Admin Assistant Problems

When people assume that you’re not intelligent or talented because you “just answer the phones”

Caller: “I want to talk to that kid... I have no idea what his name is. He’s young. Gimme him.”

When people use the scanner behind your desk and can’t figure it out... the directions are right there, people! Read!

When other admins COULD take phones for you for half an hour so you can train someone, but they “just don’t feel like it”

When a guy who calls often feels the need to tell you his full name, company, job title, and the address of the company EVERY time he calls in

(But then the VP calls and yells at them, so it’s ok)

When you tell a caller that someone is working remotely and is not in the office, so the caller should try the employee's cell phone... and he keeps calling back into the office and asking for the same person

What I Wish I Could Say: "Never."

Being able to recognize footsteps so you know who's coming down the hallway to your desk... and sighing if it's someone you don't want to see (which is, well, actually pretty much everyone)

Counting down the minutes until lunch time

Lol, no, I did not sign up for that.

Caller: "He's always in a meeting, isn't he? Well @#*$& that. I think you're just not putting me through to him."

Having to squeeze past people in the hallway akwardly, because the building has no storage space and the hallways are lined with filing boxes

When people forget their building key cards and you have to let them in

When the president has an exorbitant salary, but "can't afford" to pay his assistants a decent wage

When the company decides to move to an open office plan to squeeze more people in, because they're too cheap to look for a new building

Hahahahaha! Hahahahaha! Let me think about that... NO!
