wrote a message about this earlier but what does everyone think about longer in class problem solving discussions for math?
the current dynamics of the correction for ai use in homework has been to make things much harder, but this has the reverse effect. the problem in math is students are not confident with their proofs, and their work in general. taken with how little time students have these days to ruminate on specific problems or concepts (bombarded with assignments, distractions, the world almost ending), i think a directed focus block per week would increase outcomes by a lot.
had this idea bc my econ prof did it with us today. really made everyone focus on the data in the report, had questions written up about models that we needed to consider. for like an hour and half. no distractions, no ai.
to add i think it would be good to have focus sessions specifically, rather than problem set solving sessions, where students who feel comfortable with problems can mess around with more complex ideas within the course, read articles and expand their knowledge during that time.
