Undergrowth (Yongasabi: igonda) is an anthro Rain World AU, told as a hybrid webcomic and askblog. While the Endless Winter of Saint's time rage outside, slugcats and scavengers have long been forced to change their lifestyles, with most moving into geothermal pockets underground. In this setting, the timeline is compressed, events overlap, and in the warmth of Undergrowth, Saint maintains a garden shelter where they house the other slugcats.
The blog author is @opashoo. If you have any questions that aren't addressed directly towards Undergrowth or its characters, you can ask me at my personal blog. Ko-fi here if you're feeling generous.
Content Warning: As of now, Undergrowth is a +15 work. The exact nature of subject matter will be subject to change as I feel out the tone, but it will contain depictions of trauma, blood, injury, and sexual themes. This blog is generally aimed towards an adult audience and posts will be tagged appropriately.
Blog context, ask rules, additional info, and table of contents for the blog's chapters below. This post may change as time goes on.
Rules
As of June 1st 2026
Asks are generally handled diegetically, communicated through overseers as a means of long-distance communication. Asks can be fun and playful, but I won't be entertaining things like Magic!Anons, spam, bait, or nonsensical asks. DMs to this blog will be ignored.
Asks should generally be directed towards specific characters. Be sure to address the character you are speaking to. Asks that don't address anyone specific will be up for grabs by any of the characters.
If you have a meta question, or want to ask a question non-diegetically, please include "[Meta]" at the beginning. If the ask is unrelated to the blog, or you just want to send an ask to me directly, my blog is @opashoo.
Unfortunately I won't be able or willing to answer all asks. I'm ultimately doing this for fun and will prioritize telling a story, so asks will generally be slow or closed during story events. However, the breaks between story events are generally the designated time for asks.
No slurs. You can be rude to the characters if it makes sense for the context, and you can even look up some Yongasabi insults if you want, but no real life slurs.
When it comes down to it, I run the blog and I get the final say what gets posted.
Context
The story as it stands
The Undergrowth AU is an anthro AU where the blizzards of Saint's timeline have come sooner and deadlier, forcing most Yongasabi (slugcats) and Mulngjer (scavengers) to settle in underground geothermal pockets or adopt lifestyles suited to the cold. It takes the timeline of the game and compresses it so that all slugcats are alive concurrently, and all the events of the game have already happened much more quickly, oftentimes overlapping.
Pebbles' collapse and Moon's acquisition of the rarefaction cell are recent events. The Metropolis Scavengers have moved underground to found New Metropolis; Artificer's rampage and subsequent exile are still fresh in the minds of the both scavengers and slugcats; the worsening blizzards prevent travel between retaining walls. Hunter—whose condition is dependent on active treatment from NSH—Rivulet, and Spearmaster are trapped in Moon and Pebbles' retaining wall while Monk, Survivor, and Gourmand have all been separated from their colony. Everyone lives in a shelter built in Undergrowth, run by Saint.
The AU centers around Saint after the events of their campaign, who has taken to the teachings of Rhinestones Beneath Shattered Glass and started a garden in Undergrowth, where they have gathered all the other slugcats to live in safety. The other slugcats see Saint as a mysterious benefactor who knows more than they should, rescued each of them from certain death for unknown reasons, and given them shelter from the blizzards, but for Saint, it's all part of a comfortable routine formed from countless lifetimes of repetition.
In their most recent lifetime, however, things have started to change. Things aren't where they should be. People aren't where they should be when they should be. Events that have always fallen on consistent times and dates simply don't. Then Saint starts getting dream visits from someone they've never met before in all their past lifetimes, one who brings ominous warnings about the future.

I've been wanting to make a mechanical jointed doll of an iterator for a long while, to be used for stop motion purposes, and I decided to use @maryymaruu 's Three Signals as the subject for the prototypes. Anyway, here is the finial doll!
I also just finished it, but I made a short animation test!
(more images and rambling below cut)
The dress took a bit for me to really get down but in the end it's basically just a rectangle with two parallel long strips on the sides (I also really understand why three signals can't tie it without help I struggled a lot with tying this thing nicely)
Some pictures of just the doll, I wanted the files to print support free so the larger body parts print in two halves with little connectors I could push in; this resulted in lines but I really quite like the way they look on him :]
Finally the two test models I made (along with a pen for scale) The first was made before before I modeled the limbs and was just to check if the size felt right and I didn't accidentally make assembly impossible (fortunately everything worked!) The differences between the second model and the finial are minute but important such as improved shoulder articulation, hip joints that assemble better, and functional eyelids.
This is the first doll I've made with full human articulation and I'm quite happy with how it turned out! I'm going to modify the design to make Looks to the Moon, the files for which I will release publicly, before tackling my sona. I'm also going to reblog this with the detailed process of how it made it whenever I get around to that.
Thank you! I probably will model five pebbles although for him and moon I'm just going to make a post with the files to print them attached instead of assembling and painting them myself.

Oh my god I dropped everything when I saw this oh my god oh my god oh my god-!!!
SIGNALS!!! YOU'RE REAL!!
AND YOU'RE SO ADORABLE!!!!
I HAVE SO MUCH RUNNING THROUGH MY MIND ALL AT ONCE THAT I WANT TO SAY HOLY SHIT
FIRST OF ALL!!!
I need to praise your craftsmanship HOLY HELL that is so impressive!! An incredible piece of work oh my god! The articulation on this thing is mind blowing!! They blink! BLINK!! And I see that even the antennae is moving just like I designed it to!! The head shape is so adorable, the cutest egg of them all, and the antenna boxes are so perfect! And oh my goodness those eyes, they're so so so so CUTE! I cannot stress enough how cool it is that they're blinking.
Are the face markings hollow as well? Or just painted? And waughhh the whole body type and proportions are so good! So damn cute!! So majestic too! The stop motion test is frigging amazing already too, I've always had big respect towards stop motion, and you even got the robes to flow in it!
Speaking of robes, omggggg do they look good!! Even the material is wonderfully glossy, and it looks just like what TS is wearing! It's really impressive because I did not plan that robe out to save my life, I was just drawing nonsense drapery on top of him for a year, and only tried to put it together sensibly when you asked!
You are incredibly talented, and I am absolutely HONORED to have my blorbo chosen as the subject of your prototype work! You have no idea how happy it makes me to know a little TS doll exists out there, and it's so beautiful 🥹💕 Three Signals, muse in my headcanon lore, muse irl for me, and apparently a muse for talented artists all over the world too <3
Thank you thank you thank you!!
I was honestly oblivious to the ask, I was just glad someone is interested in TS enough to ask about what the hell is going on with that schrödingers cloth on him lol!
Again, they look beautiful beautiful beautiful, ans I want to smooch them all over that adorable little egg head, and smooch your hand in thanks for making him real
I'm looking forward to seeing more dolls made by you! I see you mention Moonie coming up next, augh my beloved 🥹
Thank you so much!!!!!! I'm really glad you like it! The face markings are slightly indented into the head, you can se them in the unfinished models as well.
Also If you have any requests for any more pictures of him I'm happy to oblige! I wanna make more little vignettes with him!

Is Three Signals' robe inspired by any specific piece/type of clothing? It looks similar to a toga but I wasn't able to find anything that had two more voluminous sleeves like his.
I'm glad you asked, thank you!!
To be entirely honest with you, Three Signals's robes are mostly just "random bullshit go".
The main concept of it all was just loose silky fabric wrapped around and just held together by them, like a big blanket. Inspiration being the theater curtains, something something "fallen actor", something something "holds onto the heavy curtains until they crush them" *cough cough*
Drawing that turned out to be rather difficult, so his robes don't even make much sense most of the time. I'm fully open for people making out their own shapes and outfits out of the jumbled fabric mess- but ye, generally it's just loose fabric came undone and TS is unable to wrap it back up nicely by themself.

Hornet of skong acclaim, a decent amount of words bellow.
I had some head cannons that I didn't see represented very often that inspired me to make this. The first of which being that her mask is removeable, I just assumed this was the case for her for the longest time but I never saw anyone who made any art of her like this so I decided to take a crack at it. It took quite a few tries to settle on a design that didn't look off to me but I like the final idea that her helmet is shaped like that to protect long antennae.
Secondly is scars, Due to her fast healing, poor nutrition and self care combined with the lifestyle of constant close quarters combat I think she scars very often with a very visible texture and color (I did a smidgen of research and from what i found exoskeleton does scar over but possibly not in the way i depicted it). so I tried to put a gnarled wood like texture on everything not protected by the mask.
Drew the mask with patterns as well, because it's pretty :]
I have a confession mhoch.. the horrible truth.. almost all my drawings take less than three hours to make, with at least half made in under 1.. the actual reason it takes me an eternity to get anything done is that I am.. extremely lazy.. orz
