I haven’t posted on Tumblr in ages but this felt worthwhile. I just launched my new Patreon page to help fund making more tabletop games and roleplaying games. I have been pretty silent on tumblr lately, I keep my work primarily on instagram these days, but this was too big a deal to me to not post across all the socials.

I wrote a book called Critical: A New Player Guide Book and Personal Love Letter to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Its 60 pages of illustrations, guidance, resources, and even a playable campaign module for three to six level 1-3 players.

I drew up my D&D squad. clockwise from the far left we have:

Craigor - high elf wizard who’s surprisingly adept with a morningstar.

Adoven - a drow eldritch knight who’s slashin fools with a greatsword.

Faine- a half-orc awol soldier (me) who carries in a baby carrier:

Lyle Greenbottom - a halfling rogue whos a fuckin prankster.

Hailis - a human warlock, casting eldritch blast per usual, and his familiar:

Wolf - a wolf we found in a cave that is Hailis’ homie now.

Vickle - a drow ranger with a drinking problem.

The former was the first use of the photograph that ended up on the final product. I liked the horizontal stripes from the house siding, but the image wasn’t the right size to fit a cd case. I tried using photoshop’s content aware fill, which led to some kinda wild blur stuff on the sides, and I love the border, another shot of Amanda’s garden that would accentuate the greens and blues of the image while also making the ice section seem brighter.

the latter was the introduction of literal “tiny dots” to the packaging design. Each color was grabbed from within the photograph, though the photo itself seems mostly desaturated. I would go on to use this motif in the final product with other photographs. Also, this image was just taken on my phone and edited with Priime, and I made the flower from crepe paper. I made a tutorial for these paper flowers on my blog earlier this year, if you so desire to make some.

This particular frozen flower worked its way into the packaging in other forms, but I didn’t end up using this photo, or the white border aesthetic, in the package. Love the kind of frosted glass behind the ice though to continue that frozen imagery and texture.

before the film is released online, we partnered with a few promoters across the country for advanced screenings of Tiny Dots. I had to design this admat before the packaging was finished, so there are a couple inconsistencies, but for the most part things worked out. This poster also helped inform the packaging when it was built on a DVD case aspect ratio, as opposed to the cd-case ratio it was initially set up for.

this is the initial teaser trailer for the dvd that I made. I edited footage together for about 30 seconds, then projected that footage on my living room wall and filmed that with a gopro, then re-edited it to suit. Having a person walking in front to show the projection would mirror live performances the band has done the last year or so with slide projectors pointed at the stage. Ultimately, the trailer was cut down to 15 seconds for Instagram, but here is the whole thing.
