What you should know
Mamdani administration has secured more than $8.5M in restitution since taking officeÂ
[Note: To be clear, that's just between January 2026 and March 2026.]
...over YouTube Live while eating a Crunchwrap Supreme, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced the filing of an enforcement petition against QSR Management LLC, a Dunkinâ franchisee that operates locations in Staten Island, seeking monetary relief for workers and civil penalties. The petition alleges that QSR Management LLC and managing corporate officer Ronny Nader violated the rights of approximately 1,000 workers under theâŻFair Workweek Law and Protected Time Off Law. The Mamdani Administration also announced settlements with two companies that will provide more than 830 workers with more than $1.8 million to resolve violations of theâŻFair Workweek Law. In addition to restitution, Dunkinâ & Taco Bell franchisee Salz Management LLC and premium fashion retailer Theory will pay more than $176,000 in civil penalties and costs... âTodayâs settlements are about more than financial compensation for working New Yorkers âthough that relief matters. At their core, these actions are about restoring dignity on the job. Every worker deserves a predictable schedule â something stable enough to plan a life around, to care for family, to show up for the people who depend on them,â said Mayor Mamdani. âThis city will not tolerate any corporation or franchisee that violates our Fair Workweek laws, or any of the labor protections that workers fought for and won. We will keep enforcing those laws, so that every New Yorker knows their rights and can count on this city to defend them.â ... The Mamdani Administration is urging all workers who believe their rights have been violated to file a complaint by visiting nyc.gov/workersâŻor by calling 311. Since Jan. 1, 2026, the Administration has secured more than $8.5 million in restitution for New York City workers, including more than $500,000 for freelancers ripped off by production company Splashlight and nearly $5 million for Uber Eats, Fantuan and HungryPanda delivery workers.

I've been browsing carnivorous plant websites and I need everyone to see my new favorite "X for Scale" image:
PUT BABY IN NEPENTHES PITCHER.
Source
[IDâ
A large pitcher plant in a greenhouse. In the background are various other tropical plants, including one with a tall spray of small flowers.
The rim of the pitcher is attractively striped in different shades of rust, orange, yellow and pale green. The inside of the pitcher appears speckled. The outside is mostly a smooth green tube.
For scale, an adult (mostly out of frame) is holding a onesie-clad baby next to the pitcher plant. The pitcher is almost as large as the human infant, who is blithely oblivious to the carnivorous plant next to it.
End ID.]

ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 6/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
He sure does love his fruits
We just not going to talk about how he can also do pottery? With chocolate?
And stickers!
he HAS A not chocolate version of that god damned bowl right there! TAUNTING US, and holding the not pastries kiwis!

Let people grow.
When I was younger I was very right-wing. I meanâŚvery right-wing. I wonât go into detail, because Iâm very deeply ashamed of it, but whatever youâre imagining, itâs probably at least that bad. Iâve taken out a lot of pain on others; Iâve acted in ignorance and waved hate like a flag; Iâve said and did things that hurt a lot of people.
There are artefacts of my past selves online â some of which Iâve locked down and keep around to remind me of my past sins, some of which Iâve scrubbed out, some of which are out of my grasp. If I were ever to become famous, people could find shit on me that would turn your stomach.
But thatâs not me anymore. Iâve learned so much in the last ten years. Iâve become more open to seeing things through othersâ eyes, and reforged my anger to turn on those who harm others rather than on those who simply want to exist. Iâve learned patience and compassion. Iâve learned how to recognise my privileges and listen to othersâ perspectives. Iâve learned to stand up for others, how to hear, how to help, how to correct myself. And I learned some startling shit about myself along the way â with all due irony, some of the things I used to lash out at others for are intrinsic parts of myself.
You wouldnât know what I am now from what I was then. You wouldnât know what I was then from what I am now.
It distresses me deeply to think of someone dredging up my dark, awful past and treating me as though that furiously hateful person is still me. It distresses me to see others dredging up the past for anyone who has made efforts to become a better person, out of some sick obsession with proving theyâre âproblematic.â
Purity culture tells you that once someone says or does something, they can never go back on it. Thatâs a goddamn lie. While itâs true that some remain unrepentant and never change their ways and continue to harm others, itâs important to allow everyone the chance to learn from their mistakes. Saying something ignorant isnât murder. Please stop treating it that way. Let people grow.
Still call it out and question it âŚ.
Bruh. No. Listen. Call out what people do now, absolutely. If they havenât changed, call them out on their record. This post is explicitly not about people who HAVENâT changed. What this post IS saying is, if someone is making an effort to be a good person, donât go digging around in their past for evidence that they were once for what theyâre now against, or once against what theyâre now for, as âproofâ of what they âreally think,â because peopleâs opinions and beliefs can change.Â
The obsession with finding shit in someoneâs past and then claiming that a questionable or even sordid past negates all possibility of a good present needs to become extinct. Gold-star activism and purity culture are bullshit and we need to collectively reject the fuck out of them.
If someone has changed for the better, donât harass them about what they were like before they fuckinâ changed. Thatâs shitty and it needs to stop.
We canât change the world if we decide people canât change.
Gold-star activism and purity culture are bullshit and we need to collectively reject the fuck out of them.
We really need to start asking where this purity bullshit came from. Iâm not Christian and was not raised Christian but there has been a lot evidence that much of gold star activism and purity culture originated in of evangelical youth movements and then infiltrated progressive left-wing and center-left politics when those youth left their churches but failed to leave behind the black-n-white puritanical âyouâre going to hell if you stray one inch from the righteous pathâ style of thinking they were taught.
I distinctly remember some conversations I had in the late 00s and very early 2010s with long time social justice activists who were baffled and disturbed by the new crop of youth activists who were practicing something that was decidedly NOT social justice despite stealing that phrase from us.
In the decade and a half that has passed since then, all of this gold-star activism and purity culture has done exactly what I predicted back then:Â empowered the far-right while sowing division everywhere.
Folks. This shit needs to stop.
Dedicated to my cat, who is very vocal about my bed time.
PATREON
My coworkers think Iâm soooooo craaazy omg youâre so out there! But truly Iâve just internalized a very tumblr style of humor where given a normal conversation with an opening for comedy Iâm always going to select the most absurdist possible dialogue option and then stick to it forever as a bit.
This insane update from Neocities
It's possible the pandemic made fandom even more mainstream (I don't know, honestly), but the current moral panic in fandom is largely the result of far-right religious/puritanical rhetoric infiltrating traditionally female- and queer-led fandom spaces, aka transformatove fandom. The mainstreaming of fandom has been proposed in some of the research as a contributing factor, but this ideological infiltration remains the strongest drive behind the current wave of purity culture in fandom.
Fandom was first infiltrated by a wave of "anti-MOGAl" / "gender-critical" queer exclusionists around 2015-2016, through transformative fandom-heavy platforms like Tumblr. This group would later become known as/widely adopt the term "trans-exclusionary radical feminist" - yup, TERFs.
Antis/antishipping discourses took hold around 2016; they heavily draw from Western ethnocentric religious ultraconservative and TERF talking points, and antis themselves are often TERFs to this day, although there have been waves of "TERF DNI" antis. I want to underline that these "TERF DNI" accounts still widely parrot TERF talking points, much in the same way that antis generally perceive themselves as progressive leftists while parroting far-right rhetoric; profound cognitive dissonance is a distinctive trait of antishipping discourse, which makes it especially rife with contradiction/logical fallacies, hypocrisy, and political incoherence.
I wrote my second MA's dissertation on antishipping as moral panic in 2024 and previously focused on "anti-MOGAI" queer exclusionist discourse in the Good Omens fandom in my first MA thesis in 2019. That said, I invite you not to take my word for it and instead check out the academic literature on it, as well as Sam Aburime's extensive web documentation of antishipping rhetoric. I don't have my citation list with me atm but there are several works available to the public -- off the top of my head, you can check out The Cult Structure of the American Anti by Sam Aburime and Renee Ann Drouin's research documenting the emergence of anti discouse in the Voltron fandom around 2016.

Random thing for people to consider is that since Laika is the saint of one way trips should Felicette be known as the saint of safe landings since she did make it back to the ground safely
tu LANCES fĂŠlicette ? tu lances son corps comme la fusĂŠe ? oh ! oh ! prison pour les scientifiques ! prison pour les scientifiques pendant Un Mille Ans !
You can understand the French perfectly fine with only context but the English translation I got still had me floored
The people I spoke to were worried they had failed to arrive at the elusive destination of âacceptanceâ.
A long read, and worthwhile.
Bro was THIS close to calling air bud a slur
The oldest living tree ever found was a pine named âPrometheus.â It had been alive since before the Egyptian pyramids were built. Some guy cut it down in 1964. Source
he was actually a forestry graduate student who was doing research on bristlecone pines (Pinus langaevea) and got his increment borer stuck in the tree. this tool costs almost $800, so he asked the forest service if he could cut down the tree to recover the tool. after cutting it down, it became apparent that the tree was actually the oldest living organism. ever. (around 8,000 years old). so, not just some asshole. the guy feels extremely guilty and has even broken down in tears during an interview about the accident
OH MY GOD SO LET ME TELL YOU A STORY
So after the grad student cut down the tree and discovered it was the oldest tree in the world he quit studying forestry and went to study salt flats (canât cut down the oldest trees in the world on salt flats no siree none of that happening) and he was being interviewed about his research, but in the middle of the interview the reporter just stops and says âwait arenât the guy thatâŚâ
And he just takes off running. Literally. Turns around and runs across the salt flats away from the interview and I feel so bad for him but I canât help but start crying Iâm laughing so hard about it imagine a guy high tailing it across salt flats away from a dude with a recorder
its so different to know it was an accident and that NO ONE was aware until after. its not like this was one ignorant guy cutting down a fucking relic.
