Pierrot | Harlequin | Ticket Taker | Doctor | Columbina | Humans | The Mascots | Surprises...
Here comes Mel and Jester's no-this-is-not-a-date-Harlequin, where her ramblings morph into more of a conversation between them.
Describing Jester and Mel's relationship as "complicated" would sort of be an understatement.
One little thing to know is that Mel was created to intentionally have many MANY similarities to Jester, because I got curious one day and started asking myself what in a human would make him truly pause and think instead of writing them off.
They are both "motherly" leader figures in their groups, they take on as much if the responsibility they can for the sake of those they care about, they would not hesitate to sacrifice everything for them, they can both be theatrical bloodthirsty bitches, and don't get me started on their pasts (that we know of), they both like purple- the list goes on. And they have plenty of differences too!
As such, Mel and Jester are in a position they've never been in before; one where they feel they can truly understand the other on a level deeper than anyone else. They are two predators sizing each other up and realizing they are on as much equal ground as a monster and human can be.
For Mel, this makes her more comfortable to let her practical side show, especially since she's used to matching with other people's energy, so she's more coy and cunning, especially when discussing more interesting matters. This is a new level of comfort to her, and it makes her happy to see him.
"Is this what it feels like to find your mirror? I've never felt so bare yet so free to let go at the same time. He won't judge, he understands, I know he does, I feel it in my gut. I feel it so much I feel I'm going to puke. Huh, that's not a good thing, but hanging out with him feels good, feels familiar and new at the same time. Are we friends? I hope we're friends ^β‘^"
Let's hope this feeling lasts...
On Jester's side, he's definitely more apprehensive, and he tries his hardest to hide that from her, since she can already read him so well so fast. He quickly catches on that she knows more than regular humans, and the more he learns about her the more stuck he gets. Who does this human think she is, with her eyes that see and know and understand too much? They are nothing alike, they cannot be, she is delusional!
But her understanding is as comfortable as it is scary, and it's more and more difficult to keep her at arms length, to keep up his mask of the mysterious leader who must protect his foolish family members from her and her sweet words. Surely she must be hiding her disgusting human hatred of them under all those layers, he just needs to get close enough to peel them back for all to see, then he'll they'll understand that humans cannot love!
So what if that means having genuinely interesting conversations about deep aubjects he didn't know she could keep up with, and that she always manages to make boring human things seem fun and that he could hear her talk about whatever comes to her mind for hours? This is all in vain anyway, she's just an ephemeral distraction. So sure, why not entertain this passing fad of theirs (having your cake and falling in love with it too, aren't you, Jester?) She's so happy to do what he says anyway. It's not like this attachment may become a problem, he's got things under control! (Or does he? Hehehehehehe)
Phew, finally done! This is a big step up from my last one, we have unlocked movement! And shadows!
(Tho redrawing the anatomy on a phone instead of paper was literally hell lol this is why I sketch in notebook first-)
I originally wasn't going to add shadows because I wanted to keep the drawing a bit flat for my sake, but they add very necessary tension to the scene (and Jester's my fave soooo)
Anyways, I'm gonna take a teeny break from this series bc I feel like I need to write and introduce the other characters of this story.
Honestly, I feel a bit silly to have put ocs I haven't introduced as an option with the og characters. Did I really think ppl would be curious enough not to vote for their faves? Silly silly me : p
I'll use this break to flesh out more thing in posts (that I regularly go back and edit to keep things consistent accross them) so next poll they might actually have a fighting chance >_<
Plus, if I'm very lucky, I might actually write my prologue soon! It's very important for me to write a sort of Day 0 where we can catch a glimpse of Mel's daily routing in her current living situation before the circus comes in to yell "it's circus time!" and then circuses all over her life lol (and she Mels all over theirs hehehehe)
(BTW does this count as an au? I've seen some ppl put the au tag on their stuff and I added ALOT of stuff to the original Canon (more like built off of it, it's not canon divergent! I love this vn's lore I tune in to every ama) should i tag it as a tfc au? It feels like I should)
Totally unrelated to anything, does anyone have advice for communicating the sheer size of a ghost using all the furniture scraps it can find to build itself a body that's covered in black cloth and moves like a giant centipede with hundreds mannequin and furniture legs and spans like tens of miles and wraps around mountains to sleep in like a doodle format?
