It is clichĂŠ, not plagiarism, that is the problem with our stilted, room-temperature political discourse. It used to be that thinking people would say, with at least a shred of pride, that their own convictions would not shrink to fit on a label or on a bumper sticker. But now it seems that the more vapid and vacuous the logo, the more charm (or should that be "charisma"?) it exerts. Take "Yes We Can," for example. It's the sort of thing parents might chant encouragingly to a child slow on the potty-training uptake. Pretty soon, we should be able to get electoral politics down to a basic newspeak that contains perhaps 10 keywords: Dream, Fear, Hope, New, People, We, Change, America, Future, Together. Fishing exclusively from this tiny and stagnant pool of stock expressions, it ought to be possible to drive all thinking people away from the arena and leave matters in the gnarled but capable hands of the professional wordsmiths and manipulators.
YES WE CAN
Itâs always the âfamily valuesâ types ainât it.. Interestingly thereâs several members of parliament who used their official MP government email addresses - most unwise

I presume this is a consequence of Github's recent adoption of the âOpen Code of Conductâ, devised by âGeek Feminismâ, et al.
The innocuous title does not befit the content of it, which makes a scroll through necessary. I read through it before when Github made the announcement, and this part in their FAQ section rustled my jimmies in particular:
>Doesn't this impact the right to free speech? Why are you stomping on my rights? See this XKCD for our feelings on this matter: https://xkcd.com/1357/
To see what a piece of casuistry that comic is, all one has do to imagine a pure example of what it advocates. Imagine a 'Free Speech Roomâ, which they take people into who want to say something, and allow them to speak to their heartâs content, with the only condition being that they say all they have to say within the room, which is an empty padded cell which no else can witness (see or hear).
Free speech is stripped of its benefit when others are unwilling, or unable, to listen.
Why is it so hard for white ppl to understand that they donât get to decide what is racist or not? If Adam Goodes is coming out and saying heâs experiencing racism, he probably is. Heâs probably experienced enough racism in his life to know what it looks like.
Itâs just another form of racism when white ppl claim âitâs nothing to do with raceâ, when they have never experienced systematic oppression due to their race. Stop erasing the lived experiences of POC
>Picks on a 13-year-old girl >Makes spear-throwing gestures towards the crowd and tries to pass it off as âcultureâ >Tries to fuck up Eddie for making an ineffectual joke
I donât follow AFL, but he sounds like a bit of a cunt. I say good on them for taking him down a notch in a way that is both effective and non-violent. I mean what are they going to do, arrest or ban members of the crowd for booing?

>ledditcucks The bit that stands out most to me: âWhat all the white-power racist-sexist neckbeards donât understand is that with her at the head of the company, the company would be immune to accusations of promoting sexism and racism: she is literally Silicon Valleyâs #1 Feminist Hero, so any âSJWsâ would have a hard time attacking the company for intentionally creating a bastion (heh) of sexist/racist content.â It doesnât get any more unscrupulous than that folks
Pao has been at the center of a controversy following the still-unexplained dismissal of a popular figure in the site's r/IAmA section. She is being replaced by Steve Huffman, the site's original CEO.
this makes me so angry, everything she did (and the stuff redditors complained about was almost all decided by the previous ceo and not her fault) wouldnât have warranted comment if she were a male ceo
A large part of the userbase hated her, but thatâs not who or what forced her out. Consider that despite the backlash over the new âPromote ideas, protect peopleâ policy, she stood firm - and that was a whole month ago.
No, itâs not the 'mobâ that has forced her out, but the members of the board who are seeing users jump ship to alternatives like Voat, which has them worried. This is what she means by âthe board asked me to demonstrate higher user growth in the next six months than I believe I can deliverâ. Paoâs big mistake wasnât molding the place into her own vision and taking a dump on the userbase, since all they can do is petition and write comments. Petitions donât do anything, more comments only mean more page views, and most of them will settle down after a day or two anyway. Her big mistake was attempting to fuck around with the employees/moderators - the ones who are actually able to do something drastic, like shut down important sections of the site. The only regrettable outcome of this is that Redditâs existence will now be prolonged, and they will continue to enact the same kind of policies Pao has - except for taking on their own goons.
