Jess laughed and shook her head, moving a little to the side when she felt him get up from the couch. She ended up ordering the same food she was going to make for him, though she ordered it from another restaurant instead of the diner. She knew who was working the delivery shift that night, and she didn’t need him to spread rumors about her and Vance to the other waitresses. Once the order had been placed, she followed him to the kitchen, partly to make sure that he wasn’t about to fall over and to tell him that she wouldn’t mind having some beer, too. Leaning against the counter, she watched him carefully, more out of interest than concern. With the way he was moving about, it was obvious that he was made of stronger stuff, so unless he ended up slumping over the counter, she wasn’t going to worry.

“How long?” she asked, popping the cap off of the beer bottle. “How long had you been wanting to do that?” While she didn’t obsess over it as much as he did, she did have a few daydreams of the two of them, some naughtier than the others. The most recent had been him showing up when she was on the last shift for the night and pulling her into the back room where he went down on his knees, pushed her skirts up, and fucked her with his tongue. handing a beer over to jess, vance lets a small smile stretch onto his face, in no rush to really push things too fast or too far. but he is interested in knowing a bit more about jess besides the fact that she was a waitress and that she was super fucking hot. anyone with eyes could figure that much out. he just wants to figure something a bit deeper. but either way, he’s decided that he wants to have her around as more than just a dog sitter/house sitter. she’s already proven that she can handle seeing him at his worst, and she didn’t shy away from him in that moment. instead, she cared about him, and took care of him, even when it might have been easier for her to run scared. she was the kind of woman that he definitely wanted to keep around. 

“Well…I don’t know the exact kind of art it could be considered as, but my favorite’s always been Starry Night,” she replied, leaning back a little when the food began to arrive. Although her orders came first, she didn’t start eating until after Vance’s food had been brought out, too. “Anything similar to that painting but doesn’t cost over a thousand dollars would be great.” Brooke didn’t name a very high price, but she was always willing to pay him more than ten percent if he ever accepted her request. He’d gone through most of the trouble, so naturally it felt fair to give him a bit more, within her budget, of course.

As the conversation turned to her, she tensed up a little like she always did when the spotlight was fixed on her. She was more used to talking to others than about herself, but it would be rude not to respond to any of his questions when he’d gamely answered all of hers. “I’ve always been interested in coffee and tea. Mostly coffee because of all the fragrant blends. I wasn’t able to drink it until I was in high school, but I’ve always wanted to own my own cafe one day. It did help that my older sister loved baking.” Holly had owned the bakery that was previously adjacent to hers, but she ended up moving to a bigger location several cities away. “She’s the one who supplies all the pastries in the cafe, just as I supply all the coffee blends in her bakery. But I miss having her close by.” With the last of their order now on the table, she dipped her pita into the hummus, making a soft sound of surprise at the sudden burst of flavor in her mouth.

“ starry night. oil on canvas. abstract. a legendary piece. one of the most known pieces of art ever made. i can think of a few artists who might be able to do something similar. and i’m owed a favor or two. i’ll see what i can do. don’t worry about my fee. i was never gonna charge you anyway, “ vance teased as he looked towards the woman who was seated across from him. the more he looked at her, the more he realized just how gorgeous she was. even before today, he thought she was attractive. how could he not, after all? those lips and those hips. those alone would be enough to get the attention of any man.

a husky sounding laugh at her little joke, almost inaudible from between her thighs, before he looks up at her to catch her eye. “ don’t worry. i got you. i ain’t gonna let you fall, “ vance assures with a slight smile still on his face before he headed back to his chosen task. and why shouldn’t he smile. making brisa feel good is definitely something that he enjoys to the fullest. because she always returns the favor and it’s always incredible. vance is a bit selfish at times. he will not contest that little fact. 

Okay, she didn’t exactly like the sound of that tone. Vance sounded irritated but you know what? She was irritated too if she was being completely honest. Once he moved, planting his hands at the sides of her legs, Kara set her cup down out of the way and folded her arms over her chest. “Fine then.” She responded, giving him an unsure look.       The had to take a moment to gather her thoughts before she just started spewing more words than she could keep up with. “I think I should ask the first question here and I want you to answer it honestly.” She knew she wouldn’t like the answer, so she was somewhat prepared. “What is so terrible about being with me that you feel the urge to go out and do things that go against what I believe and what I stand for? Am I honestly NOT ENOUGH to make you even think about trying not to do it? Please make me understand why you feel the need to be Supergirl’s target instead of Kara’s boyfriend. I really don’t understand, I’m not trying to make you mad. I just  - - - I’m frustrated and honestly I’m hurt because somehow me loving you isn’t enough. And on top of that, wanting you to help Supergirl instead of being on the other side of things - - - well, that’s another thing that goes along with the same train of thought.” This was going to be way too much for her to handle and there was going to be a meltdown in the near future but there was no stopping now.   

vance hears her speak, hears all of it and bears the weight of her words in silence because he wants her to get out everything before he chimes in and says his own piece. stoic, vance doesn’t say a word to the gorgeous woman who had stolen his heart so completely. until he does. “ is that what you think kara? is that what you think? that it’s something to do with you? that you aren’t enough? “ vance says, his voice softening along with his features as he lookes towards the kryptonian. 

kara. she’s one of the greatest things that has ever happened to him and knowing that he made her feel this way almost crushes him. he’s never had to actually face the weight of this head on. “ kara. it’s not about you loving me not being enough. it’s not about wanting to be against you. quite the opposite. you’re too good for me. you always have been. i am who i am. a thief is what i’ve always been. it’s what i want to be. and you can’t ever accept that. and i don’t want to force you to do that. it’s not about choosing to be your target or your boyfriend. i just don’t think i can’t be both. “

She was committing everything to memory. “ you and i both knnow that i live to make things harder for you. call it a bit of getting even for you alwais doing the same for me, “ vance teased lightly as he looked towards the blonde woman who was seated immediately in front of him as he crossed through her safehouse as he owned the place. never lacking for confidence, vance always felt as if he could do whatever he wanted whenever wanted without even an ounce of trepidation. 

“ you’re at work? here i thought you were just messing around in a safehouse and that you were waiting for me to show up and make your day. “ a laugh leaves his lips and then he shrugs his shoulders as he looks into the eyes of the woman who was earnestly surprised to see him here so early. “ honestly, you should be thanking your lucky stars that i’m here because i’m really saving you from a fate worse than death. “

her brows rose slightly as he spoke, almost impressed with the way that he asserted himself. she wouldn’t, couldn’t imagine a world where vance would be taken down by humanity. she doubted that anyone who would actually go against him would succeed. for one, because she had no plans of going against him herself. for two, because if someone were to try vance personally they would have to deal with her. 

she didn’t like the way the conversation had turned, didn’t like to think about the what-ifs of the world, so she was happy when it seemed vance was steering the conversation elsewhere. 

reaching for his hand, talia brought it closer to rest in her lap, fingers drawing shapes on his palm with the tip of her nails. “the most of what the world has to offer.” softly, she hummed as she looked up at him. “that is a pretty long to-do list, and you want to share it all with me?”

vance knows better than to expect this kind of kindness from talia al ghul. she was known the world over as being one of the most ruthless people on the planet, woman or otherwise. for those unfortunate enough to know about her existence, she was akin to a boogeyman. most hoped that they’d never have to cross paths with her. no one would expect tenderness or a soft touch from such a dangerous woman.

and yet, around him, she seemed the most gentle creature he’s ever met. the most tender soul he’s ever encountered. and he’s grateful that he’s able to know her in such a way. so when she takes his palm, turning it up so she can draw invisible figures at it’s core with perfectly manicured nails, he feels soft. the warmth that fills him is undeniable. 

his hand wraps around her hip and she immediately knows where this is going. years and years of back and forth with him made her something like an expert on him, even if he wouldn’t admit it. she knew where it was going, and she wanted it. 

a small sound came from her throat as he lifted her up, her legs spreading for him as soon as he set her on the table. the hand that had been on his chest wrapped around the back of his neck, pulling him into her quickly as hips lips found hers. her free hand clutched at the belt holding his pants up, pulling him closer and closer as she fed at his mouth.

his lips on hers were like a favorite dessert that she just couldn’t get enough of. even when they argued, even when they were both angry with each other, her body craved his. she hummed in frustration when he pulled away, not wanting to end the kiss so quickly but that was before she’d heard what he said. her hands moved to the hem of his shirt, pushing it up as she leaned in to kiss him one more time. “i don’t know, but let’s fix that problem, shall we?”

her hand grasping at his belt, pulling him in and keeping his body near hers is all the sign he needs to know that she wants him. it’s so rare that the two of them don’t end up like this. even when they are at odds. even when they are on the opposite side of something, they always choose to come back to this side of things. they choose to end up like this one another. because it felt right. because the two of them together felt like what it was always supposed to be. a hum leaves his lips as he hovers close to selina. 

“ trust me. i’ve got every intention of doing just that, “ vance buzzed as he lifted his arms so she can pull his shirt off over his head. a moan leaves his lips before his hand comes forward to pull apart his belt in a rush. the sooner they are both naked, the better. and then in a huff, that same hand came forwards so he can zip down the front of her catsuit, eager to see more of her flesh revealed to him. more than any other desire, that is what he wanted from her. 

her brow rose slightly at his hand on her forearm, eyes shifting slightly to look at his hand before moving back to his face. she didn’t have a problem with his touching her, but he knew that touch made his thoughts easier to read. she didn’t try to read others’ minds, not usually at least, but when they presented themselves so clearly - it was actual effort to not. 

the bond that she’d formed with vance was somewhat surprising to her. at a time where she was too afraid to get close to anyone in any way, physically or emotionally, she’d allowed him access to her. she never thought that it would be more than quick jobs, mindless activities, but somehow they’d moved past that to her actually caring about him. the more she looked at him, the more she realized that fact.

“i couldn’t even if i wanted to.” her tone was full of forced sarcasm, making herself sound as if she cared a lot less than she actually did. for a moment, she was thankful that she was the telepath between them. he could read her, guess what she was thinking, but he couldn’t be certain and there was some sort of comfort in that. she didn’t want anyone in her mind, it was too screwed up for even her to understand. 

she may or may not know that, but vance has every ability to keep her out of his mind should he make the decision that he doesn’t want her there. with his powers, he can scramble his brain waves and make it hard for any telepath to get a clear reading on him. if any. but he’s never felt the need to do that with betsy. he feels she needs to be able to trust him and to do that, sometimes she needs to know that the words he speaks are mirrored by what’s going on in his head. 

a smile eases it’s wat onto his face when she says she couldn’t not care about him even if she wanted to. he’s quite glad that she doesn’t want to. because he’s very happy that he’s got her around. even if things aren’t always easy between them, he knows he can rely upon her. he knows that his feelings for her aren’t wasted. they are reciprocated, even if neither of them really knows what their feelings are or where the hell they even came from.
