A big memory problem that ADHDers face cause of executive dysfunction is recall.. ie, recalling information you already know.
You have probably experienced this many times.. your friend mentions a restaurant you went to a few months ago and you are completely blank.. canât remember anything.
Then they mention a few more details.. about the decor of the place and who else was there and BOOM, suddenly it all comes back to you.
Recall problems.
It certainly is a bigger problem for me than actually storing the information.
Now, I do have a solution for it.. and you can see it at play even in the my example.Â
Things are easier to remember when you have other information associated with it. Things that set it apart.
So for example, if you want to remember if you locked your front door or not, do a little dance as you lock up. Then you can think back to if you danced today or not.Â
Locking the door is a boring memory that is hard to recall. But awkward dancing in front of your doorsteps? You wonât forget it even if you try.
this is a symptom of trauma and in most other groups itd be seen as such, but social rejection and abuse are baked so deep into the dsm of adhd/autism that obvious ptsd is looked at as an innate part of their presentation.. its sad :-(
not to be the one who goes 'actually...' but ACTUALLY, crisis kicks the adhd brain in full gear and since it is always understimulated as all heck suddenly??? instead of going overboard the mental processes actually go closer to the NORMAL level, the one they should technically be at! and that's why kids with adhd sometimes seek conflict, since it actively makes their brains work better!
Fair enough đ itâs just a theory but what youâve said is not dissimilar to what I was trying to convey.
Stop shrinking yourself to fit places youâve outgrown.

Hey kids, not to be a party pooping adult, but if you start noticing signs of having an addictive personality/tendencies at a young age, be really careful when experimenting with alcohol, marijuana, or nicotine (and other illegal drugs, which I would encourage you to avoid entirely; and medicinal drugs like opioids acquired after a surgery).
Like, if you can't tear yourself away from a video game, even to make it to an important event on time? Addictive tendencies.
If you keep spending your allowance money on those funny collectibles or new shoes even when you promise yourself you're going to save it? Addictive tendencies.
If you find yourself unable to resist and manage food cravings, or frequently overeating even when it makes you feel bad? Addictive tendencies.
Be aware of yourself, kids. Be cautious and don't be anybody's fool. I love you, be safe!
one of the most daunting things about adhd is that relaxing is uncomfortable. it feels beyond unnatural. even if you tried to meditate, or other forms of relaxation, the feeling of calmness is agonizing. anyone that has told me to âmeditateâ to relieve me from my bouncing/jitters/subconscious moving, clearly does not know the inner pain of relaxation. itâs the worst!!!!!!
adhd is: this is going slightly different then how i imagined it, must throw out all plans and panic wing it.
I've heard (and experienced) that an Adhd person's brain will "go normal" in crisis situations. Would you be able to explain that a little?

I wouldnât say an ADHD brain goes ânormalâ in any situation but what I do believe happens is whatâs going on in our heads is generally louder and more interesting/distracting than whatâs going on around us externally and we donât really feel the need or can engage fully in the world on a day to day basis. However! In a crisis, the external is giving us more input than our own minds and we use our tools like hyperfocus etc and switch into âhelpingâ mode and run around doing all these things because finally the world matches our minds. This is my theory đ
-I have this problem that I canât finish anything because itâs not âperfectâ and Iâm ashamed, when it isnât -the other thing is that I sometimes I work TO much on something like 7 hours on my cosplay for example -the other thing is that my eating habits are TERRIBLE like wtf sometimes I nothing at all ( and no coffee doesnât count ) and then I most of the time the same thing because itâs easy and doesnât cost much time (procrastination COUGH) any idea?

Sorry about the horrendous late reply. Iâve been dealing with drama on my end. So, perfectionism is pretty normal in my experience. I am a perfectionist myself and itâs hella frustrating! The best thing I ever did was really instil in myself that if I tried my best and it still wasnât perfect then I would let myself off the hook and be kind to myself. Otherwise Iâd get all twisty and upset and angry. Try and be kind to yourself, it takes a bit of work to get out of the cycle of shame.
7 hours focusing on things sounds like hyper focus. Again super normal. You enjoy cosplay and enjoyment for people with ADHD can amount to super concentration. If you were doing homework or something similar you may experience hyperfocus but it tends to occur more naturally through intense interest.
Self care with ADHD is tough!! Itâs hard to be on point with groceries and eating schedules. Adulting is hard!!!!! When I started out I set alarms on my phone to remind me when I should eat. It really worked and now my body is in a good rhythm. Maybe give it a go.

Better than a basic love potion !
But weâre all working on this brew, putting a bit of self esteem, a bit of self-care, bit of support from friends and family and a lot of time.
I am part of the 2/3 of kids who continue to have ADHD symptoms into adulthood, but it took me a long time to figure that out because I was part of the generation told I would âgrow out of itâ as a kid.
