of pregnancy and hours of hard labor

- Giving up a baby for adoption can be very traumatizing for a mother

If you’re anti-abortion, then you’re anti-equality and anti-human rights.

When you are driving a car, there is a chance you could get in a car accident and need medical help. By your logic, since I consented to driving the car, I'm also consenting to the bodily harm done to me in an accident. So I should receive no medical care, since I obviously knew what I might be getting myself into.

Personally I don't care about early termination but after 6-10 weeks the fetus starts to develop brain waves and has a heart beat.

At this point the issue is whether we should be able to kill out of convience.

Consent to sex is not consent to pregnancy.

Consent to driving is not consent to getting in a car crash.

Consent to swimming is not consent to drowning.

You have to give consent to donate blood or organs, even if they would save someone’s life. If you die, and you haven’t previously consented to being an organ donor, no one can legally take your organs and use them for someone else. 

The fetus is using the pregnant person’s organs to sustain itself. If the pregnant person has not consented to this, and you deny them the right to terminate that pregnancy, then you are giving the fetus more rights than the person whose organs it is using. You are giving the pregnant person less rights to their own body than a corpse. 

Regardless, if bodily autonomy is so important, why does the fetus not have it?

So if you are admitting fetuses are human, then abortion is murder. The only different is that it is legal, which makes it legal murder. And I didn't respond to your particular post because I have fought the same Argument time and time again. And there is such a difference between not donating an organ and physically having the human being inside of you killed. Such a difference. If you can't see that, I'm not the one undermining pregnant people. And I use social media as a part in my fight against abortion. I also volunteer in a hospital, (NICU and surgical recovery room), work at a therepuatic riding stable for kids, work with our local foster system to plan birthday parties and raise money for supplies for 80+ children, and am going on 2 church mission trips this summer. I think birth control should be accessible and that would help unplanned pregnancies, but the only true way to prevent pregnancy is abstinence, and if I promoted that, I would be "a bitch for telling me what to do with my body." (One of the comments I received last week.

In both cases, one human is using the other's body to sustain it's life. There is no difference. Why should pregnant people have less rights to their body than corpses?

If you can't understand that, then no further argument is needed since you can't grasp the concept of bodily autonomy. I'm not sure how my understanding of the concept 'undermines pregnant people'.

Legal abortion may never change. I'm well aware of that. But there are people like me (and there are a hell of a lot more fighting for the same thing) who will fight until the end. You really must think your so high and mighty to declare who is and who is not human. News flash: you don't get to. Even if abortion is legal, that doesn't change the fact that it is a legal form of murder. Premeditated, knowingly murder. If your okay with that, then we have the real fight between pro lifers and pro choicers. But pro choicers try to skirt around the issue rather than fighting for what they actually believe in.

You're free to go around claiming that pro-choicers are murders, but if you can't tell us why a pregnant person should have less rights to their body than a corpse, then your words do very little.

And you still haven't addressed the bodily autonomy part of my argument. Parents are not legally obligated to provide blood or organs to their children. Even if you put someone in a position where they might require your body to sustain their life (imagine you hit them with your car), as some might argue the pregnant person has done with the fetus, you are still not legally obligated to let the use your blood, marrow, kidneys, etc. Why should pregnant people be exempt from this right to bodily autonomy?

I agree that we should live in a world where abortion didn't need to be an option, but even in hypotheticals that world would never exist. We should be working to reduce the amount of unwanted pregnancies through comprehensive sex education, to provide services and support to those who find themselves unexpectantly pregnant. Stigmatizing abortion, spreading lies and misinformation, and reducing reproductive rights helps no one.

You just admitted that a fetus doesn't have bodily autonomy. Not because it's "young and fragile", but because it's USING THE ORGANS of it's mother. 

No right trumps bodily autonomy. Not even the "right to life". 

Think of this: You have to give consent to give your organs up for donation after you are dead. Not even in death can someone use your body without your consent.

By denying a pregnant person their bodily autonomy, you are giving them less rights than a dead person.

You cannot be forced to donate your organs. You cannot be forced to give blood, bone marrow, or a kidney even if it would save another's life. If this is true (and it is) then why is it okay to force a pregnant person to give up their uterus and other organs to sustain the life of another?

Fetuses are neither of these things. They physically rely on someone else's bodily processes to survive (And yes, this is very different than an infant needing an adult to feed and care for them).

People can not have resources to have a kid. ANY kid. you don’t need to bring disability in to the mix.

Abled people do not get to rate disabled quality of life. You will be wrong. Accept this.

I have heard of tay sachs, but you know what i haven’t done? Read what kids who have it say and their opinions on you know, their existence. So I don’t know what they think or whether they’d rather have not existed at all (or if there’s even a general consensus).

I wanted my son. I cry for him all the time. But I wasn’t going to bring a child into the world only to have to put him in the ground within the next 5 years. My cousin had Tay-Sachs. There is nothing more painful than watching a baby suffer and die. But I guess I’m just an ableist shithead because I didn’t want my son to suffer like my cousin had to. A thousand fucking pardons, but I’m not going to sit here and deny that I had an abortion solely because of my son’s condition. If that’s what you consider “shitting on disabled people”, then fine, I guess I’m shitting on disabled people.

I don’t fucking care if this hurts your precious feelings, but some disabilities are so horrible that you’re better off dead than having to deal with them. I’m not saying that you personally are better off dead, but plenty of people are. Get over it and face reality like an adult. And while you’re at it, have a little compassion for those who are suffering unbearable pain instead of insisting that their lives are “worth it”.

I DON”T CARE ABOUT YOUR OPINION ON DISABILITIES. If you are abled, it doesn’t matter. If you cannot accept that while you may be more informed than some abled people on some disabilities, and some disabled people on disabilities that are different than the ones they have, you still cannot measure quality of life of a disabled person. ACCEPT IT.

also, you took a post about *all* disabilities and generalized it to one. You act like one lethal disability is the only one that people talk about when aborting disabled fetuses. people have talked about ALL kinds of disabilities and acted like we ALL should’ve been aborted. Do you care about adult disabled people?

what is wrong with abled people where they can see someone talking about how they have been hurt by pro choicers literally advocating eugenics and then they spew their garbage that some people are better off dead?

If you actually think people should abort their disabled fetuses, whether the pregnant person is abled or disabled and if they actually want the fetus.

And yes i did know that most mother have more than one kid, I was part of the pro-choice movement. I just don’t understand why one child deserves to live and the other deserves to die. When Jenelle on teen mom was pregnant at first, she called the baby she was about to abort terms such as “it.” When she found herself pregnant four months later, she started taking prenatals and talking about how much she was going to love her baby. Does that seem fair? 

But really? "Selfish enough to be sleeping around when you're supposed to be taking care of a kid?" 

So women who have children can't ever have sex again?

Even with their husbands?

They have to be celibate? And if they're not, that makes them child-hating whores.
