The man had fled from the dimension he had been sent to conquer by the Ancestral Witches, but it proved to be too much for him to handle alone. Their creation of the corrupted dragon flame and dark magic consumed everything in his wake, a perfect weapon until he gained more power and became more self-aware of the chains that bound him to their servitude. Valtor used the rest of his magic, casting a spell, flinging himself across dimensions, somewhere he would be safe from his enemies and his creators' watchful gaze, so he could take time to plot how to free himself.

He lay at the base of a shattered oak, the trunk split clean as he was clad in dark, torn armor threaded with faintly glowing runes that the little elf wouldn't be able to recognize. His hair, pale and dusted with ash, clung to his face with sweat. One wing was twisted beneath him, the magic that shaped it flickering weakly, unstable. The man's eyes snapped open, burning a bright amber-gold, unfocused but sharp with instinct. He tried to rise, failed, and hissed as pain tore through him. Dimensional energy leaked from the cracks in his armor, warping the air around him like heat over stone.

His skin bore fractures of glowing energy, like veins filled with molten gold. Some were shallow, others split deep enough that magic spilled out, evaporating into sparks before it touched the soil. His chest rose unevenly, each breath dragged through pain he was barely containing. One arm was bent at a wrong angle, bone pushing dangerously close to the surface. A snarl escaped his lips as he stared at the creature, not knowing what she was, but before he could even react, Valtor lost consciousness as his magic disapeared completed into smoke.

The moment the man hissed and started sparking magic, she ran through the trees, calling her father’s name as she streaked through the forest. Before long she made it to the brook, jumping over it and panting hard, “Papa, Papa!”

It was enough to summon Aaravos immediately to her side, catching the running child in his arms. “What is it, unicorn? What frightened you?”

“A man! Human! I think –” Leola stammered out, unable to get the words properly out. “Very hurt! Magic sparking off of him!” She burrowed her face into his robes, as he carefully scooped her up. It was unusual for humans to be carrying a spark of magic, and that warranted an investigation.

“Leola, lead me to him.” he said petting his daughter’s head gently. “I will handle it, alright? You leave this to Papa.”

“Okay,” she hiccuped, pointing where she’d run off from. “He broke a tree.”
