Photo: A picture of my hand that I stamp with a different stamp each time I work in the CSSP Library. Oh, and also a book on abnormal psychology I was covering.
If there’s one section I enjoyed the most, it’s the Social Science Section. Yes, we do the same stuff everyday: covering books, manning the reserve section, etc., but every book is different, every user different, and their needs aren’t the same too. There’s also the feeling of achievement when I help people out and get their requested books in less than a minute. Sometimes I even have to go to the CSSP stacks to get their book and I find that I love doing it (even if the stacks creeps me out).
The CSSP staff are one of the coolest staff I’ve met. Sure, some of them are still what I call the ‘traditional, boring librarians,’ but most of them are pretty cool. My first days were bearable because Maam Cora from the SLIS lib was there to help, and there were a couple of familiar faces too. Sir Emar from the Indexing section also spends some time working at the CSSP library, as well as Kuya Tony from the Cataloging section. Sir Rhoel is always busy and minding his own business, but he’s very approachable when you need him. Ate Jen, although we never talk that much, is very approachable too, and I feel comfortable talking to her because she’s the youngest librarian in the section. I also got quite close with Kuya Jonjon, which I spent a few hours chatting with (he taught me where the main lights are in the stacks). Although we never talk much, I’ve talked with Maam Gladys a few times too. Especially because she likes to order me around to do stuff for her (which I gladly do, of course). She made me find the book cards and attach them back to the returned books, had me transfer two rows of books to a book cart, and made me add new shelflists (I couldn’t count them but they were around 2.5” thick). Again, I felt that I was doing something worthwhile and that I’m helping a lot of people with all that hard work (Maam included because she was having a hard time with her pregnancy). I’m not quite sure about why she prefers to order me around instead of Kevin though, who in my opinion, is more capable of hauling dozens of books than I do.
If I have to work in the Main Library again, I will choose to stay in the CSSP section forever. I believe that being a reference librarian is my thing lol. I guess it showed in the 22 hours I spent in this section. I was having fun I didn’t realize I had gone over my 20-hours requirement.
