Daeron ll or Daeron (fourteen flames) Targaryen was the only child of Daeron the young dragon between him and his wife Melina Martell, Daeron was born one day before his fathers death and was the youngest king to ever be crowned at one day old.
While in his fathers death was blamed on his wife with many nobles calling for her head, Viserys Targaryen quickly silenced them and because the boy was still young his uncle baelor the blessed ruled as regent until his own death by starvation 10 years later.
Melina Martell then pushed to have her son like his father fully assume the crowns responsibilities despite the child showing concerning signs of mental illness. Viserys having learned halted Melina's advances to put his nephew on the throne until he was older and took up the Crown himself.
During viserys rule it became very obvious that Daeron was showing signs of mental illness, he had random episodes of panic attacks for unknown reasons, claimed that he was made of fire and people shouldn't touch him because he burn them. Many lords called the boy unfit for the throne and suggested viserys line should hold the throne and the boy should advocate it.
It's wasn't known if viserys would have agreed to their proposal because viserys died a year later. Now with viserys dead many attempts were made to put his son Aegon on the throne but with the dance still in living memory many more pushed for the line of succession to be honored and thus Daeron at age 11 fully took over the crowns responsibilities becoming Daeron ll Targaryen.
Unlike many Targaryens Daeron refused to be blessed by the seven oils and the faith outright and claimed he was a dragon of valyria saying the only blessings he needed was of the fourteen. Daeron was a religious follower of the fourteen religion and the had followed the old traditions of valyria closely, wearing clothes that were of the freehold style and jewelry. And having a new valyrian steel crown forged, He even went as far as to have a temple of the fourteen built in the red keep, much to the dismay of the high Septon of the seven calling the king a heretic.
Unlike his father who was a great warrior and had a amazing tactical mind for warfare, Daeron ll was less concerned of the military matters and conquest focusing more on his religious practices and trying to find a way to bring back the dragons. Even with his mother near his ear the boy refused to listen to her or anyone council including his aunts baela and rhaena who tried to teach him of the family past mistakes. He listened not.
Daeron rule is known as a troubled time for he publicly denounce the seven which would later cause another faith upraising not scene since king maegor time two years later into his reign.
