Desperation

An obsession

Not with the fulfillment of dreams,

but the satiation of thirst

Running from both

Tomorrow and yesterday

Exhaustion

My cells in mutiny

I don’t know where to go

Go on, 

Lift your palms

Grope the darkness

You are just

A sparrow in an undertow

Wings are heavier when wet

Treadmills and hamster wheels

Run if you wish

Or just sit still

Hope that it passes

Even though it won’t

It is the human’s benevolent tendency

To teach his younger peers, but

Some truths should never be spoken, 

And can never be taught

-

Perhaps if life lessons

Could be imparted like birthday presents

Or if two minds could speak forthrightly

This benevolence would go a long way

But it is not so 

-

Man speaks with his lips, his words,

And words, while beautiful and vast, 

Are frail, imperfect carriers 

A thousand lily pads attempting to carry a boulder

A heavier truth

-

Some truths only become true when learned for themselves

A loving mother lets the son touch the stove

Just once, just for a moment

And in that moment, Mom’s verbal warning becomes real

A blistered burn, a truth learned:

“Careful, son, it’s hot.”

Yes, words:

Static in definition but fluid in context,

Such is life, such is Man and his morals

The virtue of honesty is but a hindrance to the thief who is

Trying to steal bread for a starving son or daughter

Life is not so black and white

-

So,

When a child asks you

What is right? What is wrong? 

Speak sparingly

Answers given mean less than answers found

-

Universal laws dance with conditional exceptions

A ballet of reason, fate, and chaos

-

An entropic waltz
