I've been obsessing over the helmets from the original Top Gun movie ever since I first watched it and I've noticed that Ice and Slider are the only pilot and RIO duo who have the exact same helmet design.
Every other pilot and RIO helmets are different to each other, some more obvious than others.
Merlin and Cougar's helmets were obviously designed different as Merlin's helmet has moons on it while Cougar's has eyes.
Sometimes they're different based on where they designed the callsign to be, like with Maverick and Goose's helmet. 'Maverick' goes all the way around while 'Goose' is just stuck in a little section and Goose's also has their squadron number on it unlike Maverick's.
Hollywood and Wolfman's helmets do the same as 'Hollywood' is written in red over the stars while 'Wolfman' is under the stars in white.
Ice and Slider on the other hand have none of this. They're helmets are designed exactly the same. Their callsigns are in the same place and written in the same colour. The only decoration they both have is the lightning bolt and squadron patch and even the base colour on their helmets is the same which is different from any other pilot and RIO, (apart from Cougar and Merlin)
Maybe the reason is that Ice and Slider were that good at The Academy that they decided to never separate them so they made their helmets the exact same as they knew they'd never have to change them or maybe it's to show how close they are and that they're inseparable and have been for a long time.
I don't really know but I've recognised this since I first watched Top Gun and it just interests me as surely there's got to be a reason as to why they're the only pilot and RIO duo to have exactly the same helmet design.
