By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.
We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.
Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.
Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!

Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".
You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.
it sucks that the overwhelming majority of medical messaging around salt/sodium is "evil poisonous substance that you're definitely already eating way too much of," because like. you do still need it. (trust me, as a POTS-haver, I've had to completely rewire my own brain about salt.) and you need more salt when the entire northern hemisphere is hot enough to fry an egg on. ever tried sucking down the recommended 64oz of hydration per day entirely as water, only to find you're peeing constantly without any of the purported benefits of being "hydrated"? assuming you don't have another medical condition that causes frequent urination, your body probably needed more salt/electrolytes to be able to hold onto that water and make use of it. if there was ever a time to keep a sports drink/pedialyte/etc within constant reach, it's when the heat index is 110°F/43°C.

IMO, blurring the lines between “I’m defending them because they’re right” and “I’m defending them because you’re taking this too far” is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracy–even in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic.
Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and it’s also extremely dangerous. Mobs don’t think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they can’t be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isn’t someone defending the ~problematic party~ It’s time we re-learn that.
I know this is a humorous exaggeration designed to show how silly it is to deny medication and mobility/quality of life aids to disabled people by applying the argument to something silly in a way that nobody would ever do but... unfortunately I have heard people say this. I've heard people suggest that people with minor sight problems shouldn't get glasses, and people needing to move to a stronger prescription should do it and should stay on as light a prescription as they can use and still function, because the glasses will "weaken their eyes" and make their eyesight worse (which is bullshit). People will pull this ableist bullshit on glasses wearers, too.

And I don't just mean "oh, my little work mistake is actually nothing compared to a fiery crash that kills people," either. The reason commercial flight is so many orders of magnitude safer than any other form of transportation is because after every accident and incident, an independent regulatory body investigated it with the express goal of figuring out exactly what happened, why, and how to prevent the same thing from ever happening again—not to root out which person deserved the blame or the liability.
It's a simple, shockingly effective idea. It's also worlds away from how most people approach their own mistakes and the mistakes of others.
Because it’s never just one person’s fault. And even when it is, it still isn’t.
The sharpest, best-trained pilots make worse decisions when they're tired or sick or stressed out, so there's two of them. The most dedicated and experienced air traffic controllers garble an instruction over the radio sometimes, so pilots are trained to always repeat clearances back to catch misunderstandings quickly. The best and brightest maintenance mechanic still overlooks a screw or misconnects a wire once or twice in her career, so aircraft systems are built with two or three or four layers of redundancy, and pilots are exhaustively trained to deal with failures safely.
Everyone eventually has a bad day. Every component breaks down. Every computer gets a bad a Windows update and spirals into a reboot doom loop. If it’s possible for one person’s mistake to domino into a mushroom cloud of a fuckup, then that task is too critical to be one person's sole responsibility. The accident sequence starts with the design of the system—so how do you improve the system to keep it from happening again?

this week's warm up/wind down sketch was inspired by @feroluce's character analysis of boothill & his past self. oh boothill... my beautiful and tragic man. i'm so glad there are still others who are plagued by thoughts of you and share their lovely (heartbreaking) interpretations of your character. it's so awesomesauce... i imagine boothill would look at his past self with envy. the version of himself who was so blissfully unaware of the cruelty he had yet to experience. and young boothill of the past (probably around 20 in this picture me thinks) would look to his future self in horror, hardly recognizing himself in the man made of steel. sure, by this point, he has likely seen and caused death. but even this version of himself wouldn't be able to fathom throwing everything away to hunt down one man.
but to be fair... the "food 'n drink, family 'n friends" he speaks of in the 2.6 scene were all torn away from him against his will. there was nothing left for him to deliberately "throw away". all that remained was himself.

You are aware that a fictional character is just a rhetorical construct designed to fulfill a narrative/thematic purpose right? That their actions are written by an author who wants to use them to explore complex ideas and moral gray areas within the safe confines of fiction right? That they aren't a real person who has killed real people right?
The thing about the "trans women are capable of harm" type posts and blogs like transmascvoicesproject is that on a daily basis trans women are told that we are predators, that we are violent, that we have the rape organ, that we solely exist for fetishistic reasons and that makes us dangerous to be around. Society never lets us forget this. Cinema never lets us forget this. Terfs never let us forget this. Political parties on either side of the spectrum never let us forget this. These people post like they live in a world where trans women/transfeminine people are shielded from the consequences of our actions by our identities, but that's a fantasy. We are not only held accountable for our actions, but responses to our mistakes and transgressions are often extremely worse than that of other people. Not to mention, a lot of trans women are lied about, marked rapist/pedophile/abusive by an abusive, transphobic ex, and then isolated and removed from friends groups for the crime of coming out as trans. This is so, so, so common.
We do not need you to remind us we are capable of harm, trust me when I say we fucking know.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Aventurine - Waveflair until I saw his animations (spoiler alert: my opinions are positive)
(Mostly Vague) Discussion of ver4.5 Leaks Under Cut
(This post is more about Aventurine's general characterization than an in-depth analysis of the animation leaks themselves)
My number one takeaway is that Aventurine - Waveflair's existence is not 100% pure fanservice, and does provide genuinely compelling characterization that lines up with what we already knew about him and/or what was strongly implied.
On the surface (and if we're looking at only the splash art), it seems like Aventurine is genuinely relaxed and having a good time here. However, the animations (at least to me) read as an advertisement, or to put it in more general terms: A Performance. It has all the aesthetics of a carefree summer vacation, but none of it comes across as genuine.
Aventurine is someone who constantly hides behind a persona; it was a means of survival for so long that, even if external circumstances allowed him to let the mask slip, he couldn't bring himself to (honestly, I highly doubt he even knows what an authentic version of himself is, and that would scare him even further away from letting go of the carefully crafted image that he lets others see). He portrays himself as vain and self-obsessed: likeable enough to thrive in the business world, but enough of a jerk that no one gets close enough to see through his bullshit.
Waveflair seems (at least in part) like he's trying to cover for what happened on Penacony (while he did plan for pretty much everything to happen the way it did, that doesn't mean he didn't get hurt). The public and most of the IPC know that he got hurt, and now he's downplaying it by "going on vacation" and making it a public spectacle (paparazzi and tabloids included) to get rid of any and all concern surrounding his physical and/or mental health.
Has he actually processed what happened? Almost certainly not. It can't be good for him to be constantly surrounded by the media at a time like this. But that's what Aventurine does; he forces himself into the public eye as a means of pretending everything is fine, even though doing so is actively hurting him in the long-term. And, to make it even more heartbreaking, I don't doubt he knows he's hurting himself and is leaning into it intentionally.
TL;DR: Waveflair is not Aventurine going on vacation and having a genuinely good, fun time; it's a publicity stunt. He's leaning into his most unhealthy coping mechanisms, actively comodifying himself because that's all he thinks he deserves.
(of course, I may be entirely wrong about this, but it's fun to think about things and theorize, even if I end up being wrong)
