It was easier to pretend this was just a show, movie, that we were playing in. Easier than to acknowledge this is our new reality, that the government really didnât manage the Green Flue and most of our friends, neighbourhoods, families, very totally wiped out by it. I wanted to believe we can still turn this around, find another survivals and just leave to live our normal boring lives somewhere - even if I had to go back to Canada. So far I only encountered more zombies than before and it didnât seem like things can - and will - get better.
âDonât make her see you,â I muttered under my breath, sneaking outside alongside Selina, slowly and carefully closing the door behind as. It was not impossible that someone else could use the safe room, even if just to patch themselves up, and it would be a very unfortunate if it got overrun by zombies.
It was looking good, actually, tiny silent steps, one leg followed by another, not being seen, right until a manic laughter cut through the air.Â
â.. Jockey,â I whispered the obvious towards Selina to warn her. If someone could alter the witch to us it was maniac dragging us right into her. I am sure she heard it as well, but I was so nervous I just couldnât keep myself from telling her. Because what if she didnât?Â
She nodded at his warning, sure to keep her eye on the witch but not get close enough to disturb her. As Wade moved forward, Selina turned so that her back was to Wadeâs, but she could see if any of the monsters decided to sneak up on them.Â
Selina didnât really understand how the world had become the way it was. The post-apocalyptic world was terrifying, and it made her really appreciate Gotham in a way that she hadnât before. More than once, Selina had pinched herself to ensure that she wasnât stuck in some nightmare. She wasnât.
The laughter sent a chill up her spine as she froze, her sight still focused on the witch. The Jockey would be the one to disturb the witch, and sheâd come charging for Selina and Wade regardless of their innocence. âDo you see him?â She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She didnât want to turn too quickly, or take her eyes off of the witch. If she moved even an inch, Selina would take the shot.Â
