Admiral and her coffee
I've written about Naruto being Sasuke's weakness [here], [here], and [here]. People see Sasuke speak about his feelings for Naruto in a flowery manner in 698 and 699 and then pretend that their relationship is primarily "tell" while ignoring the showing that Kishimoto did prior to his reveal. So this is one in a series of collages I'll be making where I compare Sasuke's monologues with his actions in the earlier manga.
As early as Chapter 27, Naruto was specifically and deliberately used as bait in battle to lure Sasuke to his "death." There were several ways Kishimoto could have taken Sasuke out of commission so that Naruto, as the protagonist, could have his one-on-one confrontation with Haku. Yet, he chose to emphasize Sasuke's protectiveness and build on the theme of Naruto being Sasuke's weakness, which was shown as early as Chapter 3 (i.e. Sasuke defending Naruto even though Naruto antagonized him & empathizing with his loneliness).
In chapter 46, Sasuke was in the midst of battle when he noticed Naruto was in trouble and paused to help him. Kishimoto specifically used that moment to highlight Sasuke being in a vulnerable position which the enemy then took advantage of. Why did helping Naruto specifically have to be the moment when the enemy was able to find an opening to attack Sasuke? Kishimoto has no problem establishing Sasuke being out of his depth when it comes to an enemy. After all, he did so in the Land of Waves arc. Better yet, why was Naruto the Team 7 member that was chosen to place Sasuke in a vulnerable position to begin with?
And the answer is, again, because Kishimoto wanted to build on the theme of Naruto being Sasuke's weakness. To do so, he needed to create instances that clearly distinguished Sasuke's treatment of and reactions toward Naruto as special, which is precisely why the arc ended with not one, but TWO seperate people (who served as Kishimoto's mouthpieces) observing Team 7 and coming to the conclusion that it was Naruto who was removing Sasuke's darkness.
During Naruto and Sasuke's long-awaited reunion, in Chapter 309, Sasuke dispelled Kurama's chakra, but before Kurama fully disappeared, he warned Sasuke that he would regret killing Naruto... a moment followed by a close-up of the sharingan of love that Sasuke transformed for Naruto. Next, we were shown several panels of Sasuke staring at Naruto.
Now, the first panel of Sasuke staring at Naruto deliberately depicted Naruto and Sai positioned in similarly vulnerable ways while Sasuke stood tall, lordimg over the both of them. The framing screamed at the reader that both Naruto and Sai were equally viable options to look at. After all, it was Sai who was able to deflect Sasuke's sword while Naruto stood still. Naruto was passive all throughout their encounter. And yet, it was Naruto who Sasuke chose to stare at while engaged in battle with Yamato. Again, Sasuke was depicted staring at Naruto for multiple panels. Not once did he think to survey the other foes surrounding him, people who were much more active in their battle against him (both Yamato and Sakura attempted to launch attacks against him). He simply chose to stare at Naruto. And that was Kishimoto chose to depict as Sasuke's downfall. Suddenly, Yamato had an opening to attack Sasuke.
Now once may be happenstance. Twice a coincidence. But three times is a deliberate pattern. And it's a pattern that Kishimoto continued to develop by showing the reading how Sasuke uniquely reacted to Naruto instead of telling us.
Sasuke and Naruto both stared at each other across Chapters 484 and 485. Naruto didn't pose a threat at the moment given that he was distant from Sasuke and holding Sakura. It would have been the perfect time for Sasuke to look back at Kakashi, who he had physically engaged with earlier in the chapter, and yet he didn't. And yet again, it was his downfall. It was through simply staring at Naruto that Sasuke's opponent was able to get the upper hand and catch him off-guard.
And this is just a partial list of moments where Naruto was singled out as Sasuke's weakness in battle. I didn't discuss every moment of Naruto being Sasuke's weakness (like Sasuke staring so hard at Naruto's name in Chapter 374 that Suigetsu had to repeat his question) or even every moment that Naruto was shown to be Sasuke's weakness in battle (like Sasuke's sharingan weakening because he felt pain in 698).
That is why it is no suprise that in Chapter 698, Sasuke stated he stared at Naruto continously, this continuous staring was narratively linked with Sasuke's weakness, and Sasuke had to train to attempt to get rid of this weakness. Everything adds up.
More than once, Sasuke specifically stated that it was important to stay on guard during the war arc. Sasuke is someone who takes his battles very seriously and believes in focusing even when the enemy may not actively be in sight. So it's significant that Naruto was specifically singled out as Sasuke's undoing several times.
I personally think we should give George Russell 25 points every time Kimi exceeds track limits

Teikoku Shounen, aka Imperial Boy
A somewhat elusive artist, known for their sprawling, layered cityscapes, both of the more industrial/cyberpunk variety and a more eco-friendly type of city full of greenery.
There’s very little information available on them in English: All that I know for sure is that they’re listed as a background artist for the film Tekkon Kinkreet.

Why are they so CUUUUUUUUTE
Is it weird that the other day i read a comment about Naruto using his clones to go down on sasuke and my first thought was:
DAMN can you imagine how hot would it be if Acantha wrote something like that?
Have you ever thought about writing something like that? And yes your smut scenes have left that much of an impesion on me and im always looking forward to them. 😏
I was watching something about the gothic literature trope about maidens being married to darkness, and, ngl (because I get a bit sick of the idea that women are often not given the agency to say hey I like sex or maybe I'm kind of into this and it isn't shameful). Anyway I thought huh, maybe for Kinktober that would be a good short story NaruSasu demon x gothic maiden trope but you know, he's all for it. And demonic clones going down on him because you know, THAT'S a sin.
I'm sorry, but it's so obvious that the same person is writing those messages. They need to relax. This is fanfiction. Don't like it, don't read it.
It’s always Sasuke who is portrayed as the one who makes mistakes with Naruto and has to redeem himself to prove he’s worthy of Naruto. It’s always Sasuke who has to reflect, admit his faults, and apologize. It’s always Sasuke who has to reach out, chase after Naruto, and make the effort to repair their bond.
It’s always Sasuke who gets lectured by others about how great Naruto is, how much Naruto suffered, and how much Naruto sacrificed.
It’s always Sasuke who is expected to make the first move and prove his love for Naruto, while Naruto’s efforts are often things we’re only told about off-screen rather than shown.
It’s always Sasuke who is framed as the one who loves Naruto more, who is more attached, and who is more obsessed with their bond.
It’s never Naruto being held accountable for mistakes he makes in their relationship or being the one who has to reflect and change. The responsibility for fixing their relationship always seems to fall on Sasuke.
This rant isn’t mine, I only copied and pasted it because I wanted you to see the kind of crazy things some people are saying.
I genuinely love your fics so much. The way you write is amazing, it’s painful, emotional, and completely addictive in the best way possible. I always find myself wanting to read more because you know how to capture the characters’ struggles and emotions so well.
I especially love your portrayal of Sasuke. You don’t try to make him perfect or erase his flaws, you write him as a complex, broken, and imperfect human being. That’s what makes him feel real, and it’s exactly why he has been my favorite character for so long. Characters don’t have to be flawless to be loved...sometimes their mistakes, pain, and growth are what make them the most interesting and that's why i love reading your characters sm.
Please don’t let the negativity from some people discourage you, if someone wants a story written a certain way, they can fuck off and create it themselves instead of attacking someone else’s work.
Keep writing the stories you want to tell. There are people who truly appreciate your work, your creativity, and the emotions you put into every chapter. Your fics are so loved, and I hope you continue sharing them with us💕🙏🫂
Thank you so much for this message—and for the kindness of sending it. I really do appreciate it, especially given the context.
I suspect, from the writing style and the recurring phrasing, that the "rant" you've copied is not actually from multiple people but from one person who has been sending variations of the same argument for some time now. The "it's always Sasuke" refrain, the claim that Naruto is never held accountable, the insistence that the story only ever shows Sasuke in the wrong—it's a single, persistent voice that keeps returning, not a chorus. And I think it's worth naming that, because it's easy for an author to feel like they're being besieged from all sides when it's really just one very motivated person with too much time on their hands.
As for the substance of the rant: the claim that "it's always Sasuke" and "never Naruto" is simply untrue, both within A Lapse in Judgement and across my body of work. His flaws are present in the text, dramatised rather than moralised, and the fact that some readers don't see them because they're not delivered with a neon sign is a reading issue.
And the rant is, once again, based on a tiny sample of my work. I've written twenty-one stories. The person sending this rant has either not read those stories, or has chosen to ignore them because they don't fit the "bias" accusation they've decided to make. Either way, their argument collapses because it’s selective.
Your point about Sasuke is right. Characters don't have to be flawless to be loved. Their mistakes, their pain, the slow, difficult growth—makes them feel real. I write Sasuke as a complex, broken, imperfect human being because that's what he is, in canon and in my head. It’s also of your own free will that you continue to read the works where I express him as such. The idea that portraying him that way is a betrayal of his character is bizarre to me. I just don’t want to flatten him into something less interesting.
Thank you again for this. Messages like yours make the whole endeavour worthwhile. 💜🫂 please have a faboulous gif of James!

Honestly, these anons aren't wrong. Your bias is showing from a mile away. Naruto is always written as this saint who can do no wrong, who's endlessly selfless and apparently loves Sasuke more than anything, but most of that love is just... happened off-screen??. We're constantly told he cares and loves sasuke so much, but we rarely get to actually see it
Meanwhile, Sasuke is always the one hurting Naruto, the one who has to change, take accountability, chase after him, prove his love, and basically do all the emotional work. Naruto never has to meet him halfway because the explanation is always that he already did years ago, or he's traumatized, or he's tired from chasing Sasuke for so long. But once again, that's all stuff we're just expected to accept without actually seeing it
I don't know if you're aware of it, but this is genuinely the impression a lot of Sasuke fans get from your writing in the lapse of judgment and the arrangement fics
I do wonder why you keep coming back to write these messages and you reference two of my works when I have a portfolio let me check, twenty-one.
Did you read Between Shadows which is half a million words of where I made it very clear Naruto infringed on Sasuke’s autonomy and Naruto chased Sasuke across the solar system? Have you read some of my WIPs where Sasuke and Naruto’s relationship is examined through different lenses? Have you read From Ember and Ash where Naruto is desperate to keep Sasuke until realising the way he’s taunted Sasuke had lead him into a desperate spiral so he’ll keep Naruto close to him at all cost? Have you read All my unmarked places where Naruto chases after Sasuke several times, or Say My Name where he’s so obsessed with Sasuke he’s willing to runaway with them to Earth? Or Muse where Naruto chases Sasuke? Or Fish Bird where Naruto chases Sasuke AGAIN. Are you even faintly aware of the canon material where Sasuke says he wants to make up for some of the things he did?
It reads like a no. And it sounds like you're projecting some personal issues onto me rather than just moving on. Because as I've said before, and I'll say again: I care very little about this opinion. It's my work. You're free not to read it.
What I cannot fathom is why you keep writing these rather stupid messages instead of, I don't know, having a life and reading something else. Tell me, anon: do you genuinely think I'm going to change the story because you keep sending me these sad and pathetic asks? Because the stats on A Lapse in Judgement and The Arrangement indicate you're in the vast, vocal minority. You're not a "Sasuke fan" at all. You're just someone with apparently too much time on their hands who wants to send unpleasant messages to people who provide fandom works for free. You don't even have the courage to do it from your own account.
The impression people have of you, is that you’re immature and need to move on. You’re coming across as obsessed with sending me these messages, and I’m afraid I will just delete other messages that reach my inbox of this ilk, because frankly, they’re boring and this conversation is boring.
✌️ tiny phone person, get therapy.
