The fanfic does exist. It's largely unfinished. I've funnily enough been a victim of the AO3 curse. It stifled my creative process for years. I'm coming back around.
Yes it's animal crossing. But the story is based on what little lore we've been given in the games, and it is a dark tale. Animal crossing is in the same universe as other games such as star fox and Kirby, and so the horrors of their politics and godlike monsters are very real in the society that exists in animal crossing. I wanted to stay true to the dark themes nintendo liked to have in all of their old games beneath the colorful polygons.
